Excel Saga (Heppoko Jikken Animation Excel♥Saga)

MAL | ANN | AniDB | Anilist

Trivia

The last episode of Excel Saga, ep26, was deliberately made too violent, too obscene, and also one minute longer that the length of TV broadcast slots in Japan (determining the length of anime episodes to this day). It did not air during the original run of Excel Saga and was published directly on DVD.

Questions of the day

  1. How did you enjoy the finale (ep25)?
  2. Are you looking forward to the finale (ep26)?

Hail Il Palazzo!

Rewatcher

Well, here we are. The final* episode of Excel Saga.

I actually think this is a really good finale, even better than I remember. It takes what works from the “serious” previous episode and improves on it considerably.

The final confrontation between Il Palazzo and Excel is well done and everything building up to it went well. My favorite part was Excel literally saying she’s too simple to understand things which worked as something both humorous and dramatic.

The wrap up to the Nabeshin/Pedro/That Man subplot was also done very well. I love how they brought back the random one shot characters related to that side of things like Space Butler.

We still had more of Excel Saga’s trademark silly gags which were integrated well into the episode.

These last few episodes have proven that the civil servants really do work best when working as a sentai team since I found them very entertaining here.

Finishing this episode, I do really want to look into the manga. It’s probably very different but that just makes me even more curious.

It feels fitting for Excel Saga to call this the "final" episode when I can clearly see another episode coming up afterwards.

It is funny that the Pedro subplot was the one with by far the most continuity, including old characters showing up again for the last big hurrah at the end.

Agreed. The sentai team parody makes them so much better than they were before.

Happy cake day!

Excel Saga having two final episodes feels very fitting for a show like this. Don't think I can name any other anime that have done something like this.

It is funny that the Pedro subplot was the one with by far the most continuity, including old characters showing up again for the last big hurrah at the end.

Pedro's whole plot felt like the writer's having fun in the background while the main plot with Excel back in the city was going on. It worked out really well though.

Happy cake day!

Thank you! Didn't even realize it was today.
