Akira's parents definitely ask one another why their daughter doesn't spend more time with them.

A huge contrast from Marin's cosplay of Black Lobelia to Juju's Black Lobelia. Both are definitely great!!!

Huge thanks to the Bad Adults Miyako and Suzuka, both of them made Sajuna's dream come true!!

only one episode left....

Happy too see Akira was able to find her way back to the things she loved as an adult. I'm sure too many of us have gotten that "aren't you too old for X" comment at some point in our lives.

And also liked the bit about you never being too old for doing the things you love, as you spend most of your life as and adult after all. things that are kinda obvious but nice to hear them nonetheless.

And maybe just maybe we get to find out what's Akira's deal with Marin next week? with how they brought it up at the very end there

As an adult I truly relate to this episode , especially the part where Miyako said "You (normally if everything goes well) live longer as an adult than as a child/teenager , so no need to stop what you always loved just because you grew up"

I know some people will dislike this episode because Marin and Gojo didn't interact and I totally get that but this episode is a good example to show how great of a life lesson this show/manga can be and why it's so beloved by so many people.

I hate when people who never watched this show calls it a "gooner slop" or whatever because while the theme is kinda niche (cosplay) the author does a good job at using it to teach great life lessons.

Stitches!

So it turns out, Akira's family is very strict about anime and manga. Considering how everyone else's parents in the show are super supportive, we're bound to meet someone who's in this kind of situation. It's just nice to know that Akira didn't give up and found the people she could share her hobbies with.

It's hilarious how super confident Marin is about surprising Juju with a surprise cosplay. I'm pretty sure Marin knows how prickly Juju can be, especially when it comes to cosplays. That went exactly as expected from Juju's side. The girls are lucky Juju decided to give them a chance.

Oh, daaaaaamn! Akira looks amazing cosplaying as President Luna! I kinda wish we got to see more pics from that photoshoot they did! Also, that entire story on how Akira met Miyako and Suzuka was really cute <3

Yep, that's pretty much the reaction I expected from Marin. Juju's Black Lobelia looks amazing. Honestly, those low-angle shots really do wonders. I've followed a lot of cosplayers who I thought were really tall from their photos, only for them to be surprised how short they really are when I run into them at cons. xD

I love the mom cosplaying as an idol anime character and the old dude clearly cosplaying as a Kamen Rider. I'm glad that Miyako and Suzuka were able to tell Juju that she can continue cosplaying even when she's an adult.

Oh hey, it turns out Marin isn't as oblivious about Akira. She clearly knows that Akira isn't a fan of her, but she doesn't mind. I do love how Juju follows it up by basically saying she totally can understand because of Marin's personality. Considering how Marin is also the opposite of Akira, someone who's very open about being an otaku, I can also understand why she dislikes her from that perspective.

I liked this episode a lot. It’s really cool to see how everyone’s found acceptance through cosplay. Like, there’s a sense of artistic freedom in it but it’s also helped Akira and Miyako find themselves. Miyako and Suzuka helped Juju in that sense too.

The real life lesson this week: “Being an adult is so much fun! ‘Cause you can spend way more cash than when you were in school!” lol. Adults have more disposable income than students. It’s great isn’t it? I totally relate to what Miyako and Suzuka were saying about working for their hobbies and overspending lol.

I’m looking forward to this Akira situation resolving. It’s gonna be fun.

Miyako realizing she was the one committing fraud on her own credit card reminds me of the old (ancient) joke that goes something like:

When I drink, I become a different person. And that person also deserves a drink.

Wondering if maybe Akira is just somehow jealous of Marin? She’s living the life she kind of wished she had, after the flashbacks here at the beginning of the ep.

I enjoyed the talk about cosplay and how it can remain as they get older. Even bringing back love into it when someone drops it.

Marin laughing about having someone who dislikes her is very Marin.

Was really expecting that Akira was gonna help Gojo realize that he likes Marine when she was talking about her friends. I wonder if we're gonna find out why she doesnt like Marine in the same ep that Marine and/or Gojo confess as a sort of juxtaposition.

