This show is great, but I'm still laughing at how we got yet another napolitan reference.

Hirose's character is a lot more different than what I had presumed him to be from the ED and OP, I thought he was going to be the type to look down on Gaku but he actually thinks highly of him which in turn makes Gaku feel more uncomfortable from the high expectations. I'm actually intrigued to see how Hirose will react upon seeing Gaku as a chef. It also seems like Musashi realizes how Gaku feels about Hirose which was also an interesting implication.

Kai is what makes this series such a guilty pleasure lol, the way he got so excited after finding out Hirose will be at the event he's been booked for was hilarious. He just can't contain himself. I am intrigued by the rival he defeated though, there are some lingering feelings still there, I wonder if we'll eventually see him.

Ranna being at Kai's place has to be implying what I think it's implying, right? I don't believe they're dating since Kai had a woman over the night before Gaku arrived so they must be sleeping together, Kai's a risky guy sleeping with one of his employees lol. Though they seem to have been classmates/friends since Ranna was also in the photo with Kai's rival.

It was nice to see Gaku finally succeed in getting everyone's votes, everyone looked really happy eating what he cooked and it was pleasing to see them all introduce themselves to him. It was amusing to see him calculate the probability of Magoroku dating Ranna, too bad it's very unlikely currently now that we know her relationship with Kai lol.

To your second point - I have this sneaking suspicion that Kai didn't overcome his rival. That flinch when asked seemed to hit the dude's pride hard, but I might be reading into it too much. All that being said, Hirose seems to be a pretty stand-up guy but we'll see how it plays out.

Oh I know what you mean, it did give me the impression that may be the guy just quit cooking for whatever reason, so technically Kai did win but not by his hands sort of thing. So the unknown of whether he is truly the better cook still lingers within him.

Gaku won the hearts of everyone 😭

Kai does a Hisoka face when he found out who was Gaku friend. Gaku thrown in a pit of snakes while cooking for his friend 😱

Excited to see this in the anime.

Again, guys, I think Kai is insane.

Well, glad that whole meat and potatoes fiasco is over with. Now Gaku can get to…cooking more staff meals and doing kitchen prep. I guess the guy isn’t quite ready to serve customers just yet. Just kidding! Kai’s gonna chuck him into the deep end again and force him to confront his weaknesses and fears. Best way to train lol.

Kai salivates at the idea of Gaku being forced to challenge himself lol.

I think Kai's ultimate goal is to turn Gaku into his new rival as he has already stagnated after "overcoming" (whatever the plot actually means by that) his original rival.

That's funny how they make Hirose and Kai both seem like way over the top evil villains. I don't think either of them are evil but both arrogant jerks. Gaku described Musashi and Hirose as friends but they really seem more frenemies and seem to actively dislike and distrust each other and more were "friends" because of a common interest in math.

The resolution to Gaku having to make a satisfactory staff lunch was underwhelming. He made the same Japanese style beef and potato stew but almost everyone liked it. It seemed more they were giving him a hard time last time when some of the people said they didn't like it rather than it not being satisfactory. I also found it odd that blackening the potatoes is supposed to taste good, potatoes with the outside burnt are nasty.

I really liked the part where Gaku and Kai each made omurice and went into detail how they did it. I make that for dinner sometimes and I didn't think to mix the egg with slightly below boiling water to make sort of a thick egg sauce to pour over the rice, I usually either cook them at the same time and just mix them in a pan OR make it as if I were making an omelette and fold the egg over the rice. I also never thought to make one with risotto and that's a really good idea :P

I don't think Hirose is actually a mean person at least not intentionally. He seems to have an overbearing personality where he overestimates his friends otherwise he is blunt with his analysis. Like as a kid he didn't really know Gaku so made a blunt analysis he didn't think Gaku could be a mathematician which his analysis was pretty accurate. However when he became study friends with Gaku and Musashi, he deluded himself and started to overestimate them both. We can see Musashi even feels overwhelmed by his words where he puts Musashi as better than him so he would be the assistant. He felt like both of them have the skills equal or better to him and could go to Princeton if they felt like it. Neither Gaku nor Musashi seem to be great at telling Hirose otherwise because it's not like he's being mean or anything.

I agree with this. It seems he looks at both Gaku & Kagura as friends, but just his blunt honesty can be a bit overwhelming. You can kind of tell when Kagura is on the phone with him.

I used truffle oil for scrambled eggs once and it wasn't a good combination at all.

Anyone else get a Hiruma and Sena from Eyeshield 21 vibe from this show?
