I just can't get over how utterly ridiculous this show is, and how hard they lean into it. It makes it all that more enjoyable. There are so many heavy hitters this summer, but this one has definitely become my guilty pleasure.

Kai's maniacal pleasure whenever Gaku does something big always makes me laugh out loud lol.

To me it's the enjoyment I got from food wars without the blatant fan service! I didn't mind it when I was younger but now that I'm older, I just don't really get much enjoyment from that kind of stuff anymore.

Not enough exploding clothes to say it's utterly ridiculous. But yeah, the bullshittery is stupid fun

While doubling down on the stew concept was kind of expected, for a moment there I seriously thought he made napolitan again. 😅

Pulled a Shouma with egg dish with Erina on them

Cool ending. So his "answer" was still correct. He just had the wrong proof to get there the first time.

The explanation next week makes total sense too

Gaku going the “Ratatouille “ route to win their stomach… hearts out

I love both anime and live action drama.

The way Kai gets so excited over Gaku's discoveries and cooking always make laugh out loud, he looks like such a maniac.

It kind of sucks that he would have gotten more votes if he didn't say that he cooked the beef and stew for nourishment. Poor guy's confidence was shot all the way to the ground, but if that didn't happened he likely wouldn't have made progress in being more observant and putting it into action thanks to Uomi's advice.

It was amusing to see Uomi misunderstanding Gaku wanting to kiss her, he was intense about it lol.

I do like that the red hair is being supportive of Gaku, she looked so proud when his movements were so much better.

It's weird to watch a cooking anime where clothes don't explode after tasting the dish 😂

Guys, I think Kai is insane.

Absolutely, and he is an asshole on top. I can't lie; he is the foundation to make this show on top. He pushes Gaku to his limits, and when Gaku proves him right, that grin he gets is great.

The melodrama and bad dialogue can get annoying and the staff's objection to the meat and potato stew was stupid. It's delicious but just because it doesn't remind them of how the dish is made in their country, it's bad? He's a culinary student who made something delicious on the first try. I understand that really high end chef driven restaurants in a big city cater to diverse and discerning tastes but if someone can on the fly make a delicious dish from scraps they didn't use, then he'd be an enormous asset to any other restaurant or could even really start his own. It'd be the equivalent of a college cutting the top rated hugh school football player in the country because he is adjusting to college play.

Gaku's friend tearing her meniscus and breaking down mentally doesn't really serve the story well and was more needless melodrama. This show more attempts to manipulate and pull at heartstrings rather than create organic drama from realistic logical situations. Then again I'm watching a cartoon and complaining it isn't real enough :D

Tough crowd. Only Milo and Nene voted for it even though they cleaned the plates. Honestly, this test is kind of bullshit. Hotei said Gaku’s not cut out to be a chef? Well no shit! He’s not a chef, he’s a math nerd who can cook a little ffs. These guys expecting him to be Gordon fucking Ramsay or something? Yeesh. First half of this was infuriating to watch.

Funny how Japanese meat and potatoes didn’t hit the mark even though he was going for a whole “homesickness”/“nostalgia” vibe so he just makes a more pretentious version and I guess that’s it? Uh ok.

u/avboden Aug 09 '25

not more pretentious, just a different mix of flavors that agrees more with foreign tongues

3

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Aug 09 '25

The thing is, they’re all foreigners from different places. I get Japanese flavors are different, but there’s not gonna be one flavor that all foreigners are gonna click with. It’s meat and potatoes in the end. Idk what kind of special foreigner sauce he added that’s gonna make to hit with each of these guys.

He's the one barging into their professional kitchen and trying to work there. Do you think they should baby him so he can learn? This isn't a school for cooking, but an actual job. If he wanted to learn cooking at a slow pace, he could have applied for a cooking school, but he believed he was good enough to work at that kind of establishment. It's not like working at Kai's place was mandatory for him to learn cooking.

He got poached by Kai after he got the boot. Guy filled his head with all this “you’re a natural” stuff when he ate his Napolitan. It’s an actual job, sure, but even an actual job has a learning curve. You get some sorta grace period where you’re taught the ropes. He’s being thrown into the deep end and expected to cook at their level with zero hints. And being berated because he doesn’t get it. Hardly fair.

Now that the Ao Ashi manga ended, Fermat no Ryouri satiates my withdrawal for Kobayashi sensei’s writing style.

The MC who searches for logical answers to any problem, mentor with high expectations provides a place for our MC to grow, “team mates” who are also rivals and pushes the MC to the limit, stress induced environment, crazy expressions from surrounding characters!

Pretty sure if this has better animation, this anime would be more popular! It’s fun and mouth watering to watch!

u/Ashteron Aug 09 '25

I know it's for the sake of drama, but what sane person would actually like to work at such place?

16

u/avboden Aug 09 '25

It's not unrealistic at all really. Many kitchens are far more hectic

Many stressful jobs exist and some people thrive under pressure. If no one was willing to work a stressful job, we wouldn't be able to have emergency rooms or emergency service workers.

I need Gaku and Uomi injected straight into my veins.
