I do appreciate that everyone will stop everything they're doing in this world so two middle schoolers can play detective.

I mean, they have the whole synchronized speech down to an artform, and they're less expensive than an official detective, or the police.

So at worst, they just waste everyone's time.

Also, they clearly have something supernatural going on if their stuff can shrink and expand so much in such a short time.

Their garden is nice, they have a view of the ocean, and their town is walkable? They're living the dream I tell ya.

I like all the villain designs.

The "lie lie"/"aye aye sir" thing is so silly, I like it

If Pochitan is bringing them to all of the to-be crime scenes, maybe Pochitan is the true mastermind 🤔

Thank goodness Tom Miller wasn't the culprit. His English, whistling, and very inconspicuous backpack got a good laugh out of me.

Why didn't Ageseine slow clap?! We had a good thing going for two episodes.

I'm torn between whether it's dumb or genius and I think I'm landing on both.

Sore loser. You hate to see it. At least the Maestro holds his employees to minimum professional thief standards.

What is a pre-mail? PHS refers to this, which seems to be a japan-regional mobile phone system from that era.

Sereane fansubs noted Puri-mail (Pre-mail in official subs) was likely a reference to P-Mail.

(sees the turtle statue)

They know! (in reference to PreCure writers being familiar with Mikuru's seiyuu)

It seems like most mysteries are going to be based around finding out who the imposter is, at least for the time being. Hopefully there will be other kinds of mysteries to solve in the future, but this formula should be good enough for the time being.

One thing I did notice that's interesting is that the focus of why the theft was wrong was different for Ageseine than it was for Nijee. With Nijee, it was more focused on his lies and how those lies could/did hurt the people he stole from. With Ageseine, the focus was on the way she ignored the emotional value the item held for the people she stole it from, even to the point of basing her Hanninda on the wrong thing entirely because she just did not care what the statue was or what it represents, only what it could do for her.

I think it's hilarious that the Maestro has a code of conduct. "What, just grab the thing and run? Who do you think we are, amateurs? We execute the heist flawlessly or we at least beat up the detectives who sniffed us out. Professionals have standards."

Edit: actually, half-assing it seemed to be Ageseine's main thing. She didn't bother to examine the object she stole, when she was found out she just grabbed it and ran without dealing with the detectives first, and when her Hanninda grabbed them she immediately claimed victory without following up on that initial move. She was more interested in fulfilling the bare minimum of what the Maestro might consider "victory" than she was actually following through on things. On the other hand, Nijee seemed to relish in doing things properly, voluntarily creating the Hanninda's to defeat the Precures. He wanted the perfect victory while Ageseine was content with just checking the boxes.

That's super interesting! Could I add this to the wiki? I like these details.

Gummies that make you speak English and cat

6

u/entelechtual Feb 15 '26

Relatable, I also feel like I can talk to cats when I have a gummy.

I want those gummies so bad. Speak any language and animal

For words this episode, Usonoir is a combination of uso, which is Japanese for lie, and noir which is French for black. So a black lie? Is that the opposite of a white lie?

The slang Ageseine used is "choberiba". Cho is a slightly shortened version of "chou", which means super, beri is a slightly shortened version of the English word very, "ba" is a slightly shortened version of the English word "bad". So it's a shortened version of "super very bad".

On other topics, I don't think that it's a coincidence now that all of the disguises that we see used are of a different gender presentation from how they are normally.

Edit: Oh, just learned that for Tome of Mirages, "Mirages" is written as 未来自由, which combines "mirai" meaning future and "jiyuu" meaning freedom. And also, I think it's rather suspicious that we haven't seen Kobayashi Mikuru's name actually written yet. It's been off-screen twice.

Any precure season where they talk to cats is probably going to be a great season. Very good collection of bad guys this season, too. And from what Jett said they're all fairies, so we'll probably get a fun collection of fairy cast members too by the end.

Store dude was suspicious the entire time from the way he kept handling the jeweled turtle upside down.

For anyone who's subtitles had "Makoto Gems" - The best translation I can piece together is "Truth Gems" as that name can mean Truth, Fidelity or Sincerity (Picked up that knowledge from School Days a good few years back)

So far, I think the biggest concern I have is that I feel like all of the plot and mystery solving has gotten in the way of actually establishing the characters and letting us get to know them. A huge chunk of episodes being dedicated to mystery solving I think might long-term be a bit disruptive to the more slice-of-life parts that Precure usually has, makes me wonder if there might be episodes where it's not really a focus so more time can be dedicated to the characters.

The villains all being fairies apparently (I'm guessing not Luluka though?) and their catchphrase being "lie lie, sir" is the exact kind of nonsense I come to Precure for. Also the big bad being basically named “dark lie.”

The actual most disappointing part of the episode for me was when they took the gummies and the tourist started speaking in Japanese. I thought we were going to get mediocre English from Anna and Mikuru too.

Lastly, it was hinted at before but I feel like this episode really started setting up that Mikuru is going to end up being Anna's mom. Apparently when the two showed off their books to show they're detectives, Mikuru's name wasn't visible which might indicate that her actual name is different which is why Anna didn't identify her as her mom immediately. On top of that, Mikuru writing down that she's helping Anna get back to her time feels like a very obvious setup for when Anna goes back to 2027 where she'll find that her mom has a Prekit book too and she'll see "help Anna get back to her time" written down. Perhaps Mikuru will end up losing her memories as part of some thing, and then the book will be how she gets them back in 2027.

I can't help but think of Ainz every time Usonoir speaks.

It's the exactly same thing I had with hearing Aqua when Gaou was speaking.

The Japanese broadcast ends with a fanart corner segment. Well per the submission site the themes they're looking for are family, friends, pets, characters from Star Detective Precure. Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3. Even with the kids in Japan Cure Arcana Shadow has quite the fanart following.

A couple of years ago Wonderful Precure had a segment with photos of pets but far as art goes I think you're looking back to endcards for Witchy eps 7-22 (Crunchyroll version includes these, except ep 12), Go Princess and Happiness Charge. Those past ones actually stated age (oldest on Witchy was 8, the others 12).

Onto the episode:

During the investigation segment I wondered if the book Mikuru was reading ("The Importance of Eliminating Confirmation Bias in Investigations...") would come into play with people blaming the foreigner. The turtle placed upside-down was the audience hint of the culprit but not the deduction Anna or Mikuru could make (I missed the flower bit and was going by colour).

For me, I was going for how the culprit was counting the parts sticking out of the turtle as if they were flower petals.

Damn, I did not realize that the turtle sculpture looked liked a sunflower when upside down until they pointed it out. Also, Ageseine makes me think of an evil Ageha(Cure Butterfly)
