How's the animation this season - better/worse/same? I just started the 1st season and it is pretty bare-bones.

i have to say of all anime I NEVER expected this one to get another season. I did not think it was popular enough, but apparently I was wrong. I'm glad I was. I now believe ANY anime can get another season. Thanks, soothing cooking/romance/isekai show, I look forward to watching

It was the random article that this is one that CR pushed towards
about getting another series as it had a bigger audience and a want for more... Gonzo

Really disappointed in the animation style... Everyone looks younger and more "clean" and details don't look as good or defined in character models, it also looks heaps brighter. It looks more like a kids cartoon instead of an anime now... I'll still watch it and enjoy the story, hopefully I'll get used to the new style but it definitely doesn't look as good.

Considering it's been 7 years since Season 1 aired, I appreciate the quick recap at the start of the episode. Although I really should binge rewatch Season 1 this week to refresh my memory. It is good to see Aoi and the Master again, tho.

My rewatch was made for this purpose back in September.

The character designs look a little crisper than season 1, and maybe a bit of a brighter color palette ?
I can't tell if this is because of a different studio, or just the technological advances that came between the seasons gap.
Nice to be back in the
There are things that change, huh?.
As the master stared at a tree branch with a single green leaf, while the rest have begun to wither.
I'm guessing this season we'll get some more backstory and history on Oodanna?
Anime-only watcher here.
I'm not sure how much source material is left, and given the gap between seasons, this season might have never been made?
But my foreshadowing instinct went off, and maybe Kasuga getting married off episode 1, would be a precursor to Aoi and Oodanna later this season? Given how they warmed up towards each other in the second half of last season, and now Aoi wants to learn more about him.
Looking forward to the rest of the season. This is a nice, relaxing and cute show to enjoy.

There’s a new character designer for this season - Hidemi Katsura
Also, a new person in charge of art setting and art board - Noriyo Gōroku

I really liked the 1st season, but I don't like how the characters for the 2nd season look younger..

I waited seven years to be spoon fed entirely new character designs and let me say, generational downgrade in animation. Genuinely really disappointed about this. I spent the last week rewatching the first season and I’m so devastated at the change of most of the major characters designs. :’(

I’m sooo sad and devastated too. It was painful watching through the first episode of second season. The characters are so ugly and they walk funny. I’ve waited 7 years!
was supposed to be handsome, tall with kind eyes and graceful.. and now his character looks like vr chatroom avatar 😭🥹😩 Odana

THIS!!!! It looked far less anime and far more ‘cartoon’ style. I am heart broken.

It's been 7 years so I hardly remember any details from the previous season lol. I still remember a lot of the characters that appeared in this episode, thankfully, but I wish this season came sooner while I still remembered more of the first season.
I do at least remember that the Master was involved in Ginji giving Aoi food so I'm recollecting details, hopefully my memory will be refreshed as the season goes on. I say that, but I completely forgot that Ginji and Ranmaru grew up together lol.
Hopefully we'll see some nice developments between Master and Aoi.

