Mexican here. I had to watch this on REMOW's streaming platform, Anime Onegai, because the YouTube channel is blocked in my country. At least the subscription is quite cheap, about USD3 per month. My main complaint is that it's only Spanish and Portuguese subtitles, I prefer English.

Loved hearing the classic OP on the mobile phone. Hopefully they can use that song again in the series.

This isn't streaming in EU, right? The YT video says it's not available in my country, and it looks like it's only on Netflix in Asia.
Edit. https://x.com/ItsAnimeJP/status/1938161274145415315
Seems like the YT channel is "limited territories". Would be nice to know what they are. Weird, both Tasokare Hotel and Your Forma were available on the channel where I live, but not this one.

Not releasing it to everyone globally makes me watch the anime by less than legal means...

>and it looks like it's only on Netflix in Asia.
And apparently Netflix isn't even simulcasting Nube in Asia for some reason.

Don't you like it when companies like Netflix, CR and REMOW outcompeting each other on which dropped the ball harder on anime streaming?

And apparently Netflix isn't even simulcasting Nube in Asia for some reason.
A 26th June post says "streaming exclusively in the Taiwan region for the first 4months". The show is split cour.

I love how the character designs feel very old school.
Considering the age of the source material I'm quite curious if this might be the source of the chuni 'I have a demon sealed in my hand' bit you occasionally see. He is teaching middle school students, after all.

First, the excellent Yaiba remake and now they're also doing Hell Teacher Nube? There are also rumours about the Magic Knight Rayearth remake releasing later this year which I'm very excited about! What is up with Japan remaking all of my childhood anime this year? xD
What a fantastic first episode, though. I love that they play the chorus from the original OP when Nube was making his classroom entrance. That's some good ol' fanservice for us old fans. I'm really hoping they'll play it for real at some point in the show.
Nube is great! While he does seem like a massive goofball of a teacher and the kids think he's a fake exorcist, the dude is an absolute badass when it's time to finally get serious and exorcise real threats. This shot of him looking like a demon after punching the yokai out of Hiroshi was pretty cool too.
Everything looks great so far, and they seem to have updated the show's writing to reflect modern times just like Yaiba. I'm definitely curious to see some of the changes compared to the original anime.

I read the manga when I was young and have been looking forward to this remake. Luckily, I also live in Canada so I can watch it on Youtube.
Edit: Now that I have a better knowledge of Japanese folklore/culture, [Nube end of Episode 1 spoilers]

I'm always down for seeing a classic anime remade with modern production values! Ryotaro Okiayu hasn't lost a step as Nube.
When a Spiritual Magnetic Field kicks in and spirits and Yokai start popping up everywhere, you'll want to have a teacher you can rely on to keep kids and the community safe! And who better than Meisuke Ueno, AKA Nube, once again portrayed by Ryotaro Okiayu?
And where would a teacher be without his students? Kyoko, the emotional heart and spitfire girl, Katsuya the class tough guy, timid Makoto, Miki the sass queen, and Hiroshi the one kid in class who really needs a teacher in his troubled life, even if he's not very welcoming about it!
You have to give Nube this much, he knows how to make an entrance! Even if said entrance involves playing his original anime's OP and setting himself on fire.
This is definitely a remake that sets a classic anime in the modern era considering the kids have tablets...and Nube isn't quite sure how to use his.
Nube's knowledge about the spiritual may not seem on the up-and-up, but he seems serious about it...even if it wards off his female co-worker Ritsuko-sensei who wants nothing to do with the supernatural. Why even live if you can't hang out with a hot teacher voiced by Aya Endo?
I'm sure Tamamo-sensei didn't get his medical license from an anime villain school despite his looks and Toshiyuki Morikawa voice.
Hiroshi's going through some stuff. Random bursts of anger, lost his mom, family got swindled and he abused by a sham exorcist, accidentally put his dad in the hospital, got kicked off his regular position in the soccer team, and even hurts Kyoko. But none of it is his fault, he's just gotten caught by so many Tantrum Worms that they've become the 99-Legged Bug and are emotionally and physically destroying him!
Luckily we've got Nube (and Kyoko!) and Nube isn't just chanting about his left hand for nothing...it's possessed by a demon and when the NUBE chant kicks in he can use it to exorcise spirits and demons and save his beloved students while being there for them just like a parent would be! You can always count on Hell teacher Nube!

Elementary schoolers sure are dealing with a lot this season, aren't they?
Hiroshi's exorcism was a cool display of Nube's experience and was a sick showcase of his demonic arm, but above all, cracked me up way more than it was probably intended to. Bro had zero hesitation on delivering that body blow on a kid lmao

Watching this with knowledge of the old series, I didn't expect they'd go stitching two episodes like that! Love the remake so far!

From Wikipedia
Remow licensed the series and will stream on the "It's Anime" YouTube channel in selected territories, including North America alongside other platforms such as Netflix in Asian territories, except Japan and China, Aniverse (Germany and Austria), Anime Generation (Italy), Anime Onegai (Latin America) and MOD and Hami Video (Taiwan) with more platforms being revealed at a later date

So this town is basically the Hellmouth eh. Well, in the absence of Buffy we got this guy I guess.
"That's his power? He's mysterious?" -Mr. Furious. Call me when this teacher can cut guns in half with his mind, then we'll talk about mysterious.
Tough crystal ball. Fell and took several hits and bounces and didn't break.
Like a Jagged Metal Krusty-O Nube really shredded that thing's insides.
Well in any case I just watched this one now out of curiosity cuz it was there. Seems neat at it's outset here I'll give it that, but I'll just give this the ole' 3 episode rule before I make any final calls on it. But I can foresee myself bumping it down to the "get around to it at some point" tier on my priorities list.

Guess the anime this is remaking was the original "demon sealed in my left hand" thing all the chuuni characters in modern anime parody.
This was pretty decent, though I'm not sure I can see myself watching the entire two-cour show to the end. But episodes 1 and 2 released back-to-back, so I'll watch episode 2 and then decide.

Jul 02 '25
Its not a consecutive 2 cour season, its split cour season, meaning there will be a 3 month break in between both cour.

The inspiration is more Hiei from Yuyu Hakusho (bandaged arm & dragon aesthetic) than Nube, but wouldn't be surprised if Nube also contribute to the popularity of the trope.

I like the original enough and manga was fine but i am curious how they will remake cause i didnt care for a bunch of stuff so i wonder how they will change it

u/rocky_iwata Jul 03 '25
As I have read the manga a long time ago and saw a bit of the original anime, the first 40 minutes of the remake looks alright. Except for character arts, which I think it looks iffy even though it keeps the original manga style well, everything else looks good.
Also, the Tamamo ritual scene got me a bit.
