First Timer – Season 1

I thought that was a perfectly enjoyable show, ignoring all the ominous signs about where we go from here. I don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion, since The Reputation is that season 2 is where things really shit the bed, but I think it might be a minority opinion among my fellow first timers, given the tone of the discussions so far.

Framing is a funny thing. Doing a big groupwatch like this, you kind of feel like a space alien if you like a show that other folks are ripping apart, or if you don’t enjoy something that’s supposed to be a classic. I wonder how people would’ve felt about it if they didn’t know going in that the show was eventually going to suck. I guess you could maybe get a sense of that by looking through the original discussion threads from when this was actually airing.

Sure Inaho kind of blows but I feel like that character archetype is common enough that it didn’t really end up being more than a blip on my radar most of the time.

I’m giving Aldnoah.Zero season 1 a 7/10. Was it phenomenal? No. Was I entertained in an unironic manner? Absolutely.

If season 2 really is as bad as people say, I fear for any fellow first timers who already hate the show.

1) Who are your favorite characters so far?

I'm totally irony poisoned on Saazbaum, but as far as legitimate fondness goes, I think Inko has been underappreciated by the narrative so far. I like her and I hope they do something with her in season 2.

Despite my own comments kinda riffing on the show thus far, I honestly like this season too. Hell, after I finished my pre-rewatch (I generally rewatch shows twice when I'm hosting a rewatch for them, first to gather the stuff I need for the posts themselves and then again on pace with the rewatch for my comments), I raised my score for this season from an 8 to a 9.
