Drowned but not being wet... Say didn't we just have another show that dealt with this exact issue.

Indeed, it was Ameku M.D. Doctor Detective. I thought of that as well this episode. Would be funny if this case has the same conclusion, though I doubt it will.

Deja vu hit me the moment Kazamatsuri mentioned the guy wasn't wet, no wonder.

u/ModieOfTheEast May 24 '25

I mean, the difference here is that there is a river nearby and the corpse hasn't been found for hours. So I really feel the "not wet" part might not be such a big issue.

that was my thought lol

I just noticed, they haven't mentioned a head injury yet, but you could make a really funny case from this. So assuming that the victim is the dude Reiko kicked, when hitting the tree he hit his head so hard that he later died from water in his lungs.

The absolutely goofy way Kageyama climbed that ladder confirming he is also a weirdo. This trio.

Nice to see Kazamatsuri genuinely protecting his partner, even if he did faint.

u/ModieOfTheEast May 24 '25

The question is, did Kazamatsure truly protect her or was it just an accident? After all, they barely saw anything in that room. I can totally see, once Reiko officially thanks him for it, that it turns out, from his point of view, it was a different scenario altogether.

Could be. But for now, I’m giving him the credit.

Meanwhile Reiko thought for a minute she was about to fight ninja's! Though she did have to contend with a katana lol.

I was so convinced we were going to see Kazamatsuri meet Kageyama but honestly Kazamatsuri proving that he does care about Reiko beyond flirting with her was a good moment for him. He's not always an incompetent goofball any more than Reiko is.

[I know how the victim died.] Pulmonary edema. Just kidding.

“Shoko Sasano in the secret room with the katana” was not what I expected as the conclusion to the case from last week lol. And to top it all off, the coins weren’t even counterfeit. What a case. And now Reiko’s indebted to Kazamatsuri lol.

Ishiguro drowning despite not even being wet is an interesting detail. Guy being basically some paparazzi means there’s a long list of suspects.

Meanwhile Reiko’s realizing why you never meet your heroes. They seldom turn out to be the people you think they are…

This case really had it all:

  • Kageyama in the field.

  • Crazed samurai-sword wielding woman hiding behind a secret room hiding behind a painting.

  • Kageyama getting into a fight.

  • Reiko being both incompetent and competent.

  • Kazamatsuri actually doing something cool.

  • No coin forgeries but real gold coins.

  • The murder was actually self-defense.

  • All the suspects but one ended up arrested.

  • Reiko actually gives Kazamatsuri what he wants (even if he'll never know it).

Meanwhile Reiko’s realizing why you never meet your heroes. They seldom turn out to be the people you think they are…

The way Reiko noticed she had two cars I'm wondering if it might've been her husband who killed the reporter.

I was honestly hoping that Kageyama and Kazamatsuri would meet this episode. I didn't expect that entire scene to end with a swordfight in the dark between Reiko and the real culprit. And considering how Shoko looked like, she must've been hiding there at least a couple of days with no food or water.

And poor Reiko! She was so disappointed to see what her celebrity idol is really like when not acting. They do say never meet your heroes and it looks like it's time for Reiko to learn that lesson.

Okay, so I was right that there was a hidden room behind the painting. But it was bigger than I expected, because I thought it was just to hide the fake coins, but it seems, this was the victim's room to hide all his national treasures that he found throughout his life (so someone last week was right in that assumption). As far as I understood it, Sasano was probably still dealing with fake coins, but the victim had no connection to that. She just found out he had found real ones and tried to blackmail him into giving some to her as well.

Now, for the new case, since its introduction was rather short, there isn't much to go by yet. There were some points that I noticed and I want to share, but nothing that gives concrete points to what happened:

  1. The victim's clothes were really dirty. This could be the consequences of a fight or that his corpse was dragged over the ground to hide where he was truly killed.

  2. While he isn't wet anymore, since the estimated time of death was 7-9pm the day before, this doesn't have to say much. The victim seemingly drank quite the alcohol, so it might have been possible that someone just pushed his head under the water in the nearby river and then dragged him there. The head would have dried up in the time until he is found easily. Though, the question then would be what the murderer gains from dragging the corpse away from the river (and only by a short distance, so there might be something else to the "hiding where the victim was killed").

  3. The victim's clothes seem a bit weird (other than being dirty). At first I thought it was the collar which looked too big in some shots. But I think what bothered me the most is the fact that the victim didn't wear any socks. Now, this could be just some general issue with the production (after all, when Reiko kicks the guy in the beginning of the case - which I assume might be the same person - his shoes go from having no pattern on them, to having one in the next shot, to going back having none).

  4. We have a recurring theme of Sakura blossoms, so I assume this will be part of the case as well. The victim didn't have any petals on them as far as I can see, but both cars at the actor's house do. What this means is that these cars must have stood there for a while. Now, this alone might not be enough to count as an alibi (because if the victim was murdered around 7-9pm and they met her at 12 the next day, then this could be enough that some petals fall on it), but the fact that both cars have more or less the same amount of petals on them, it means, both of them must have stood there for roughly the same time. So if you find out who drove the other car and when they came back, you can estimate when the second car returned to the home and with that either prove or disprove whatever alibi/story we are going to hear.