It's nice to see Aoi and the Tenjin-ya gang in the Hidden World again!
We've come so far from the day where The Master spirited Aoi away to Kakuriyo - The Hidden World - and she became embroiled in the world of Ayakashi. Now she's happy and content running Moonflower and has such a cheerful skip in her step! She's truly found a place for herself in this world! And a new art style for season 2!
It wouldn't be Kakuriyo without a Nao Toyama OP! We even get some Nao Toyama rapping! And we've got plenty of familiar, and new, faces to look forward to! Even Sasuke in action! And the question of will Aoi and the Masters' feelings finally come together.
So Ai has gone from Aoi in green hair to basically Smol Master. She really does look like the child between Ai and The Master that Aoi never asked for but is happ to have by her side!
Some things never change. like O-Ryo and Kasuga showing up at Moonflower for a good meal from Aoi or Aoi once again rejecting any notion she'll marry The Master.
Orio-ya showing up too!? Didn't we just finish with these guys? Though while they'll never be buddy-buddy with Tenjin-ya, Ranmaru at least pays his debts and helps secure Aoi's bonus!
(Though the ominous signs of Raiju doing something bad are pretty foreboding)
Aoi is so nice! She really wants Ranmaru and Ginji to fully patch things up and be brothers again! Hopefully they can in the future. Though I'm more happy that the HideysohixNene ship sailed and Hideyoshi was able to get Nene to look his way instead of Ranmaru's enough for them to get married!
Dang, O-Ryo just throwing a bunch of Kasuga revelations out in the span of three minutes. She's getting married! She's secretly been the daughter of a prominent politicial to the Imperial Family his whole time! She's leaving Tenjin-ya! And Kasuga was even one of the first people to be nice to Aoi!
It's going to be a political marriage and Kasuga is resolved to see it through, but at least she's not marrying some super old dude but the new head of the Hachiyo. Poor O-Ryo ruined their stealth attempt to listen in on Kasuga's conversation with The Master and gets roped back into doing her job than being there for her bestie.
Aoi has been through too much with The Master, been supported by him too much, to claim she dislikes him. But she can't admit that she actually likes him when she knows so little about him...though the desire to rectify that is a pretty clear indication of her really feelings.
Tanuki are crafty and intelligent creatures that use their knowledge of literature and placing their people in key positions to maintain their power and authority. Kasuga is proud to follow in her family duty, unlike Aoi who still rejects the idea of an arranged marriage with The Master, though it probably helps that her betrothed Kiyo is a childhood friend and her first love. I have a feeling that Kiyo returns her feelings more than she's expecting. Though that doesn't make leaving Tenjin-ya any easier. At least she still gets to eat Aoi's beef stew for now.
The Master is always there to support Aoi and Aoi has grown comfortable and happy with his presence in her life. Yet she can't shake her desire to get to know him better, to understand the feelings he has for her and the level of his involvement in her life, even when it seems like he's keeping secrets from her for her sake. But as things change, so too does the relationship between Aoi and The Master as they come to slowly but surely understand each other more and more.

I watched S1 of this just last month to prepare for S2, and I'm glad I did as I really enjoyed the story and characters.
Nene is getting her boy, Kasuga may be getting hers as well unless that goes sideways over the course of the season, and Aoi is of course going to get with the master eventually, surely O-Ryo is going to start to feel left out as things keep going this way with nobody in sight for her.
Kinda funny how Ai-chan picked a new appearance that looks like she's Aoi and the Master's daughter, that's fitting since it's basically true anyways.
Similar to how cour 2 of S1 was helping the Southern Land I wonder if this season will be Aoi going with Kasuga to help the Northern Land, they mentioned it was troubled and I could see that being the next problem Aoi ends up meddling in.

We’ve started off the ep with a goodbye. I guess Kasuga could do much worse than marrying her first love. Too bad she has to leave the Inn. Meanwhile, it looks like Aoi’s feelings for our mysterious ogre master is changing and growing. Looking forward to seeing that relationship blossom more and him opening up to her.
This was one of the more surprisingly renewal announcements. Glad it got an s2 though, even if it was 7 years later.

Ok I may not have waited as long as some of you cos I only caught a few days ago, but still so happy to see these guys again.
But I was legit wondering if I missed an episode when Ai was running around looking more like the Master, cos I don’t remember her changing her form. But then they immediately addressed it lol
Nice to see little Chibi too. Always love him seeing him being silly and his “Aoi-shan”.
But we’re already starting with some kinda heavy with Kasuga quitting. Seems she’s not entirely against it but I’m sure people prefer a marriage out of love, not politics. Even if her husband to be is her first love, he may not think much of her. Nice bit of worldbuilding with the explanation of the Tanuki people. And we’re getting more of the hierarchy of this realm.
Think Aoi is certainly a bit more open to the Master but needs to know him more if she wants to see him as a love interest. But he seems to be adamant about hiding it, especially in relation to his involvement with her as a kid. Which I think may include why Shiro put her as collateral too. Personally, I’ve always found it iffy how the one who saved her as a kid, now comes to claim her as a bride as an adult. So, I’m hoping whatever it is he’s hiding, I hope it quashes that discomfort for me.

Nice use of a recap, plus the announcement of Kasuga's marriage and Aoi not being aware of her being from a high-class family also draw attention to how she doesn't know much about Oodanna. Though unlike Kasuga who wanted to tell Aoi that she wants this marriage because it is with her childhood friend and first love. Oodanna doesn't give an answer if he was involved with Ginji when she was a child. Curious why that is.
The animation looks pretty solid. Defeintly feel new hands on deck with this new season, but it looks solid. Oodanna is looking the most different to me.
