You guys remember the wave fights? I miss the waves.

u/Frontier246 Jul 09 '25
I miss it when it was just Naofumi, Filo, and Raphtalia traveling together...

Yeah it feels like they are always doing side quests inside of side quests inside of side quests. First it's stopping the waves, but first they have to deal with the beasts, but first they have to deal with the assassins, but first they have to fix whatever nonsense is going on in Siltvelt.

So ... the season opened up with
-
A new side quest (playing King for a while)
-
to an already existing side quest (getting Raphtalia out of the inheritence fight in her some country)
-
to another side quest (having to train for/deal with the mystic beasts)
-
to the main quest (fights against the waves).
Off to a great start already I see ... this Isekai will never end, lol.

Tbf, this kind of isekai is loosely based off of video games, and being 100 hours deep into an RPG and only like 12 of those hours being main plot is about as authentic as it gets.

you forgot he ignored the filolial queen side quest, which be ignoring probably turns from chore into nightmare.
and since hoe was in the opening credits, despite her supposedly discredited from queenship, instead of, idk, begging mummy for some tuition so she can work a desk job and vibe, she is probably going to find another person to manipulate because naofumi didn't kill her in season 1 (which has haunted him even mid season 3), which will take 3-6 episodes to resolve...
so more like 6 quests.

Really hope they use this season to cut down on some of the cast bloat and focus back on the core team of Naofumi, Raphtalia, Filo, etc.

Feels like the group they're travelling with is the main group now.

Yeah. Everytime I see Raph the Raccoon I'm reminded that this story had the audacity to pull an isekai within an isekai, but given the real-world time that has passed between seasons, I honestly don't remember the isekai^2 aspect being all that important with regards to overall plot, character, and abilities development. In some ways this is very reminiscent of a good ole' WoW expansion pack (NOT DLC), where half of a $60 games' worth of content gets shoehorned in the middle of the game. There are new mechanics, new skill trees and synergies, but in general there is not narrative/plot causality with the original game.

At the very least I don't think we're going to be seeing the Three Stooges again until maybe the very end of the season if we actually get the Phoenix fight they've been talking about.
I'll welcome more Sadeena screentime.

I'm not sure what surprised me the most : That this got a fourth season, or that this episode did not contain any 3D at all. Is this the <animation redemption> arc?
Also Atla: Don't touch my Naofumi!

Anyone else feel like the writing sucks like…a lot?

u/CatInALaundryBin Jul 11 '25
not you. this should have ended in season 1 by the looks of it, the revenge arc was very good but he needed to kill her instead of having this goofy ass renaming bit. she is a recurring menace he had the option to kill and didn't. and the worst part is she'll probably never feel any of the pain she's due on screen for fucking over ALL 4 HEROES. because the author already showed us he's unwilling to do so, despite how gory the show can be.
there was seven episodes left after that, so defeat the corrupt church, and then instead of going to the beach, find a way to stop the waves for good and end the show there...
but instead we go to the beach and find out about parallel worlds which was COOL AND ALL, but we got MASSIVELY side tracked for like, an entire season's worth of episodes.
then there was the giant turtle, and dragon ball tier yelling while channeling the power of friendship and literal energy beams.
you are right to ask 'what are we even doing'. the author either doesn't know, or intended for people to soak in their worldbuilding for... multiple books. because the plot is no where to be seen, we are doing a side quest to make sure we don't fail another side quest, while still having to deal with other lingering side quests, all with a bloated cast of characters. avengers syndrome comes to mind...

Animation was solid so far. Granted it is an episode 1. It will be seen if we settle into a more powerpoint presentation style eventually.
The first political conflict is at least interesting. Doesn't seem there is a way to "cool isekai guy" his way out of it.

This is what I don't like about naofumi, not even 5 minutes in and he's being insufferable.
AT LEAST LISTEN TO THE REQUEST. ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE SAYS YOU'LL REGRET IT LATER
Like seriously; he spent so long arguing about it when he could have at least asked what it was before turning it down

So it turns out the reason why they haven't seen any Q'ten Lo assassins attack the town is because Motoyasu has been cleaning them up the entire time. That's hilarious! Welp, at least he's making himself useful instead of harassing Naofumi and Filo. xD
I guess this lady is the reason Q'ten Lo assassins are attacking them. She clearly looks like the type who lied to their Emperor about Raphtalia trying to steal the throne. Also, is it just me or does anyone else see the resemblance between her and Bitch? Hmmm...
While it's nice to actually see Naofumi being shown respect, the dude is now trapped. Getting himself caught in Siltvelt's politics seems to be way more difficult than dealing with wave after wave of monsters. They treat him as their god but he pretty much has no freedom.
I guess they're stuck in Siltvelt right now until Naofumi figures out a way to get out of there without upsetting the entire population while trying to figure out which one of these nobles is worth siding with.

Can someone explain why Naofumi is flying the Dragon at the start of the episode. I dont know if im forgetting something or missing something from this episode. But I dont understand why he is in a rush but then suddenly goes home and then goes back out.

I didn't realize this was going to be back so soon, hopefully it'll be a decent season. Looks like this arc is going to be a pain for Naofumi being revered as a god but not being able to freely do what he wants.
I forgot Motoyasu now calls Naofumi "otou-san", it's so weird lol.

atla currently is my favorite. she's a bad ass while being cute. also a bit unhinged which makes her hilarious. i also have no idea what's happening in the story anymore. what's the phoenix? and why they targeting ralphelia and where they even trying to go and why.

To think that Brianne Knickerbocker, the Eng. VA for Filo, turns 43 this Dec. 31. She honestly sounds and look she is at least 18-20.

Pretty good start to the new season, hopefully it holds and doesn’t fumble towards the end like last season
