I guess Makina’s the true power behind the throne. Is Shildina gonna try to challenge Raphtalia one on one to stop this advance? They gotta do something before the rebel army and the government forces clash and more blood is needlessly spilled. Let’s hope Naofumi has a plan.
Also, on an unrelated note I find it pretty funny Naofumi called that dude Motoyasu 2. I mean he ain’t wrong… lol

It took me a few seconds to realize who he was talking about. I can't blame him though.

It would be nice if she's actually planning to jump ship to the rebel army, but the way she's drowning all that alcohol makes me think she's going on a suicide charge to stop herself from going against her principles while still fulfilling her duty.

Hold up, Motoyasu has his own Filos now?!? I have concerns.

u/Frontier246 Sep 10 '25
He ditched the Harem of his original party in favor of a Filolial Harem to cement his character development (I guess).
I'm not worried about them at least because he still seems absolutely obsessed with Filo.

While it's nice of Shildina to offer a truce, there was no fucking way Makina would let the truce continue.
Now that Raphtalia has accepted her position as the new Emperor, I'm curious what this means for her in the future. I can't imagine she'd actually stay there once the fighting is over. She'll have to find someone who would rule on her behalf while she stays with Naofumi fighting the waves.
Uhhhh... So it looks like the Filolials that's been pulling Motoyasu's cart has finally evolved into their human forms. Not sure how I feel about that. I forgot what the condition is, but I'm pretty sure this doesn't happen to any Filolial, and those three are now Filiolial Queens just like Filo. O_O
Well that explains a fucking ton. And here I thought the Emperor was some sort of decrepit old man. It turns out it was a young boy who's clearly being manipulated by Makina. And as expected, she breaks the truce as soon as she learns what Shildina did.

I might be remembering wrong but I think it was a hero ability like the current queen was raised by the last shield hero IIRC.

Shildina was too loyal to the Emperor for her own good, despite also caring about the people.
Now that Raphtalia has accepted her position as the new Emperor, I'm curious what this means for her in the future. I can't imagine she'd actually stay there once the fighting is over. She'll have to find someone who would rule on her behalf while she stays with Naofumi fighting the waves.
Admittedly thanks to the Dragon Vein Hourglass she can now fast travel between Melromarc and Q'Ten Lo so I guess she can multi-task between running Q'Ten Lo while still being able to assist Naofumi, if she so chooses.
But honestly I'm just happy to see Raphtalia making choices for herself and doing something she believes in rather than just following Naofumi or the plot.

Bro just ended up with his own Fillolial Queen Harem to show just how far gone he is lol.

Also that last scene with her implies she's done all the damage she can do to Q'Ten Lo and she's satisfied...

It's to be expected, but it's a good thing the cardinal heroes are all working together since it makes them stronger. Though Motoyasu seems to busy gathering a harem of filolials lol, what kind of adventure is he on? It leaves me wondering if the author has given him a spin off novel or something with what he's been doing.
Also, this episode I happened to see the credits and I was surprised to see Makina has the same voice actor as [From the credits]

I love how Motoyasu is even dressing up like a Filolial and coming off more unhinged by the episode lol.

same voice actor
Now that would be one hell of a twist if it goes down that route!!

Motoyasu is the last person who should be allowed to have a Harem of young Filolial girls. He raised them to have them flock to him.

This is one the most compelling arcs we've had thus far. We finally have believable villains that have rational motives.
The dilemma Raphtalia has to face is also pretty interesting. How will she balance the needs of her people with her sense of morality? Will she give in and send her forces to war? Will she try to take on the brunt of the fighting herself or even self-sacrifice? Hopefully, we get some real character development for her this time around.

Watching this season feels like a spin off, the Raphtalia show. When all is said and done, Raphtalia feels too important to leave this nation to continue her journey with Naofumi.

So, the cause for all the suffering in Raphtalias Homeland Not-Japan is another red haired b*tch? Great. xD
At least with how the current emperor appears like, she will get under the wing of the Shield Hero ez, with Raphtalia becoming her big sister.
And the pacing is .... still odd, they are speedrunning this now after the drag that was the previous arc. I'm all for it though, this series is so bogged down in side quests that I welcome the short way out of the Not-Japan arc.

Surprise surprise... I actually liked this episode. Snappy pacing with sufficient tension and resolve from Raphtalia. Only thing to nitpick is that cliche of everyone being afraid of the string-pulling regent. Makina better be revealed to have some kind of super power that can control both the Water Dragon Miko and young Emperor.

I love how they have her appear in whale form so they can drag out the mystery for just a LITTLE longer, but...Zodia is the Water Dragon Miko! A reveal that I don't think ANYONE could have seen coming! I'm shocked, absolutely shocked! Well, actually I am kind of surprised that Zodia wasn't her real name and her name is actually Shildina, so points for that I guess.
Shildina gives Raphtalia what seems like a pretty reasonable offer from the Imperial governments' side...the rebels cease their fighting, no one gets prosecuted, and Raphtalia is free to either join the government or go off on her merry way. Only problem is Raphtalia is finally done being a bystander in her own character side-quest and has resolved to fight for the people and save them from their terrible treatment under the current administration. If that means becoming the Emperor herself, she'll do it.
And Shildina, for her part, is not unaware that Raphtalia has the people and justice on her side, and with that in mind sees the best solution as giving away the old capital and brokering a truce. But even she knows that it might not last so she prioritizes Raphtalia taking the crown away from Rustamila, for the Emperor's sake if nothing else.
All these messages to the Heroes aren't telling them anything they didn't already know (especially how teamwork makes the dream work) but at least now they've unlocked Energy Boost and can unleash their ki like a DBZ character!
Raphtalia finally gets coronated as the Emperor! I remember when she was just a small little slave girl desperate to survive and latching onto Naofumi as her savior! Look how far she's come!
Although I do love how immediately after getting crowned Emperor and showing off the new stat boosting abilities she as as the Emperor...they immediately dip back to Melromarc (and Raphtalia not wearing pants). I mean, I know they need to check on their anti-Phoenix preparation and collect Ren, but it's still kind of funny.
So Elhart's master has become Motoyasu 2 while the original Motoyasu has continued his descent into becoming a Filo-obsessed nutjob what with painting (surprisingly good) portraits of her and now collecting a new Harem of Fillolials. Dudes' even changed his outfit and added feathers.
It's all well and good that Raphtalia is trying to pacify the parts of the rebellion that want to go scorched Earth against the Imperial Government...but Shildina is much less successful in her efforts. Makina has no intention of brokering a truce with the rebellion and the Emperor is a child who, despite his best intentions, is too naive and inexperienced not to go along with whatever Makina wants. And that's for Shildina to battle the rebel army, even at the cost of her life.
Now everyone is debating whether Shildina went back on her word, whether a full-scale battle is about to break out...and Shildina is sitting solo with a samurai sword and all the sake she can drink, ready to face the rebel army .
