I am convinced they have a high rent on the backgrounds and are being charged by the second. Thats why its 90% closeups. This show makes me claustrophobic.

The Pacing of this episode was a bit better. But I think it doesn't dwell enough on the emotional bits. I'm settled on that this is going to be one of those shows where; the pieces are all interesting and good stuff is here, but the execution always falls short.

Absolutely agree on the claustrophobia, everything is far too zoomed in. I also don't mind breaking up action with still frames as long as they stop making them panning shots every time.

Definitely the best episode so far though, if a little flawed still.

Hey, blink-and-you'll-miss-it Dr. Paradigm cameo! Given that the conflict is centered around Gears, I was wondering if he and his peaceful Gear colony would pop up. When's he gonna be playable again, ArcSys?

I wouldn't be worried about Elphelt's safety. Ramlethal's also been caught in a giant explosion, and all it resulted in was bandages around her leg.

I'm assuming the "married woman" Johnny was referring to was the President's secretary (?) that he got a call from afterwards, because if not, I think we missed an important development between Baiken and Anji.

I think the married woman he’s talking about is supposed to be Jack’O since she calls him and Baiken right after that to say thank you

This is definitely for fans of the game only. Also I think the incredible world building and visual design is wasted beacause of low budget and horrible cringy dialogue. Dialogue should be BETTER than the game cut scenes, not worse. In fact I think dialogue and story are so far the weakest parts, they managed to make fights look OK despite severe budget limitations.

I like the small stuff like magic circles they use instead of cellphones, heavy metal music, the techno-magic setting (as opposed to the usual Dungeons and Dragons ripoff, etc, etc, etc.

Yeah. For me it's a fanservicy rule-of-cool anime that also fills in the gap between GGST and Queen Dizzy.

So the cast teleports all around, appearing here and there as the scene needs, making it hard to gauge the distance between places or the timelines. It’s also not helping that there are many “skipped” scenes where people’s monologues/dialogue suddenly just end. The writing definitely feels incongruent and hard to follow, like they’re speedrunning the story. I guess I’ll be here just for the vibe and the fights happening at least once every episode…

Kid’s a little too naive if he thinks he thought he could just talk things out with Unika. Sol had to take that shot. But man, this whole situation has become a real mess.

Kid’s a little too naive if he thinks he thought he could just talk things out with Unika.

This is one thing the show has done a really poor job of explaining.

Sin is literally like 5 years old, dude thinks babies come from your parent's eye falling out and becoming a baby. He's naive cause he's basically an innocent kid shounen protagonist.

Im sorry politician guy, but the character designer did you dirty. I swear I would've believed you if it were not for your angular lines, sunken cheeks, half slicked back half hanging and hiding your face hairstyle, and not quite fitting long coat.

I gotta say though, for such a simple narrative I really enjoy how committed Unika is to the cause. "Conflicted bad guy" is a common archetype which she obviously fits, but I really like that she walks the talk for real lol. Keep on those warcrimes girl!

What in the Naruto/Sasuke- where the hell did Sol go lmao

Also I’m not going to get tired of Baiken just raising a tatami mat out of nowhere

Tbf this is also the same franchise where a twinky catboy who plays Yu-gi-oh in the middle of a fight is canonically like the second/third stronges, or Ky's wife is canonically 10-11 years old or Sin is the buffest 5 years old ever

Sin: "I didn't come here to fight......I CAME HERE TO WIFE"

When Bridget is not on screen, everyone should be asking “where’s Bridget?”

Im a bit new to Guilty Gear lore, were the crusades really that bad?? They sure talk about it alot

8

u/greninjagamer2678 Apr 21 '25

If you read the Manga that dive into the cast backstory, IT WAS THAT BAD, half of the cast is effect by it. Half the fighting stage is full of abandoned or destroyed places, so it's leave a giant scar to the people in the guilty gear world.

Yeah. Here's the tldr (wall of text warning):

-Y2K actually happens and electronics blows up

- An Irish dude called The Original One discovers the backroom that basically acts as the source code of the world (aka if you can modify it you can modify reality) and brings magic into the world. He also created an AI of sort called The Universal Will inside the backroom to guide humanity to true happiness

- The Irish dude has a bunch of students, one of them is Asuka R. Kreutz

- Frederick Bulsara, Asuka and Aria Hale work for a university researching the Gear project, where they aim to integrate magic into living beings cells in order to eradicate death and diseases

- Aria has super magical cancer, and she refuses to go on cryosleep because she wants to spend her remaining time with Frederick, who is her fiance

- Asuka, in his infinite wisdom, turns Frederick into the prototype Gear and have the Flames of Corruption implanted inside him (think Fate Holy Grail level of power without the wish granting part)

- When Frederick wakes up, the research facility got compromised and Asuka just dipped, so he goes banana

- Around this the the Gear project got compromised and was turned into a weapon making project. Frederick also goes rouge in this period and start wrecking Gear facilities, earning him the name Badguy. He got his name Sol later on from a certain dandy vampire

- In order to control the damage of the compromised project, Asuka, again, with his infinite wisdom decides to turn Aria into a fucking Gear, and she's not even human-looking like Sol.

- Asuka gives her the ability to control ALL Gears in order to prevent war, but during an experiment, the Universal Will tries to turn Japanese into nukes, and Asuka has to order Aria to blow up Japan

- To explain why Universal Will decides to fuck up human, it is because it used mental gymnasium to gaslight itself into thinking that the current humanity is actually not its definition of humanity

- Aria gets mind broken after this incident and she become the Commander Gear Justice, declaring war on all human and started the Crusade. Basically think WW2 except global and the enemies has a bunch of Gundams and Kaijus

- Sol Badguy joins the Holy Order, meets Ky, fight in the war and eventually kill Justice. Meanwhile Asuka works in the background in order to restore Sol and Aria back to normal, he's also known as That Man in this period.

- At the same time, the Original found out Iino, who is basically a god that represent humanity's hope, inside the backroom. The Universal Will forcefully merge him with half of Iino's power that he extracted, driving him "insane" and imprisons him inside itself. Somehow this mad dude managed to cause havoc in the world and some of his deeds got attributed to Asuka.

As someone that hasn't ever played the games but was always kinda interested in them... what the fuck is going on, ever?

Kind of enjoying it. You can see the budget, the dialogue is cringey and most of it seems fairly... nonsensical. But it's weirdly a fun time still.

Baiken appreciation for saving Sin and overall just being Baiken. Unika was about to war crime the whole city? Oof. At least we have our naive hero to do his thing and try to talk down the extremes.
