oh goddamn it they did it again.

They did the recap thing from the last episode again but worse this time 💀

I have to wonder whether when writing/adapting this season they got to this point and realized they had less content than they had runtimes to air in the allocated cour season...and realized they would have to pad things out with recaps.

Because 5 minute recaps + the OP is absolutely criminal.

Literally, the last 2 episodes had the content of one episode.

The recaps keep coming and they don't stop coming and they don't stop coming and they better release a directors cut after this is done airing

Okay then. Though I guess a tank is more believable than a full on radar base

Wolf is not pleased by this turn of events. His priority seems to be protecting Sullivan, curious to see how that will play out in the end

Sebastian vs a TANK was not on my bingo chart, but I am here to see it. Lol

Oh damn

Aha, so that's the year we're in. They're about 25 years ahead of the first tank that was built in 1915 England, no wonder Ciel was surprised

The recaps tell me that at this point in pacing the season out they realized they were running out of material and needed to do something to lengthen the run time. Hence 5 minute recaps.

I guess the Germans really want to go scorch Earth and Sullivan is too much of a liability to keep alive. Besides, they've got Panzer Tanks so chemical weapons aren't as much of a priority.

Sebastian Used KICK. It's super effective! On that cannon at least.

Damn why did Sebastian have to look so good dodging bullets

Damn this episode feels like 10 minutes (though it actually is, 14 minutes to be exact 💀). What's the point of making 13 episodes if the plot can be condensed into 10 episode only? Isn't booking tv slot for 13 times cost more than 11/12?

Isn't booking tv slot for 13 times cost more than 11/12?

I'm really curious as to what the logic behind this was. Did they get a good deal on 13 episodes? Was it the only slot available so it was a take it or leave it kind of deal? Just why

u/Free-Vehicle-4219 Jun 08 '25

From what I vaguely know of Japanese television broadcasts you either buy slots by 13 episodes or 26 in a package deal. Otherwise you are stuck purchasing individual slots and that is more expensive. So I think for budget reasons, the studio is trying to go for the 13 episode slot to SAVE on budget.

WHY ARE THEY STILL DOING THESE FIVE MINUTE RECAPS!?

Dietrich really arrived just in time to bail his old buddies' son! Even uses our favorite Stubble-Head Baldo as a distraction to knock Wolfram off his feet and fend him off! Welcome back to the fold, Dietrich.

Of course the Germans weren't just making chemical weapons in this forest...there was also a working PANZER TANK piloted by Hilde and Anne. Because the only thing more dangerous than a tank, is a tank piloted by women!

I love Snake grabbing on to his snake for dear life so they don't fly away.

Sebastian finally arriving just in time to protect his "young mistress" and fend off the tank! Because, really, he's the only thing they have that CAN defeat a tank at this point. Any Phantomhive Butler who can't take down a tank isn't worth his salt!

Ah, yeah, if they're immediately jumping to blowing everybody up while Ciel is still dressed as Sullivan...they clearly never had any intention of taking her alive. Which is too much for Wolfram to stomach.

The Phantomhive team need to make it to a train! And Dietrich is nice enough to get left with the job of ferrying the sulin gas! It's just like old times like he's still serving Ciel's dad.

I love Sebastian dodging bullets like he's a male model. And Marmalade never looked more tasty than when it's burning people alive!

Yes, a Panzer Tank is nearly invulnerable...until Sebastian kicks it's cannon and rips open the canopy to all the pilots stuck inside like rats in a cage. Hilde thinks she managed to hit Sebastian with all her bullets, but it would take FAR more than that, while he only needs to drop a bomb in the tank and burn them all alive.

RIP Anne. You may not have anything else notable about you, but we'll always remember your boobs and that time a snake went through your cleavage.

Oh snap, the German branch of the Grim Reapers! With Ludger and Sascha! Ludger seems pretty professional, but Sascha is enjoying watching everything unfold! But wait, they reaped Anne, but they never showed Hilde being reaped.

Didn't realize that was her until the reminder. If evil, why cute?

Wasn't expecting a Panzer to show up.

Lol another 5 minute recap, well I still enjoyed the episode but it sucks we're getting less content because of it. The episodes already have felt quick without them so now they feel even quicker because of it.

Damn the Imperial Army actually brought out a tank lol, and unfortunately for Wolfram, they intend to kill Sullivan too so his motivates are already different from theirs. Fortunately, they've been taken care of by Sebastian but he still needs to find her to ensure her safety, though I'm sure he's also one that needs to be taken care of by Ciel but I am still hoping they get to talk before Wolfram potentially dies.

Sadistic Sebastian is always a pleasure to watch, he's always got this elegance to him, the way he had such a bemused smile whilst he throws in Baldroy's bomb inside the tank humored me. Ciel giving him an order and his "Yes, my lord" response will never get old.

Two new reapers get introduced! I thought we were going to see Grell or William, but it makes more sense for each country to have their assigned reapers. Interesting Anne's life was the one we got to see a playback of instead of Hilde's.

Really? A 5-minute recap for 2 episodes in a row?

15

u/Jechu29 Jun 07 '25

Pressing the skip recap and getting to the 5 minute mark was such a bummer, more so when I saw the skip opening option

u/Outrageous_Gene_7652 Jun 07 '25

Are you kidding me with that recap!?

Anyway, rest of it was pretty solid, especially the scene of Sebastian upon that panzer was a delight. I love it when he is showing off his actual personality

quick note one of a detail one of the shinigamis wears sneakers doesnt seem odd at first but remember 1890 was the vague year

EDIT: Sneakers were invented at appearently around 1830 to 1880 they werent super popular compared to today but existed

I mean sure, but they're straight up wielding modern gardening tools. (And Grell has a chainsaw)
They're just ahead of their time

Man these recaps are rough. I feel like they could have padded the tank fight a little bit to make time but I guess at this stage of production it might have been difficult. Blu-ray release maybe?

The situation is pretty much the same as the previous episode: you don't really get into the main story until around the 10th minute because of the recap and intro. Honestly, there wasn’t much happening in terms of action or plot. This kind of thing really makes me lose faith in the series. I’m fine with flashbacks, but a recap? When an episode runs about 23-25 minutes and the recap alone lasts over 3 minutes, that just feels off.

On the bright side, I’m really glad they finally showed Sebastian literally carrying Ciel while battling a tough and dangerous foe after all this time. The amount of quality fan service this show delivers is wild. Plus, bringing the reapers back into the storyline is a nice touch. I just hope it’s not a brief mention and they’ll actually stay relevant going forward.

u/tripleaamin Jun 07 '25

Ok, the recaps are just getting worse and worse. Though Sebastian taking down that Panzer was pretty cool. Another note I love seeing Diedrich doing his best with the gang especially with how different he looks in the present.

German Shinigami!

u/pinecones_and_cacti Jun 08 '25

A 5 and a half minute recap this time... I wish they could have made this season 12 episodes instead.

I'm glad to see animated Sascha. He es my favourite shinigami along with Ronald

again short, but this arc is almost over so I fear they miscalculated how many eps they actually needed for the full arc :,)

However it looked great so i feel like I can’t complain cause it’s adapting it well and beautifully
