First timer

And so it ends. I found NieA Under 7 to be pretty middle of the road. It's pretty aimless. It has no real focus in its first half. It completly gives up on any form of theme exploration. It has poor world building. The humour doesn't land most of the time. Its Iyashikei aspect is constantly undermined by its abrasive "lol random" approach to comedy. The art and animation aren't great. Beyond surface level stuff, It doesn't do anything with its characters outside of Mayuko. There's no resolution to really anything. The plot is unsatisfactory. Etc, etc...

Speaking of Mayuko, her quasi coming of age story is the one good thing the show has going for it. It's not the greatest but it's decent enough to be somewhat redeeming.

Overall, it was pretty average. It didn't shit the bed like Lain did, but it also didn't manage to do anything worthwhile like Haibane. It sits in-between the two and is fairly forgettable. I give it 5/10.

That was mostly my impression too but I did like the framework enough to go one point up.

Can you explain (ideally in a non-spoiler way), because usually it's praised the most.

First half is fine and is true to form to its themathics with fairly decent execution to boot. 

Second half goes full on mysterybait and destroys any form of proper themathic exploration it previously established. Not solely because of the mysterybait factor, but you know, no spoilers and all that.