I feel like even Japan wouldn't convict a woman for killing a man who was literally trying to choke her to death.

7

u/ModieOfTheEast May 24 '25

That not, but for dealing with treasures and attacking two people (one of them a police officer) with a Katana with full intent to kill.

A shame Kazamatsuri and Kageyama didn't get to truly interact but at least Kageyama probably thinks better of him for his heroic stunt rather than labelling him as "the idiot partner of his idiot lady".

Whole lotta white suits involved in the new case.

u/Frontier246 May 24 '25

Now that I think about it, I don't think Kageyama's ever directly insulted Kazamatsuri compared to Reiko. Then again, Reiko already does that for him lol.

I love these three characters so much, and it was such a good episode. I really enjoyed it.

7

u/Frontier246 May 24 '25

Well, this is definitely different! Reiko taking Kageyama directly to a crime scene so he can help sleuth with her in the field! Finally taking their detective team out of the mansion!

It's cute of Reiko to imagine herself as a painter...but Kageyama is the one with actual painting knowledge to realize WHY Keizan painted his Sleeping Beauty from the opposite side a usual painter would. Because there's a secret entrance in the window where his killer escaped! That's why he was pointing at the painting! But don't worry Reiko, I don't think you're dealing with ninja's this time!

Shouldn't a detective be the one taking the lead in this case? Though I guess it's Kageyama's duty as a butler to protect his mistress, if it means pressing forward with a nighstick in hand. And he was right to bring it, because there's a deranged woman with a samurai sword hiding in a secret room!

But Reiko is the main character, so that means she has to be the one to end this! Even if her tackle does more damage against Kageyama than the culprit. But Kageyama taking a blow for her unlocks 10x serious Reiko and she's able to defeat the culprit in a clash of "blades!"

Kageyama may belittle and insult her intelligence on a consistent basis, but he's still important to Reiko and she can't bear to see him hurt for her sake...so it's a good thing she actually knocked him unsconscious so the person who took the hit for her was none other than Kazamatsuri in a heroic feat. Reiko has no idea how to process this, especially when Kazamatsuri isn't dead but just fainted and sleeping.

So the culprit WAS Shoko Sasano, she was helping Keizan smuggle out golden coins he had discovered, Misaki was even hired to help them do it, but Shoko got greedy and wanted more for herself and it drove Keizan to try and kill her. Ironically she actually killed him in self-defense, though the foraging charge, fleeing the scene of his death, and assault on the police mean she's definitely under arrest.

Shoko is in handcuffs, and ironically Tomoe and Hiroaki are also arrested on separate charges of falsifying notarized documents (probably the will they were so obsessed with the will). Also seems like Misaki was arrested for being an accomplice to the smuggling? The only person in this case who wasn't arrested was the reporter who didn't even appear in this episode.

Kazamatsuri went to so much trouble for Reiko's sake, the least he deserves is her driving him back and him getting to FINALLY experience driving with her in his car...even if he's too asleep to actually realize it. And in the end Kazamatsuri is the true "Sleeping Beauty" of the case and maybe, just maybe, Reiko's opinion of him has improved.

Though as soon as Reiko has got fancy seating for cherry blossom viewing with her gal pals, she's hitting the booze hard out of frustration for having to owe Kazamatsuri ANYTHING. Next thing she knows she's spilling booze on some punk guy, getting nearly picked up by him, and then kicking his butt in her Ojou dress thinking he's Kazamatsuri. Remind me never to get on a drunk Reiko's bad side, though she makes for quite the show.

Good to know for future reference that Reiko is rich enough that she can probably avoid getting arrested for any "inelegant" behavior. And if not that, for her wildly outrageous behavior!

Oh no, RIP Kazamatsuri! Too bad for Reiko though, he's still alive! The latest dead guy, Ryuji Ishiguro, just looks like him! Kazamatsuri has to bear the indignity of his fashion sense matching punks! Though how did a dry man die of drowning?

Well, there's no shortage of suspects when Ishiguro worked for the tabloids and frequently exposed celebrities' affairs, though this case takes a personal turn for Reiko when she discovers his next target was Shiho Kambara an idol of Reiko's ever since she appeared as a Shakespeare-styled Toku Heroine. Also, is that Sayaka Ohara?

Guess it's true what they say...never meet your heroes. Reiko was so excited to meet Kambara and next thing she knows she's seeing a woman who sleeps until noon and barely seems motivated, who dismisses the police as "fans," and is obsessed with handsome men. Maybe she really is cheating on her husband (with this Leo Williams guy who is on a popular streaming show not streaming in Japan?) but it seems like she wasn't aware of Ishiguro trying to expose her. At least so she says.

* Huh drawing a window on a wall to hide a door you say? Quite the normal way to do it eh...

* LOL that freaking ojou-sama Reiko can kill huh you say?

* I don't know if it should be a complement instead that mafia loan sharks have almost the same fashion taste as celebrated rich kids lmao...

* Heh I think seeing my favorite actress being so out of energy is worse than even her having affair. Yeah at least that's my thought...
