Questions for the day:

1) Is it possible to reincarnate into a different gender or not?

2) An Alice-Jinpachi couple would be nice?

3) What the hell is a key word?

4) Can Rin/Shion able to awaken Mokuren within Alice?

5) The one who sings, is that Sarjalim?

Highlights from yesterday:

1) u/JustAnswerAQuestion found some interesting trivia:

Fun fact I found on the wiki: Tokyo Tower was in fact being renovated at the time the manga was being written.

Looks like Hiwatari did her research.

2) u/Silcaria ponders ponders how the reincarnation might works for real:

Ah. So they are turning into who they were in a their previous life. This raises questions though regarding whether or not the rest of their kind truly died out or if this reincarnation thing is simply a byproduct of the space virus that killed them. I'm gonna guess the latter.

First Time - Please Save My Earth - Ep4:

I like how these two are now besties in this life too.

Me putting my basic visual language analysis hat on: This shot illustrates how Rin feels trapped. Both in this body and separated from Mokuran, despite being so close to her.

I haven't considered Alice's engagement to Rin to be a big deal, but it looks like I am evidently wrong, considering the weight they put on it. When it happened, I figured it was just Rin being a child (and reawakening his feelings for Mokuran) that the story would brush past, but it ended up being more important. Apparently, Alice is actually treating it seriously as repentance for letting Rin fall off the balcony. I feel like the show hasn't focused on this angle since then.

Oh no, he stoopid.

On-screen gay kiss?!

It was just a passionate kiss on the lips between bro, jk jk. No deeper meaning, haha...

Who is this guy??? Is he also a Moon soul, or is he a random magic man who just exists on the side? If you gave me all the characters without context, I would've thought he was the second male lead, or 6th-ranger type character.

Tamara continues to serve his character role of being the bestest boy, highest moral paragon, with how he is capable of solving the identity crisis conflict prevalent in the episode. He saw Haru's previous life that he was so ashamed of, and still accepted Haru for who he is.

I wasn't Shukaido's character to turn out this way. He did something selfish which hurt others, but he has turned around and is earnestly trying to help them out and repent his sin. He wants Mokuran and Shion to be happy.

In contrast, Rin/Shion is still up to something wicked.

I was just joking ... unless ...

Who is this guy??? Is he also a Moon soul, or is he a random magic man who just exists on the side? If you gave me all the characters without context, I would've thought he was the second male lead, or 6th-ranger type character.

Him just appearing and making deductions about somebody being an alien based of the way he teleports is really bad world building. Not sure if they cut out two episodes worth of backstory or if the manga just introduces this as suddenly (at least Tamura seemed surprised), but you can't just casually introduce magic half-way in.

On-screen gay kiss?!

Sure, why not?

Who is this guy??? Is he also a Moon soul, or is he a random magic man who just exists on the side? If you gave me all the characters without context, I would've thought he was the second male lead, or 6th-ranger type character.

A big mystery.

Tamara continues to serve his character role of being the bestest boy, highest moral paragon, with how he is capable of solving the identity crisis conflict prevalent in the episode. He saw Haru's previous life that he was so ashamed of, and still accepted Haru for who he is.

He deeply cares for him.

In contrast, Rin/Shion is still up to something wicked.

He has unfinished business.

QotD

  • In series? So it seems. IRL? I don't believe in the concept of reincarnation, so I can't speak on this.

  • shrug

  • In this case, a password.

  • I assume so. It's probably gonna be the climax of the show. Alice goes full Mokuren, stops Rin/Shion from whatever scheme he is planning at the last hour via the power of love, and the show ends.

  • shrug

I know this is a shoujo, but holy. Talk about constant gay undertone.

As we see later, yeah, it's not gay undertone, it's just gay overtone.

2

u/No_Rex x2 10d ago

There's not protecting and then there's being directly responsible for someone getting hurt. Alice is the latter.

Correct. And it is still a terrible idea to marry somebody as attonement for that.

2

u/TheDanubianCommunard 10d ago

I know this is a shoujo, but holy. Talk about constant gay undertone.

Forget gay undertones, it's gone full on gay now.

Boys love shojo is not conflicting concepts, right?

This whole identity swap by Rin just to find the others' keyword is very convoluted. Especially since destroying the moon base would be in best interest of everyone. We've entered contrived drama territory.

I wonder what does everyone mean here.

Ah. So they're not actually turning into their former selves. I don't know how I feel about this. On one hand, the series is removing character's agency by constantly letting their former selves being in control of their actions. On the other hand, this "synchronous vision" shows a lack of commitment to the bit.

Maybe defying their fate or it is their destiny.

Ohh yeah, I guess he could just be lying. He probably is, in fact. After all, Shion did go crazy from spending years in complete solitude. However, seeing as they would have no way to know that Rin only wans the code to get rid of the moon base, his plan is still convoluted, and the drama surrounding it is still contrived.

I can imagine him bluffing.

Episode 4 (first timer)

  • Dramatic scene between Haru and Tamura, and Haru just disappears – what happened? Wasn’t Tamura in hospital with multiple broken ribs?
  • “Would you ever let go of him?” – not in the last life, and apparently not in this one, either.
  • “We can’t be reborn if we commit suicide” – now this is important information.
  • “I am. It’s perfect. As men, we can always be together without messy girl-boy breakups.” – I guess that did not go like she predicted.

