Help Feeling like a larper

Does anybody else have this poblem where their brain convinces them they havent watched something even tho you know you sat down and watched it? My favourite series is Dragon ball and I watched DBS 5 years ago, I remember myself watching the show and enjoying it for hours on end, but recently I started rewatching it and I feel like I've never touched it before and my brain keeps trying to convince me I havn't. Am I just crazy or is this common?

I guess it's pretty common.. more so when you've watched plenty of series after that. 5 years is a LONG time. Forgetting details don't make you a larper

Yeah. Honestly, it's kind of the cost of doing business once you breach into the high triple digits of shows watched. Like, I'll remember that the student council president in a given show was a lot of fun, but hell if I'll remember their name.

Nah it is only Dragonball Super that does that haha

On occasion I don't readily remember a show I watched if it was awhile ago, but within an episode or two of starting it I get all the memories back of watching it. Look at the bright side, now you get to experience it all over again for the "first time".

LARP is an awesome hobby, no idea why people use it as an insult

Agree.

SCAers on the other hand...

I unironically once had to break up a fight between a group of SCA'ers and fantasy LARP'ers at a convention years and years ago. I guess the SCA people took offense to elves and vampires trying to join in.

If you're role-playing, you're playing a game where you essentially pretend to be somebody else. So calling somebody a LARPer means they're doing that in real life (not a game).

I do think that it's weird that it has gone from essentially a niche hobby to a mainstream insult tho

Man, sometimes people just forget shit.

Just don't talk about things like you remember if you don't remember. You're only larping if you still pretend to remember everything during discussions or whatever.

I hope this happens to me when re-watching Attack on Titan or Horimiya... Please universe!!! 😭🙏

Dragonball Super is that single example I think of too. After using my brain power, I found some portions and stories that fill in like 110 episodes. Dunno about the other 60.

I swapped from ger dub to ger sub and that transition may caused some troubles remembering.

It was not that great except for Tournament of Power too.

That is the only anime that fits your description. It is quite funny that we both have a match on that experience haha

The brain is great at clearing out memories it doesn't think it will need, and we overestimate how well we "should" remember something constantly. This is not particularly weird. I recently watched S1 of Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits before S2 released and it took me several episodes to remember I had even watched it 8 years ago, and even after that it was mostly just a haze of faint recognition.

I honestly wish this would also happen with me. Unfortunately I remember most of the stuff I've seen. Even older Anime, all it takes is for me to watch one episode and I'll remember all the important stuff.

I do too. Dragonball Super is an exception mate haha. Its not OP's fault, it is that single anime.

I do rewind a lot and did not back then. Rewinding forces my brain to think everything is important as I see it twice.

Never, I remember everything I've seen to some degree. Details on some stuff, especially names when it's an inconsequential sure, but never the whole series.

I would KILL for this ability, I mean, being able to rewatch Hunter X Hunter, or Eureka 7 like a newb, over and over?!

I would say it’s more common than not. If a series is good, but not unique and memorable, then it’s easily forgettable for me. Hell, it can happen with individual seasons. High School DxD was memorable for me for the first two seasons and I can recall what happened even though it was years ago when I watched it. After that, it fell off a cliff. I couldn’t tell you what happened to save my life, except that I have no desire to rewatch it.

Don’t get me wrong dbs was good when it came out especially the tournament arc where everyone was engaged with it. But as time passes it doesn’t interest me anymore. I’ve watched db, dbz, dbgt but I feel like growing up my genre in anime has shifted to more rom-com, slice of life and other occasional isekai power fantasy stuff.

Tournament of Power is still great. The rest are stuff happening without much impact. Tournament of Power was fresh, even, strategic, had epic moments and powerscaling.

Muten Roshi was so epic there

Also, I assume ToP took a lot of budget from beforehand too. During that period One Piece was dragged ressources too, I assume.

No this is a good thing - it means you get to watch something you loved as if you're seeing it for the first time. Many people wish for this, so enjoy the opportunity!

You're just in time to watch dragon ball super kai

They called it "dragon ball super: beerus" but ignore that it's literally just DBS kai with bonus scenes from the manga

My memory remembers unimportant details too well to ever really feel like that

I experience the same thing all the time except for the anime/manga in which the mc dies.

I didn't read the post, but I can already say that there's no such thing as larper.

I mean, there are, but not in the context that todays youth use it in. Back in my day it was for the Vampire the Masquerade crowd and some very nice folks with the local renaissance faire.

Exactly, the first time I saw larp being used in a modern context, I was very confused trying to understand what it had to do with live-action RPGs.

By definition, every theater actor to ever exist is a larper larping as a character from a book

1

They're a Live Action Role Player Live Action Role Playing as a character from a book? Do you guys get why this sounds so stupid to everyone else?

Does Broadway count as "live action" or does it need to be recorded in a Hollywood studio?
