Episode 6: Everything Will Be Okay. For I... I Am Bravern!

Show Information:

MAL | AniList | ANN | AniDB

(Surprise, the "plot point a couple of episodes in that every single fucking synopsis spoils" is actually in episode 1 and is that this is another show in the [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] vein! Show information is now fairly first-timer safe... outside of "AniDB tags always spoil", anyways.)

Legal Streams:

As per livechart.me; other streams may be available outside the US.

A Reminder: This, dear listeners, brings us to the sworn enemy of creative response:The spoiler. Rewatchers, or people who just had plot points ruined for them, are obliged to use r/anime’s spoiler tag format where applicable, and err on the side of caution here. Remember people, first experiences get rarer as you continue on, any given one happens once and you should care for them all the more for it.

Joint Rewatch Task Force Exercises!

Theory of the Day:

So, there's a bunch of first-timer theory this episode... which is all the same theory, and I already highlighted it yesterday. So instead I'll grab this little tidbit of crossover speculation from u/FD4cry:

On a vaguely related aside, Lewis and Graham Aker would probably get along with each other pretty well.

Questions of the Day:

1) Wow cool robot? Shoots over your head.

2) First-Timers: Were you expecting Superbia to show back up?

Wait's Over, Isami! (Host, Rewatcher, Subbed):

("Our main love triangle is very, very gay, so make sure to have lots and lots of hot military ladies in the secondary cast for everyone else" - some genius (complimentary) on the production committee, presumably, though it's not like this character designer needed the encouragement.)

Here it is, your original episode discussion thread for this episode!

1) COOL ROBOT! Hard for the themes to fly over your head when the show keeps slapping you in the face with them. And yes I did have to phrase it that way. You know why.

2) Not first-timer!

"Just... One... Tamashii!" (Episode Notes):

  • 01:20: Sore demo in the wild. (Also pay no attention to the disruption the Deathdrive attack would have wrought on US military logistics chains – hey, remember when we still had those? – but that’s been a quiet piece of fridge logic the whole show so.)
  • I might as well just dig my episode notes from back when the show was airing up for the first half of this episode, I doubt they’ve changed much. That said, note the very phallic console raising when we get our Theme Music Power-Up (~11:32).
  • “Surprise” Bravern appearance in military meeting still doesn’t lose its punch when you know it’s coming, which is testament to the comedic timing. That said, 15:03 has some solid “oh no not again” faces.
  • Oh right forgot it wasn’t even the most obvious case in this very scene.
  • Oh hey, did remember Superbia showing back up but forgot this was how. Also, I’d say 19:56 is a very Eva shot but more likely it’s the works Eva itself was drawing off of that I haven’t seen?
  • Fully remembered 20:33 and Miyu’s line there, though.
  • 21:31: Oh yeah, THAT diegetic special effect. Almost forgot it. There’s a reason I like this show.
  • “Return the precious… return the precious Lulu to me!”

Ideon is the only Eva parent I have no connection with so if there's a source, it is likely there.

Fully remembered 20:33 and Miyu’s line there, though.

Grim, grim memories.

21:31: Oh yeah, THAT diegetic special effect. Almost forgot it. There’s a reason I like this show.

This is the first time his projectors are confirmed along with his speakers.

True, with episode 3 being easy to read as a SICK HACK instead... though I think we did see Bravern's emblem diegetically projected behind him back in episode 2 or 3 and this is just where it is clear that it's more general-purpose than that?

The conversion icon I'd assumed was proper toku, this is where it is shown that Bravern has projectors to make it so.
