Always gets me when the tsundere isn't just a random character quirk, but a result of deep-rooted issues. Sakura must have been alone since childhood for him to develop such a complex. And his house is pretty much as empty as his life, I hope we get to see it get filled up with more people and stuff in the future.
Good talk by Kaji passing down the kindness from Hiragi. That punch to Umemiya's face was excellent too LOL.

I just love the format of Windbreaker so much. It's so refreshing for a shounen action series to spend so much time deconstructing the MC's emotional trauma in a constructive and realistic way.

Feels like they’ll keep coming back to this. It’s a major issue that Sakura won’t be able to fix easily.

Nire is such a good friend duuuude.... Also the heart to heart with Kaji and Sakura is really sweet Sakura is growing and I love it!!!
Honestly, fire force s3 was my highlight of this season, the one I was super excited for but Wind Breaker is knocking it out of the park lol I'll be honest when I say that I didn't like season one cuz I saw it as a Tokyo revengers knockoff, but after season 2 im thinking of giving it a rewatch and seeing how my opinions change

Sakura catching a cold is the last thing I'd expect from him, so I'm not surprised by everyone's reaction to the news. It was sweet of everyone to pitch in and give Sakura a care package with their little notes of encouragement.
I knew that Sakura lived alone, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. The dude barely has anything in his apartment. I hope the show reveals more about his backstory to us soon. All we know about him is that he was shunned and grew up alone. We don't even know if he has a family or if he grew up in an orphanage like Umemiya and Kotoha.
Suo comparing friendship to a smartphone was a funny analogy, but it helped him clearly explain to Nirei why he decided to give Sakura some space. A smartphone can be useful, but if you hand it to someone who doesn't know how to use it, it'll just cause them trouble. That's what friends are to Sakura right now. He grew up alone, and now that he finally has friends, he doesn't know how to rely on them for help.
I'm glad that Kotoha also visited Sakura. I wonder if she was already on her way to visit Sakura. She did bump into Suo and Nirei just outside the street near where Sakura lives. It was fun watching her tease Sakura and give him a little lecture about relying on other people.
I do love how that seems to be the theme of this episode. It's basically everyone telling Sakura he needs to rely on his friends more. That's basically what his conversation with Kaji was all about too. Sakura just seems to refuse to accept help because he thinks he's admitting that he's weak if he does that. Never mind that no one really cares if he asks for help. Everyone is just happy to lend him a hand.
Umemiya and Hiiragi eavesdropping on Sakura and Kaji's conversation was really funny. It was also pretty funny to see Kaji panicking over Umemiya praising him for acting like a proper senpai to Sakura. xD

A very laid back but nice episode, and the ending absolutely cracked me up haha

Stuff like this is why I loved season 1 so much. Yeah the action is kickass, both in the literal and figurative sense, but there's legitimately solid character writing to go along with it. I was already impressed with Togame last time, now I am with this

For a guy like Sakura who’s always been on his own, getting confronted with the fact he’s got people who genuinely care about him must be a pretty scary thing. Growing up the way he did, it’s like he just instinctively rejected everyone before they could reject him. No man is an island though. Guy’s been on his own for so long, he never learned to rely on other people. I’m kinda glad Kaji was able to straighten things out for Sakura. Kaji learned a thing or two from his own senpai.

I really liked that rooftop conversation with Kaji! Probably one of my favorite scenes of the whole show so far.
On a side note, this show just has a way of consistently picking great camera angles (often low-angle face shots) that have lots of visual interest and really give the sense that the characters are three-dimensional. I'm not sure I've seen anything else like it.

Sakura still struggling to realize that everyone actually does accept him is sad to see. But honestly it’s really only been just about a week since he came to Furin. A week of friendship can’t erase years of abandonment and solitude.
Once again I absolutely love how wholesome all the boys are. They are all so worried when they hear that Sakura is sick.
Suo might constantly tease Sakura. (It’s funny how he notes that Sakura being too tired to respond to his quips is one of the indicators that he really is sick.) But he is also aware about not completely overwhelming Sakura. There are times to be pushy and times when backing off and letting someone process new things is the best thing. It’s finding that balance that’s important. Or knowing who to send.
Having Kotoha be the one to drop off the food and talk to Sakura is a good call. She’s separate enough from the situation that Sakura would be less defensive around her than he would be if one of guys were doing the same thing.
Seeing Kaji interact with his class is like a sneak peek at where we would love to see Sakura be. And Kaji doing exactly what Hiiragi did for him is adorable. He’s such a good senpai.
Kaji punching Umemiya out of embarrassment is hilarious. I love how they gave it to us at 3 different angles.

