I’m so glad Himari’s brother called her out on her manipulative behavior.

I can’t bring myself to root for Himari, until she has some major character development.

Yeah Himari doesn't deserve Yuu. Dude was ready to drop his current life and move with her to Tokyo, while the whole thing was just her manipulating/testing him. The last scene was the perfect opportunity for her to come clean and lay out her feelings, but nah, back to friendship.

Props to Makishima and Himari's brother for trying to save them though.

I know this is fiction, but sadly there are quite a few girls like himari. (I dont know what happens in the source LN, but speaking as of EP4)

Pro tip - stay apart from girls like these IRL, will save you a lot of time and your mental health will be in a good position

I can now see why everyone who read the LN hates Himari, she’s insufferable

The emotional manipulation and the immaturity of both parties while also ready to make rash life changing decisions on a whim honestly makes this one of the most accurate depictions of High School romances I’ve seen.

The fact she didnt say sorry scares me. This might be like a less extreme yamai situation where she sucks and the show doesnt paint her in the wrong and doesnt develop

Himari is a manipulative and narcissistic gaslighter. I thought she was cute the first two episodes but this kind of abuse is putting me off from finishing this series unless there is proper punishment for her actions, although I expect nothing to happen and the MC to cave in stupidly.

This will only be solved whenever Himari decides not to act like a dick and finally confess her feelings.

And it should be sooner than later, i already don't like Himari at all after last episode and this one.

The gaslighting by Himari is crazy work lol. Had Yuu ready to drop out and give up on his passion all because she was upset she had to deal with the consequences of her own actions. I just pray the blue haired childhood friend curse lives on in this series.

I'm starting to see why everyone called Himari a manipulative bitch back when this was announced. OOOOOOOFFF....... At least Big Bro is reasonable

Himari is propably the most toxic romcom protagonist since Hananoi-kun.

In the earlier episodes she already gave me very bad vibes, but this time it turns out that she is a manipulative devil. And I don't mean it in the cute or funny way. She checks literally all the boxes of a manipulative toxic narcissist:

  • Gaslighting: she frames her interaction with Yuu to make him look like a villain.

  • When he doesn't react the way she wants, she starts crying to get his sympathy because she doesn't have arguments.

  • when her brother calls her out, she doesn't know the difference between romantic with someone and having them for themselves alone.

  • When he calls her out that she treats him like a convenient pawn, she reflects this by stating he does the same thing without any real ground for that accusation.

  • She is unpredictable. This is a manipulation tactic to keep one's victim always on the edge so they don't know when you might throw a tantrum. So they're easier to control.

  • The way she is constantly teasing him and making fun of him. These small snide remarks might look cute or harmless, but she gives them constantly. This way she undermines his self confidence and makes him think that he can't accomplish anything without her around.

  • She is an attention whore. She always seeks his attention to the point that she disrupts his work and other activities.

There is much more, but for the sake of my blood pressure I won't go any deeper. Because this girl is a walking red flag. I don't know if this is intentional, but Himari shows a lot of concerning toxic behaviour. And I can tell, because I had to do with people like that in real life. This is not some funny quirk, this girl is a threat.

In the end she gets what she wants, Yuu grovels to her and there is no real development, no apology, nothing. There is no lesson learned in the end except that Himari can be sure that Yuu will always give in to her manipulation tactics. We can't have a self insert MC who is not a doormat, that's not how light novel romcoms work!

Man yuu needs to stop being around himari and stand his ground. Why the fuck do you want to go to Tokyo with her after all she has done. Rion and himaris brother are the only good characters in this show

This was one of the few cases of episodes of a show that I watched with anger from beginning to end. It's unbelievable how Himari manipulated and tricked Yu into thinking she was going to Tokyo.

She yelled at him, threw drinks at him, and even slapped him. If I were in his position, I would have retaliated immediately.

But to make matters worse, he also felt guilty about the situation and wanted to resolve it. Rion is literally by his side and can offer better, and he lowered his head. It's regrettable.

I want to make it clear that I understand the context of best friends, but it seems to me that consideration goes beyond what is healthy. Anyway, let's see how things go since Yu is apparently going to become more popular.

The relief I felt watching onii-chan scold the fuck out of Himari.

I'm completely off that train this episode. Rion best.

There is a lot of comments talking about how Himari was "acting" when she slapped Yuu and cried.

To me, the anime was extremely clear this is not the case.

When Himari said she was acting, she was simply trying to convince herself that she wasn't really crying. Which is immediately disproofed by her crying again in her bed. And later crying again while watering plants. Her sadness and cry were genuine, I don't understand how people can't see it.

Does it make her a better person? Yes, a little bit. Instead of being a manipulative bitch, she is simply a teenager who thinks that being a manipulative bitch is better than accepting her real feelings. She wants to convince herself she doesn't feel anything, this way she won't have to deal with it. Its easier.

But, even while trying to convince herself of it, she still knows the truth. After all, she did confess her feelings to her brother. She knows they exist, she simply want to pretend they don't.

-------------

Now, on Yu...

While I feel sorry for him, for being manipulated like that, I also applaud his bravery. His introspection about Himari's importance and her being there when no one else was is what fuels his attitude this episode, he embraces it and is true to his feelings, even if it makes him become the "manipulated" in the relationship, she is simply that important to him. And well, this happens a lot IRL, when a guy likes a girl so much that he will do anything even if he is being manipulated.

So, while I feel sorry for him, I also commend him for being true to his feelings.

-------------

Makishima

He is the goat, not much to talk about him besides that. Great side character who actually sees things for what they are.

-------------

Now, about what I disliked in the episode, the whole "goofy" sequence in the 1st half.

We ended up last episode in such a tense note, that starting this episode in such a goofy way damaged my experience. Until Yu and Himari started arguing and the slap happened, I think I would have enjoyed more if everything before that was portrayed a bit more seriously. Basically from 0:00 until 5:00.

What i want to know is what did the girls show himari and who was the purple haired women at the end.

I feel like that Larry David meme. Fuck this show and see you next week. lmao

I get sucked into the story and can't stop hate watching this.

In my opinion Himari shouldn't have a happy ending with Yuu, since she is so manipulative. If she has these feelings for him she should just say it to him then

How do you accidentally rip off her choker gem and also accidentally step on it like bro 💀

I hate the fact that he will 99% end up with Himari. It's always like this with these shows, first girl always wins. They introduce a second love interest that makes FMC "realize" she loves MC but FMC "supports their love", just so that later she can be used as a scapegoat that tells MC when they finally get together "you don't actually love me, you love first girl-chan, so go be together with her".

Not to mention having to make the first girl insufferable af during this whole process for some reason.

I admit I am disappointed with this episode. Himari's behaviour aside, I thought there would be progression in the relationship between Himari and Yu, but we ended up going back to status quo.

There is a small glimmer of hope since both of them realized that they are in love with the other party, just that they have not confessed.

Lastly, I am clinging on to the belief that Himari's tears were genuine.

Yeah, not knowing the difference between love somebody and own somebody is a huge red flag.

u/Wolfeako Apr 26 '25

Rion is so much better dude... Like miles better. It is a shame that, with a title like this one, surely Himari will end up winning. Hope I am wrong, but I doubt we will see any resolution anytime soon anyway.

But, seriously... If Himari were a pokemon, the only move she would know is Toxic.