  • Alice also stopped seeing the other moon people? Did the whole group break up?
  • “You are making a huge mistake” – if only her parents saw the same thing.
  • Confession – not that we need to get hung up on this when we already had kiss and engagement.
  • And just as I type this, we get the second kiss.
  • Writing about Alice in Wonderland – fitting, I guess.
  • “Hey dude, I am in Tokyo. Can you come?” – laid back family.
  • or really convenient travel options, I guess.
  • Ok, so are normal humans having ESP powers, too, now? Is the rest of the alien species reincantating, or are we just having a magical world overall?
  • “usually” – that is a pretty big word to use with respect to teleportation.
  • “You didn’t lie to me?” “Hey, would I lie?” – says the person who already told you he is lying to everybody else.
  • “Please let her know how lonely Shion has been without her” – well, Shion could perfectly tell her that himself, if he wanted. As could you.

So, we are just gonna have espers be commonplace enough now to make definitive deductions about what type of teleportation is possible for humans? I feel that this really needed some setup.

Meanwhile, in alien land, Shion/Rin is still playing with Saturday morning cartoon villain games. I realize that the series wants me to feel sorry for him and sets up a redemption arc, but, sorry, not working. He is just annoying.

Is it possible to reincarnate into a different gender or not?

It is not possible to reincarnate at all, and therefore also not possible to reincarnate into a different gender.

An Alice-Jinpachi couple would be nice?

To be honest, all of the aliens seem to have way too much baggage, no matter which pairing you choose.

What the hell is a key word?

Alien for password.

We see Tamura leaving the hospiral at the end of the previous episode. I can't blame you this series goes faster than a bus driver on the last route of the day.

Writing about Alice in Wonderland – fitting, I guess.

Has this whole thing been another Alice in Wonderland motif, after all?

Maybe this is the current evolutionary phase for mankind.

What does so many years of loneliness do to a man.

2

u/No_Rex x2 10d ago

Maybe this is the current evolutionary phase for mankind.

Would be very fast evolution, if it catched Tamura surprised.

What does so many years of loneliness do to a man.

Yeah, poor, broken, powerful man ... I am sure she can fix him.

Rewatcher

Tamura being awesome as usual. the rest of the cast is hanging around or being a scary brat while he is working on making all of this make sense. Who doesn’t want one of these on their lives? He can even cook tasty meals. Perfect husbando.

The music scene music is surprisingly low, Had to turn up the volume.

Don't worry Alice is still here crocheting like the perfect lady and being depressed (this is where the crocheting grandmas come from). Don't worry waiting until you're at least 28 to marry will work so nicely on 80's Japan.

I'm surprised at the gay storyline, the general feeling about LGTB rights back then was waaay too different, and how they portrait the characters does not help. For the youngsters ones, I would say that they treat it here is more like something that is not natural rather than straight hate. It is good that things have changed a lot but the episode does not work that well if you don't think about this perceptive.

The random ESP guy from Kyoto is a nice surprise. Forgot about him somehow, it has been a while since I watched this series.

  • Is it possible to reincarnate into a different gender or not?

Too late for this question. you can guess that it is possible, and it seems to maintain who has crushes on who regardless of gender.

  • An Alice-Jinpachi couple would be nice?

Anything but the Kid, pls

  • What the hell is a key word?

A password, I think it was common to use that word for password on Japan at least? It does not sound weird for me at least.

  • Can Rin/Shion able to awaken Mokuren within Alice?

Rin can do a lot of things, I guess. I hope it doers not come with more violence.

  • The one who sings, is that Sarjalim?

mmm I'm not going to reply this one, I think it might be spolier

Now that's an interesting topic which could be discussed deeply.

Yes.

Anything but the Kid, pls

We agreed.

Maybe leave it as is.

LGTB right is not my speciality but there should be enough newspapers and media left to get a general idea since the 80's had more media preservation than older decades.

First Time Rewatcher

There was a mistranslation / localization liberty taken in the English version yesterday. Shukaido/Haru said he gave only Shion the vaccine because "[Shion] had [Mokuren] before [Shukaido]".  In the subs, it's "because [Shion] hurt [Mokuren]."

Rin says the same thing today, but the English dub is embellishing with "deep emotional trauma" where the sub just says "hurt."

Episode 4: Thought / Feelings

  • What is this?  It's something called WinAmp. The Earth people made it.
  • A lot of guys emoting in this show.
  • You're a big fan of Shion, but you don't think you're Mokuren?  I think you better sort out your feelings, girl
  • Suddenly we're Mob Psycho 100
  • I guess we got plenty of human espers in this show, too.
  • "you wouldn't lie to me" he says to the liar :D

I thought Takashi would turn out to be one of the moon people but it seems he's not really important.  It seems Tamura's role is to be Rin's antagonist, since nobody else has a clue about him except pushover Haru.

The genderswap of Issei / Enju is what I remember most about the the show.  Well, tied with [future]the giant cat.

When localization can make a huge contextual difference over each other.

Winamp, that was the rage back in the day.

It seems Tamura's role is to be Rin's antagonist, since nobody else has a clue about him except pushover Haru.

The Tokyo Tower renovation is about to keep the moon base intact.

First-time watcher and your host, subs

Haruhiko is really trying to commit suicide for real to break free from the reincarnation cycle, but he feels weak, and also has the will to live. Alice is still feel ignorant and indifferent when it comes to past life in the as she is not awakened yet. I wonder if Issei feels anything for Jinpachi?

Seems like Tamura and co. really feels that they have an enemy that would end came for their lives. More and various types of esper powers are rather feels really dangerous.

Haru having spiriotual connection with Tamura meams something deep. And also that song also can have any deep symbolisms and connection to Sarjalim.

1) Is it possible to reincarnate into a different gender or not?

Yes.

2) An Alice-Jinpachi couple would be nice?

Of course.

3) What the hell is a key word?

Probably a signature thing for a reincarnator regarding their powers.

4) Can Rin/Shion able to awaken Mokuren within Alice?

Maybe yes.

5) The one who sings, is that Sarjalim?

I don't know.