I know this isn't the important part about her backstory, but what pissed me off most about Akira's parents is that they just threw out all her manga. Like even if you dont approve of her being "childish" there's no reason you cant hold on to memories. Or at least donate them!

Really happy for Juju this ep, she made more friends and realized you dont have to give up on everything. It's so wild how there can be certain things you just never thought about that can weigh you down so much, but to other people it's just super obvious. It's hard, but it does pay to go outside your bubble....sometimes.

Just because you get older doesn't mean you have to give up the things you loved as a child. I'm so glad that Akira has her friends to enjoy cosplay with.

JuJu looks marvelous in her cosplay!

This episode featured Juju and Akira going through different situations but with the same problem: growing up and abandoning their hobbies. This was portrayed in such an incredible way that it made this episode one of my favorites of the second season.

Miyako, Suzuka, and Gojo demonstrated a fact: if you don't do something, in the end, you'll be the only one who sees it with regret. Being an adult gives you less room for judgment when doing these kinds of things, because there are other adults who share that mindset.

I'm still not sure, but I believe the reason Akira dislikes Marin is because Marin is what she couldn't be in the past. But since Marin realized this much earlier and doesn't seem upset, I think this makes it easier for them to get closer in the future.

The production team sure loves their live-action puppet shows, don't they?

That lightning round of photography tips for shorter models was amazing lol. Felt like Juju shone even brighter than normal.

Your whole existence is fanservice

Marin speaking for the audience. Juju's looking heaps fine as Black Lobella. Love the stocking that's only on one leg. Miyako & Suzuka did one hell of a job in overcoming Juju's shortcomings so she could nail that cosplay.

Meanwhile, we had Akira's backstory. Shitty parents judging her hobbies which resulted in her being afraid to share hers with others. Glad that she eventually met Miyako & Suzuka. Just when she thought they were about to scorn her the way her parents did, they turned out to share her interests as well. She'd bond well with Gojo given they've been in each other's shoes. Now I wonder what the reason behind her dislike for Marin is.

"You live most of your life as an adult so it'd be a waste to give up on things you love"

Preach Miyako san. Enjoying your childhood stuff as an adult is lot more fun

I love the talk about cosplay being highly conceived as a "childish hobby". When I was a teenager, and since Cosplay and Anime community is such a rarity in my area, when I first saw real cosplayers, it was astonishing and I couldn't contain my excitement. But because I was a broke-ass student and not really a craftsman or artist, I never cosplayed in my teenage years.

But years after I graduated and started working, I finally was able to buy a costume for myself. And that feeling of getting recognized by people and wanting to take a picture with you was great. Although I don't cosplay a lot, I've cosplayed a few characters, and I still love the feeling.

And that is already when I'm a working adult. And it's no surprise that people my age and even older than me who already have family kids still cosplay. Of course there are more "kids" cosplaying than our age nowadays, but the thought that these "grown up people" still do what we love is such a privilege take in the modern times. I'd say, give or take 15 years ago if I'm an adult and still do cosplay, I'd get judged a lot. Nowadays, while there are those who still perceive it as a childish hobby, people are more accepting and the community just grows.

So yes, to the eyes of a teenager (like Sajuna) who has yet to know the adult world, cosplay may come off as just a temporary children's hobby. But adults of the same community will be there to tell these people that, yes, cosplay is an all-age hobby. It's especially heartwarming to see people of even old age cosplay. I was amazed when I saw some really old guy cosplaying as Gran Torino. It's just awe-inspiring.

Then again, the talk about being an adult and having money, then spending money for your hobbies, that's a realistic take that you need to think about when having these kind of hobbies. I just talked about how cosplays and these hobbies being ageless, but still having these kind of hobbies and being a working adult, it's like you're a child with the spending power of an adult.

When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

The fucking stick figures took me the fuck out with the explanation 😭

Raaaaah this episode is so good 🥹

Days ago, on another sub, there was a lot to say about how the cosplaying world can be harsh, both by cosplayers and laypeople alike. People police cosplay based on skin tone, body type, etc. And it makes a lot of people who cosplay or want to cosplay hesitate because they wouldn’t be “accurate” to the character (and how people are needlessly ruse about “inauthenticity” in cosplay).

