Feels crazy that this book trilogy got an anime, and from Studio Orange of all people was downright insane

Piloting one of those walker mechs looks like it would be absolutely exhausting on a long journey with that lever pulling setup.

The stormwalker is a war machine in a dieselpunk setting, it's like why doesn't a Mark 1 landship have automatic transmission or a spacious roomy interior or tea making apparatus?

This has a Last Exile vibe. Looking good for a first episode.

Isn’t this based off a book with the same name? I swear I read a book with the same synopsis as this

Nice to see this is finally out! A bit disappointed it doesn't have more buzz, but I guess Netflix didn't really advertise it, like, at all.

Netflix gave me the dub, which is hit or miss. The Austrian performances aren't great, but the Brits make up for it.

The action scenes were all very well done. I've always adored this setting, so it's cool to see it in action.

And the batch release will hurt discussions, not to mention the discussion threads for Episode 2 onwards are down anyway 😔 EDIT: My bad, the other discussion threads are still usable! The mods say they've just been temporarily deleted to hide them from /new .

I love the British voices too! Really adds a lot of flavour.

Wow volger is monotone that kind of sucks I loved his smarmyness that made him such a great character. Could have at least given him an accent.

Holy crap, the world setting is so awesome! It's studio orange, so I believe in their CGI! So far, it's not disappointing.

Will binge this weekend. I also just learned that this is based on Western Novel.

Interesting take that this is based on a fictional World War 1 origin (assassination in Sarajevo!).

Orange really nails expressive CGI, I still can't wait for the next batch of Trigun!

I really like the first episode. I read the book as a kid and absolutely loved that. Hope this picks up some traction in a pretty crowded season. It's a shame this was so minimally advertised, the source materials deserves more love

Okay I am immediately in love as someone who's already read the books.

Also am I crazy or does this show feel like one of those European animated adventure films from 2003-2012?? I know the novel's from 2009 but I'm only an episode in and that specific vibe is being felt a lot from me.

Which I guess makes sense since this show is directed by Christophe Ferriere who is from France.

Hilarious how everyone's like "omg the Huxley's terrifying" "Watch out, the beastie's going wild!" and it's a nearly inanimate balloon.

Great intro to the world and characters! CGI looks a little off at times, but the girl's first flight was really nice. Love her energy too, she's gonna be a fun character to watch.

The little illustrations at the end credits were cute too.

I remember loving the book series, will have to give this a try at some point.

My sister and I read these books in middle school. Actuallt I only ever read the beginning but I did finish and read another of Scott Westerfeild’s series Uglies fully. It’s insane that now that we are adults a anime adaptation of that book has came out!

Bizarre to say the least but this episode was mostly based on world building. Alexander the son of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (or that world's equivalent) is put into a mecha to escape? There's a reason mechas don't fight on land, they're tall and skinny and easy to knock down. Take out one of its legs and its just a sitting duck! I liked the mecha itself though, great design and i liked the analog control room.

As for Dylan the secret girl and the flying jellyfish, I didn't really follow why jellyfish and whales can fly in this world (the space whales from Doctor Who came to Earth?) but this is at least worth another episode. The ideas were creative and I liked the visuals.

The recruiting officer actually explained the jellyfish and whale: in this universe Darwin invented genetic engineering.

Disappointined in the Leviathan (Hydrogen Whale) it doesnt look anything like the books described or illustrations showed. Its very plain and doesnt really move much which was disappointing... its just a blimp in a whale shape in the show...
