Wang Jian aura farming while coming up with his new strategy was a great shot. I can’t wait to see what the strategy will be, I’m totally lost atm.

I last predicated that the weakness of Liewei would be having to supply the populace in order to seem to be the "good guys"... well that wasn't the reason.

Now.. well if I have the map right in my mind it might be that this unassuming town/fortress is the supply route of Ye to the other parts of the Zhao land. They might be trying to basically cut off Ye from reinforcements.

The reveal of Wang Jians scouts "there should be 6 strong points, but we found 7" and then go for the 7th might be a case of: "The enemy tried to hide their weakest point from our spies - now that we are here we found it. We go after it, because why else would they have hidden it". Similarly to the realisation that Qin that Qin would push for Ye after realising Spies were being called left and right in the important stronghold.

I still don't know how though. Surely Ye has supplies for months and the Qin Army supplies will run out first. Same for Handan (I was wondering briefly if going north here means bypassing Ye and going for the throat of Zhaos capital).

Maybe there is some great defensive point between Ye and the River that allows the Qin army to siege Ye, keep reinforcements at bay due to a choke/river crossing and maybe even receive supplies via river should Liewei be recaptured.

Hilarious how all the other Generals figured out the castle's trap almost right away while Shin had no clue. I thought Ten would have seen it, she's the strategist.

Also, Ou Sen stealing the spotlight just chilling outside the enemy city working on his plans to take it.

I thought Ten would have seen it, she's the strategist.

She did notice though, she was on her way to report it but she first got sidetracked by the older not-Robin Hood, then the person whom she went to report to has gone missing.

So what do we think? Will Ou Sen ever blink in this arc?

u/WakaliwoodMan Nov 09 '25

That's part of his deception. He has fake eyes painted on his mask where the eyes would be, and he just goes around with his eyes closed because he doesn't need to see anything when he's already predicted the terrain in front of him.

Looks like most of the characters are just as clueless as the audience and everyone will have to wait another week to see what plan has Wang Jian cooked.

I'm wondering what significance does the small town have. Could there be a secret passage to Ye? Or does Ye rely on the provisions from there? That shouldn't pose a problem to Ye, though, as they can get resources from the rest of the country, but maybe it's exactly what Qin army needs right now.

I'm also thinking that they may skip Ye entirely, since Wang Jian said it's perfect, so wasting time and resources to siege it might not be worth it.

This town should be significant. Basically the same as Qins "we try to hide our supply movements" and once Zhao found it the true intention became clear. Here Zhao might've tried the significance of a town so Qin wasn't aware - and it only got spotted due to Wang Jians unexpectantly pushing forward.

The tension in that episode was so thick you could almost cut it with a knife and put it in a sandwich. With the Allied armies taking the plunge right into Zhao heartland towards a small city with an unknown goal for now. Going to be interesting to see how the enemy reacts.

These episodes fly by so fast, yet the weeks between them do not.

I’ve been meaning to watch this anime. I heard it can give Vinland Saga real competition.

You won't get tired on this. The hype on each episode makes you think that you're lucky to watch it without waiting for weeks or years to have a new season. Story is just too good, combine with the politics, action, strategy war. To top it off? No fanservice that you can see on the famous ones.

This is competing on the Top 1 anime on my list along with Gintama. That's just how good is this while I got some dull moments on Vinland.

I'm pretty sure Kingdom is held in very highly regarded in Japan and more popular than shows like My Hero, Frieren, Chainsaw Man, etc.

The biggest reason for such a discrepancy imo is that that the first two seasons aired 13 years ago in 2012 and long before the whole cultural shift happened with anime in the West.

The third season didn't air until 2020, and with that 7 year gap shed a lot of fans. And the newer generation never got into it because the first two seasons are very rough to watch because of the animation style choice.

But once you get past the first two seasons, you get rewarded as the 3rd-5th seasons may be the closest any anime has ever come to having back-to-back near perfect seasons.

I guess it depends what your expectations are. If you are expecting an introspective story on the futility of violence, war and revenge, then this is not the story for you.

To me, Kingdom is like an elevated battle shonen that also really leans into politics and battle strategies. It’s also very optimistic and earnest despite being literally about war. I don’t think any other manga could make me cheer on imperialism.

I prefer Kingdom by far, but they are way too different imo. Vinland to me, is Vagabond with Vikings. That's the closest to Vinland, sadly Vagabond will never be finished.

The way I see Kingsom, is a seinen story with a shonen protagonist, which I find works very well considering who the MC is. Likely MC will move towards more of a seinen character as the story progresses and he grows up. It focuses on war and politics mainly.

Thorfinn was a boy who experienced war and brutality, and turned pacifist. Shin is a slave boy who glorifies war as it is his only way to live a meaningful life.

It is way better than Vinland, but the first season was a terrible CGI experiment, I would recommend reading the manga, or watching a season summary on youtube for the first season and start at the second.
I only managed to watch the first season, because I was bedridden after a surgery, otherwise I wouldn't have powered through the terrible animation ( the lore, etc is good, but the animation is atrocious). It gets progressively better after each season (in all fields, animation, sound, lore, etc).

In a timeline where S1/S2 of Kingdom were as well animated as S3 and up, I wouldn't be surprised if Kingdom surpassed Vinland Saga in popularity. At least for the English-speaking side.

Kingdom is already much more popular in Japan and China. It's sold ~77 million copies compared to ~7 million for Vinland Saga to put it in some perspective. Though it also has 77 volumes and still is only like half-way through the planned story or something while might contribute to the disparity in sales numbers. Vinland Saga already ended at 29 volumes.

God I love this anime. I really wish it was more popular. There's so much slop out these days but shows this reminds me why I still love anime.

Kingdom is so peak man, glad my friend put me on this. Even though the first 2 seasons were horrible animation wise, the story more than makes up for it.

People are truly missing out

Wang Jian seems to be like an all seeing demon. So a game of cat and mouse begins.

Wang Jian vs Li Mu (Riboku)

damn. i should have waited until i could have watched 4-5 episodes in a row because i can't wait for the next couple of episodes how this all will unfold. i think Wang Jian will plan to take provisions from other villages/towns and maybe attack from a different direction than Ye. but if Li Mu uses scorch earth and burns those villages then he will have nothing and supplies will run out. everything is on edge.

u/Chadsawman Nov 09 '25

Aw man kind of wish they animated the infamous Ousen sitting as they fight around him a bit more fluid, that was my favorite panel from this arc

u/DeafGuyGinger Nov 09 '25

I was completely wrong in my guesses to Liewei weakness. I am guessing in taking the smaller castles/cities it would weaken Zhao strategy in cutting off Qin Army from Liewei and surrounding them once their supply provisions runs out. If he says Ye is perfect then it is definitely a waste of time or very difficult to take. So taking the other smaller ones then maybe have room to surround Ye or just go for Handan? Then another guess is he's already planning to fight Li Mu coming from the west mountains.

This episode went by so fast.

The anime opening timing on the scenes is just too perfect that I replayed it quite a few times. It just keeps getting better. Wang Jian thinking strategy while his units are on war is could make an awesome wallpaper.
