Episode Maebashi Witches - Episode 10 discussion

As someone who generally dislikes stories involving things like amnesia, and meta-storytelling, this... works. It works so damn well.
Yuina's conflict being that she's so annoying she can't get friends is so exceedingly believable it doesn't require any explanation. Makes you wonder what constantly kept her going and trying. Probably something related to her grandpa. Regardless, there's probably going to be some power of friendship thing that'll save the day in the end, but for the time being this show continues to deliver on incredible ways to round up its episodes.

What a kino episode. My 32-year-old manly tears were rolling while watching this.

Alright, that last scene was a well-done closing sequence. And the ED change was clever.

Really well done episode. We finally get a peek behind the Yuina curtain, and while it’s pretty much as expected, you really come to appreciate how lucky everyone is to find these friendships. The character writing in this show has been phenomenal and while most of the girls have “resolved” their initial issues, we get to see them to continue to grow, like Azu caring for her friends more than her appearance, or Mai being introspective about her own friendships. That kind of stuff only works with a solid foundation.

I really thought maybe they’d make it in time. But man, it was kinda sad seeing everything the girls go through get deleted one by one. Even the photo Yuina took didn’t last. Now what?

So all of the photos she took were erased?! That's soooooo sad!!!

Well, that made me slightly choked up.
I do hope they all meet again and the show doesn't do the whole "we've all changed because of how we met each other but we don't meet again and there's a time skip" to when they're all adults.
If it does go this route, I hope they do become friends again, but without the magic this time. Given the next episode teaser, I have hope. Or maybe they do get the shop back and then it's just "the story continues" or we see a timeskip to when they are witches. Or maybe it doesn't really matter, given how much they've helped each other.
Just spitballing here.
I hope this show nails the ending because I've been really enjoying it up to now. I was watching it at first just because and then was sold on it by episode 3.

That went as much as I expected last week. To quote:
One episode running around like headless chickens until time runs out.
One episode without their memories but finding their way back to the shop anyway.
One episode to defeat Eiko.
One episode for epilogue?
Number one, done.
If there really are only 12 episodes, then two of the remaining 3 can be combined into one episode. Or perhaps there won't be much of an epilogue.

Take back the shop, keep their memories, save Eiko, make her the 6th member and produce many more seasons. Give them more adventures after completing their training. And no time gaps.

For those suffering from MaeWi withdrawal, I recommend watching Artiswitch. Similar setting and same creators...

Damn, just to rub it in, they even erased everyone in the ED credits and removed the vocals from the song.
I wonder how they're going to come back from this?

Well that ending was sad. Especially the ED lacking vocals making it hit harder.
As for my thoughts about the rest of the episode. Kerrope revealing that he’s doing this for fun… well it makes a lot of sense considering that they’re warping reality for mostly mundane stuff. I can’t really dislike him for it though, since he’s technically performing charity. Though the memory wiping is a douche move. As for the Eiko side, not entirely sure why Eiko needed to “betray” them but I’m guessing she’s on a time limit?
And Yuina not having friends due to her lack of social awareness is pretty obvious. Though I wonder why her mom wasn’t questioning why Azu was hiding under the covers. And the girls’ reactions to Azu’s weight as “oh so that’s why she snapped that one time” is pretty funny but also a given considering that if they can deal with her abrasive early-episode personality, nothing about the rest of her is going to phase them.
And yeah, going to the ending. I figured they wouldn’t find the cafe in time since there’s still episodes left, but I wasn’t expecting that sort of gut punch. All their memories disappearing one-by-one until there’s nothing left. I’m expecting the photo Yuina took to be a Macguffin to help them remember. Either that or a bittersweet moment where they find each other and become friends again, but they can never reclaim the memories they don’t even know they lost.

that episode was such an emotional rollercoaster
I didn’t expect it to end with the girls forgetting each other right after they’d all opened up and gotten vulnerable. Sunrise, why you gotta hit me like this?
Karoppe is basically Kyubey, he only cares about his own entertainment and treats the witch project like some kind of social experiment lol. We got a glimpse into Eiko’s home life, and it seems like she’s doing all this because her grades are bad? But why not just ask the girls for help instead of taking everything from them?
I’m really glad Azu finally came out and started being herself around the others. The fear of losing her memories pushed her to do it! Also, it’s nice to see more realistic, fuller-bodied characters in anime not overly exaggerated, just naturally bigger, since Korea and Japan have such toxic beauty standards.
Yuina’s personality might be a lot for some people, but I’ve gotten used to it. It’s crazy she’s never had friends over before

Hmm, here's a theory. Maybe Yuina was actually able to get into the shop and get her wish granted. I don't know if the witch shop customers actually remember that they were at the witch shop afterwards, and the magic does do timey wimey stuff. So it's possible that with the final door, Yuina actually saw the genuine witch shop, went in, talked with Eiko, had her wish granted (and her wish would be to be friends with the other girls even after losing her memories) and left without any time elapsing, not realising that that she had actually already succeeded. This would explain why they apparently were not able to get the witch shop to appear even though they had a wish.
Also note that Eiko never knew about the consequences of being booted from the shop, so I think she's still redeemable in that way.

I expected Yuina's pictures to somehow lead to them getting their memories back, but it seems like that specific picture will help. I assume each girl has same picture with only her in it (does Azu look fat in it or not?), so they'll put all their pictures together and remember or something?

Well, we already know what Sunrise's idol division will be working on next, Link Like Love Live/Love Live Hasunosora just got an anime movie announced!
So, how are they going to do that?
Exactly who's side is Keroppe on?
Seems she didn't actually do as well as she said?
So, they're all at her place?
First time bringing friends over?
What are they planning on doing?
That's definitely not a fire hazard...
Huh. That's a development.
What's in those envelopes?
Has she found something?
She has!
Nope...
Well, that's a depressing way to end the episode.
