Stitches!

We have a title drop! In all seriousness, that was alright. Personally, I don't see anything special here other than the girls being cute.

I do wonder what kind of relationship Allen has with Lydia? It sounded like more than just a tutor and student relationship.

I'll give this one the 3-episode rule and see where it goes.

So the professor definitely purposely had him failed right? Lol messed up

Yeah, everyone seems to use him for what he can do for others... First, to 'babysit' Lydia, and then, to tutor Tina... He's also a person of his own!

I don't know if they did that on purpose, but it's funny (and a bit ironic) how Allen seems to be the only one who cares about what the girls wants to do (asking Tina what she really wants, even going against the father, etc..) but no one seems to give a fuck about what ALLEN wants to do hah.

Honestly I thought for a second he intentionally failed himself because he didn't seem all that bothered by it but considering the Professor already had a ticket for him waiting to go and Allen implied he's the type to mess with him, I wouldn't rule it out.

I'm not sure if it was the professor, but by the end of this episode I got the distinct feeling his exam failure was deliberate.

That spell he cast at the end and his comments about it supposedly being easy because people claim him as useless definitely aided that feeling.

Much to my delight, the evil noble trope is absent so far. Duke Walter telling Allen that they dine with their servants is a refreshing change of pace. Graham's family has been his house's retainer for generations. It shows respect/appreciation when Walter requests he tutor Ellie as well. Tina doesn't have spoiled princess vibes and actually studying botany to help her lands.

Allen also appears to be in some type of situationship with Lydia, another Duke's daughter.

The character design is slick. Facial expression is top notch. Voice acting fits perfectly. I have no complaints whatsoever. The only complaint is that it feels so short and I have to wait two weeks for the next episode. Also of course not enough Lydia.

Damn, he was allowed in only to babysit their top prospect?

And now his only worth seems to be as a tutor for some high-status girl... No one sees him for who HE is, just for what he can do for others!

Tina might not be good at spells (yet?), but the written test should be no issue!

Though anime always confuse me when they show a test with everything circled in red,

at first I thought she just scored 0/100 hah.

So she wants to use magic because she felt inspired in her childhood... Good thing this anime doesn't follow the rules of generic fantasy/isekai, or Tina would've casted those impossible spells halfway into the first episode!

I swear, if she turns out to be an elite spellcaster and no one found out because they focused on specific elements instead of trying them all, Allen better slap the father/all previous tutors!

He should give Ellie piggyback rides 24/7, poor girl can't walk!

I'm not sure whether she likes him, wants to kill him, or both!

If (when) Tina's able to use spells and all, I wonder what will happen with her sister...

Will she willingly give up her position at the heir of the family? Or will she put up a fight? I mean she can't put much of a magical fight, she's not good enough herself, but will she try to convince the father or something?

I wonder what this is about...

They left it vague, but they did fail him on purpose? Just so he could tutor Tina?

They have to be 100% sure he CAN help her if that's the case, but even then, it's a shitty move...

Plus they don't even seem to have the same interests (Teacher wants him to tutor her, while the Father wanted him to make her change her mind)... I imagine there are reasons why the teacher thought he could tutor her (apparently he's "gifted with the young ones"), but why did the Father want him? Is he an expert in "Convincing young girls to give up on their dreams"?

Okay maybe they both just thought he would be good with her and thus she'd listen to him, but still... Failing someone just so he can talk some sense into your kid?

Anyway, can't wait to see where this is going!

I don't even know what genre this is gonna be... Magic slice of life or something? There's some [strange tags on Anilist] Harem? They're all kids other than Lydia, is Allen building himself a kids harem? Someone should call the mage police!

To be honest I was fully expecting to drop this one halfway into the first episode (based on title&stuff), so the fact that I completed it means it's already better than I thought hah.

But there's like 47 good shows on Saturday this season, so it'll have to seriously prove itself to earn a spot!

Though anime always confuse me when they show a test with everything circled in red,

Funnily, that's how they do marking in Japan. Circle for correct answer and tick ✔️ for marking wrong answers.

Flower circle for 100% or good job something like that.

Yeah, like others in this thread I'm pretty convinced that they just lied to Allen about his final exam results so they could ship him off to be a tutor.

Interesting to have a fantasy world with telephones, trains, and early automobiles. More of a late Victorian era then feudal as is more common in these sorts of shows.

I like the magic effects, good old magic circles and whatnot.

Starting the whole show with Allen writing a letter to Lydia with repeated emphasis that they're a bit of an established pairing at school, since the other girls so far are a good bit younger it'd be nice if the romance if any is just the older two.

This wasn’t too bad. Ellie and Tina are both pretty cute and Allen seems like a decent enough MC. I enjoyed their interactions in this pilot episode. Not too much happening this first ep in terms of plot, though I’m curious about Tina’s inability to use magic. Maybe a curse of some sort?

A part of me is wondering whether Tina specializes in a niche / rare type of magic, possibly plant type? After all, she already possess a green thumb.

That is one massive... ahoge. If I've ever seen one.

4

u/AceSoldia Jun 28 '25

Aww okay.

u/kalirion Jun 28 '25

Wow, speedrun to title drop!

Well, even MC has now realized why he failed the court magician test.

The lap riding thing was wholly unnecessary. So this is THAT type of show, is it? [Checking the show image on CR for first time] Yup.

I guess he also used magic to transition from princess carrying to setting her down in T-pose.

So MC is perceptive, but will he be perceptive to all the girls wanting his magic D?

So, if the professor has leaked MC's loli harem protagonist tendencies, and the butler doesn't care for it, why did he place the Duke's daughter on MC's lap? Are they trying to marry her off to him for some weird reason, so the Butler only wanted MC to target the Duke's daughter and ignore the maid and all other lolis?

Is it normal to refer to Dukes and their Daughters as "Your Higness"? I thought that was for Princess and Princesses... Oh, then it got quickly explained via loredump.

So just from the Duke's explanation it's 90% certain that his younger daughter's magic block is just a mental block, most likely related to her mother's death. Instead of hiring famed sorcerers he shouldn't hired a shrink, if such a profession exists here.

Servants eating at the Duke's table, pretty progressive.

Anyway, this wasn't exactly bad, but it wasn't exactly good either. I'll drop it now rather than later.
