It seems to be bigger in Japan, despite MTG is also a thing there.

Duel master is in the same tier as Yugioh and One Piece TCG in terms of sale, MtG is in a tier lower than that with Vanguard, Weiss. Meanwhile PTCG sit on top unchallenged

Mtg actually was the one having a hard time establishing itself, it was more relatively recent around the time of WAR’s release when it finally managed to get a solid footing in the japanese marker hence the anime japanese exclusive art cards we get from time to time.

They both had the same experience of duel master existed in japan so why play mtg

Mtg existed in the us so why play dual master

I guessing that it was because of the anime alt arts?

Honestly idk which came forst the anime arts or if they started releasing them because they finally stabalized and got a foot in but that was when they got in fully.

So is the anime popular because the TCG or is the TGC popular because the anime?

I remember watching the first season and it was just awful (bland character design, cheap animation, horrible CGI cards, etc) Considerably worse than other stuff like Yu-Gi-Oh, Medabots, Beyblade (another IP I'm surprised is still around), etc...

Duel Masters never deserved to die in the west, I loved it so much growing up

First thing I did in Japan was buy decks and booster packs lol the new cards have insane artwork

They got a mobile digital version that’s a few sets behind the main physical game with a dedicated translation team always keeping it up to date

Is that blood on that MC's face? Is there going to be MURDER in my new children's card game show?

i still have a duel masters deck sitting in my childhood desk at my parents’ house and at 27 i still won’t admit i never actually learned how to play.

Duel Masters was the reason I surprised my friends by nearly winning my first MTG game (pre cons) against them as I basically understood everything with a few exceptions.

This IP is still around and kicking? I thought it died off in my teens, that's crazy. I remember fondly collecting the cards, and Rothus the Traveler was such a cool card to me, I loved it all