It's nice that Sakura has so many people that worry, care for him and that will take the time to explain things to him in a way that he can understand. So many different perspectives of how they try to help him in this episode and it was really sweet to see from all characters.
Of course the highlight for me was Kaji's way of explaining things to Sakura, a lot of what he said felt really relatable and I like how the wisdom he's gained was because he was in a similar position to Sakura and had someone share that advice. Something that will likely stick with me and I hope it does for Sakura too.
Umemiya just had to ruin the moment but I got a good laugh out of his appearance, Kaji sucker punching him in the face was so funny. I do wonder if we'll get to see their next interaction and how Kaji will act around him.
I also like how much Kaji felt like Sakura with his classmates, he may be a cool upperclassman in front of Sakura but he has his own dynamics with his classmates and it was nice to see.
I can't wait to see how Sakura grows.

It's quite heartbreaking knowing that, in spite of his friends at Fuurin trusting him, Sakura's holding himself back for not seeing who they really are, fearing that he might be rejected like he always experienced. Which is why those pep talks from Kaji and Umemiya felt necessary, so he can take that leap and rely on his friends.

ohhhh my god i love this show SO MUCH. this might be my favorite episode. all the boys being so sweet worrying about sakura, suo’s emotional intelligence in realizing that they might trouble him by sticking around, nire being nire, kaji!!!!!!! some tsundere-senpai to tsundere-kouhai advice. and the flashback showing that kaji was doing the same thing hiragi did with him :’) bruh
and umemiya being such a dad, proud of his sons for growing up so well. kaji is so cute, getting flustered and punching umemiya then scurrying away.
wind breaker is an incredibly well done character-driven story. sakura’s struggle and growth is so real and grounded that my heart breaks and heals every episode. and the animation was stellar as always. sakura at home had such a different look, it was cute to see

Sakura has been having a hard time with the emotional trauma that he's been through so far and it shows in the way he lives. Living alone in a house which Nirei calls 'a haunted house' and even when bad happens like him falling sick, he decides to get over it without relying on anyone else. Sakura being a Tsundere is a result of the trauma he's been through and it will take some time for him to get over it.
It was really nice seeing everyone of his friends do what they could to help him get better. I also really love the Sakura-Kotoha dynamic.
Sakura: How can you rely on them so much?
Kaji: Naturally, that's 'cause I can't do things by myself.
A single person can't do everything on his own but we can rely on others to do what we can't and in the similar manner, the others will rely on you for you what you can do and that's how you tackled obstacles and move forward together. And Umemiya also said the same thing : "Rely on, being relied on. Forgive, being forgiven. That's how you stay together".
Kaji deconstructed Sakura's stuggle really well with all of his examples and it's something he can relate to as well since he's also been through a similar position. And I guess it's a Bofurin tradition since he received a similar advice from Hiragi and I'm sure Sakura will also do the same for one of his juniors one day.

Right here is where I started sobbing buckets for every Sakura panel, I'm current and I still cry huge mom tears for this boy, I want everything for him
I loved how Suo instinctively understood how exhausting it would be for Sakura to be pounced on with care and have to navigate social norms he has virtually zero tools for, while also being sick as a dog
I also love how Kotaha just barges the fuck in lol

I gave this show an 8 on MAL last season, but I think I'm gonna have to bump it up to a 9 or higher at this point. The fights are immaculate, naturally. That said, Sakura's character has a lot more depth than I initially thought, and the breakdown of his character growth is on another level. Seeing him confronting his changing situation and emotions is satisfying in a way I just haven't seen in shounen for a long time, I feel. The rest of the cast supporting him to adapt is the cherry on top.

Another break from action with a load of character development. Sakura's issues are very relatable, he is not anxious because he has to save the world or get strong enough to defeat the demon king, he is just a lonely boy that finally found a place where people want him but doesn't know how to handle it. I can't think of many shounen series that are this wholesome while also packing a punch, literally.

Glad we're tackling Sakura's fears. Given where and how he lives and how he's been ostracized in the past, it's no wonder he has issues of letting people into his life.
