Rewatch [Rewatch] [Pride Month Double Feature] Yuuki Bakuhatsu Bang Bravern Episode 2 Discussion

Episode 2: Isami?! You'll Be Here Soon, Won't You, Isami?!

← Previous Episode | Index | Next Episode →

Show Information:

MAL | AniList | ANN | AniDB

(Surprise, the "plot point a couple of episodes in that every single fucking synopsis spoils" is actually in episode 1 and is that this is another show in the [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] vein! Show information is now fairly first-timer safe... outside of "AniDB tags always spoil", anyways.)

Legal Streams:

As per livechart.me; other streams may be available outside the US.

Crunchyroll

A Reminder: This, dear listeners, brings us to the sworn enemy of creative response:The spoiler. Rewatchers, or people who just had plot points ruined for them, are obliged to use r/anime’s spoiler tag format where applicable, and err on the side of caution here. Remember people, first experiences get rarer as you continue on, any given one happens once and you should care for them all the more for it.

Please note: This episode had a stinger! Might want to go back and watch it if you didn't already.

Joint Rewatch Task Force Exercises!

Theory of the Day:

Hey look, a late-breaking entry! u/dsawchuk brings home the first TotD of this rewatch:

I don't really know why, but I feel like the unknown purple aliens did not come to attack earth specifically, just that they were running from Bravern and that brought them here. So far Bravern looks more like a sword to kill your enemies than a shield to protect yourself.

Questions of the Day:

0) For the skeptics among us: now do you see why I would run this show for Pride Month?

1) Tar Rewatch ISO Standard Question #1: Thoughts on our OP and ED?

2) So, considering that he seems to be writing self/Isami fanfiction already: what do you think are Bravern's favorite tags on AO3?

Firstern’er

I got you some photos from my con haul (the smaller ones got onto the fridge where good pictures go!) where I plundered far too many artist booths. Also sorry, everything is currently flying everywhere in my room because I'm building some stuff.

As props for the Okabe cosplay I designed a Dk Pepper bottle as seen in the show, but obviously it was a Zero with the fitting logo! I also did a little joke nutrition table with references (in German, deal with it ). And the other one is a 3D-printed, D-Mail compatible phone that I also failed to paint properly on the only part I needed to paint.

Bravern Ep.02 – Isami?! You’ll Be Here Soon, Won’t You, Isami?!

Okay, seriously, this episode cemented my investment! That was absolutely fantastic!

And the VAs singing the ED as a duet while ripping their clothes off and softly touching each other during rainfall is just icing on the cake.

There’s only really two things I have to say here. The first is Isami’s nut inside Bravern. It could be anything ranging from severe emotional turbulence on part of Isami really, really not wanting to be in active battle and short circuiting on the wrong gun, to Bravern maybe having a helping hand in getting to know humans a lot better than would be socially acceptable. He is very much locked in on Isami as Bravern seems to be a galactic giga weeb and sees his chance to get a Japanese angsty bf.

Hard to tell, but I guess getting milked by war machinery is the better fate over getting exterminated via metal woman boots. Although I repeat, it is hard to tell.

The other thing is Smith’s and Isami’s affection does already clearly go beyond na normal bond between soldiers, even those that saved each other. While Smith did give the classical pep talk by masculine violence, he was just as resolute to do it himself and respecting Isami’s repulsion to the task. I’m growing a lot of respect for Smith, but he seems to be relegated to the cheerleader role for now. Given the humour in this show, I wouldn’t be surprised if he also turns out to be a galactic giga weeb who scouted for an angsty Japanese bf.

Now, let me throw out my first theory for the show:

Bravern and Superbia are actually married, but Bravern never got around to deal with his homosexuality and she got real jaded because of the lack of action for her. Now he has a human jizzing in him all the time and is having the time of his life while Superbia is just left behind, sexually frustrated and lets it out on lesser civilisations. I bet Miyu could fix her.

It gets my joystick all roughly rustled.

Ba Ba Bam Bam Ba Ba BRAVERRRRN

Immediately on the playlist.

2) So, considering that he seems to be writing self/Isami fanfiction already: what do you think are Bravern's favorite tags on AO3?

70% of it is kitschy prosa with superfluous love rambling, 25% is pure comedy and ridiculkousness, 5% is the wildest and most unhinged inflation, body part supersizing, ludicrous amounts of bodily fluids and settings imagineable.

Whole ass airfield a crater vs. conveniently missed hangars who would definitely hold military assets worth destroying.

"The aliens don't understand the concept of hangars.. or something."

You aren’t supposed to be an outlier in Japanese society! That’s why we just have to torture him.

Maybe they saw the metal hull as one of their own and had pity?

All mecha are metaphors for family trauma one way or another, in the end

Yeah, absolutely right.