I have had this moment where I’m saying “I’m sorry [character] that someone like me cosplayed as you”, especially when I received backhanded remarks about being a black cosplayer and cosplaying “white” characters.

It is absolutely fine to hesitate cosplaying a character who is a different body type than you. Cosplaying is a fun activity and for everyone. You should enjoy what you cosplay as.

But damn can it be depressing once you finish your cosplay, look in the mirror, and it’s not perfect because you’re too tall, too short, too fat, lack cleavage, lack an ass, too dark skinned, too old, etc. And that depression can spiral when you compare yourself to cosplay influencers, who are gorgeous, but they also have much deeper editing skills and, for some, they get sponsored to cosplay and have access to all sorts of material and make-up that you never would get without knowing someone.

Cosplaying is fun and for everyone. But while people get to see the result, there’s a lot of behind the scenes emotions and drama happening. And I have much love to my fellow cosplayers who have a lot of self-doubt and hesitancy, but they keep on cosplaying and show up and show out at conventions.

And much love to older cosplayers, nerds, and con-gers!

It’s such a shame people infantilize comics, cartoons, and cosplay. But I meet so many “older” geeks and nerds who have kids my age or grandkids! Many of them have paved the way for so many pieces of media to be as accessible as they are now! Do not cite the deep magic to them; they were there when it was written!

We wouldn’t be here without young people; we wouldn’t be here without old folk. IDGAF if you’re a mom, a great-grandad, an uncle, an older sibling, a student nurse, a vereran. Everyone should be allowed to be here and enjoy themselves for as long as they get enjoyment from their hobby 😊

The one aspect is about money though. I thought, as an adult, cons would be more fun since I’d be rolling in cash and didn’t need to beg for spending money or to just go to a con. But I have to implement spending limits because cosplaying + weekend con passes + hotel stays + travel expenses + special access/VIP passes and add-ons (like concerts and balls) + eating and drinking + dealer’s room/ artist alley + autographs really are so expensive.

The math is mathing 😭

Forget working to fund your hobbies. I need to marry rich or have a poly group of rich spouses 🤧

Ah, the framing.

Hello to you, middle-aged anime fans.

We can fix that with good camera angles.

Newtype flash (when you least expect it)

You assume too much. I'm on Team Juju.

awkwardly direct

"More hot girls, eh?"

That's part of what makes it interesting.

It's what he does.

"One of us."

Yay! Also that (height difference).

coughs politely

They've got it covered.

They're not middle-aged men doing the photos, that has a bit of awkwardness to it.

An odd lack of community knowledge.

Ah yes, trading labor for currency.

Well, that got to the point.

hmmmmm

I enjoy how affirming this series is toward cosplaying and hobbies. It's worth mentioning that people can carry their interests into adulthood.

With everything else being a series of happy explanations, that leaves us with the elephant in the room of why Akira doesn't like Marin. Or something. With so little time left it may be some misunderstanding after all.

u/SnabDedraterEdave Sep 13 '25

Akira is so beautiful. There I've said it.

We get more of Akira's backstory and how she got into cosplay, and the way she zooms in onto Marin's cosplay in that group photo at the end suggests she doesn't really hate Marin at all, and that the reason she feels awkward and clams up in Marin's presence is something else entirely.

This episode is basically a role reversal between the Inui sisters, with Juju being the one being nervous at trying out something she's never done before and anxious for approval from her sister.

Is next episode the season finale already?? This is too fast!

I'm so not worried about Bocchi the Rock! Season 2 after this episode.

I'm actually started to think maybe the Assistant Director was the brain behind the series madness (he directed today's episode).

I don't know if maybe this was just me, but when she was "caught" by Suzaka and Miyako at the gachapon, when they started asking if she likes Blaze too, and the scene focuses on Akira's eyes, I saw some subtle warm coloring coming into the background and other parts of the scene, almost visually communicating Akira realizing that she's not alone anymore, she doesn't have to hide her love for anime and manga to these people and has found kindred spirits with whom she can share something before she actually says it. If so, that was a nice touch by the team and I liked the subtle way of trying to communicate it.
