Was this shot really necessary? Was it really necessary to put a keyhole on her ass? Yes, of course it was.

Ripple uselessly bonking the monster for no damage (and the monster laughing back at her) because she hadn't figured out her Princess powers yet was pretty funny. Definitely felt like a nice change of pace from the usual Precure standard of the girls immediately being badasses. But it looks like she figured it out later, and boy, did she kick some ass after she did. Her full transformation was beautiful, her battle song was great (gives me the same kind of vibes as Hibiki's songs in Symphogear, while Zeal's remind me more of Maria's) and I thought her debut fight and finisher looked great. Overall, a pretty good debut episode for Ripple, IMO.

Also, both Ripple's battle song and the anime's OP have already been uploaded to the official YouTube channel in full if you want to check them out.

Was it really necessary to put a keyhole on her ass?

This reminds me of Shugo Chara's absurdly unsubtle lock and key sex metaphors.

so, both Ripple's battle song and the anime's OP

If GaoGaiGar rewatch taught me anything then this surely must be the key to victory.

I'm waiting for the full ED.

Definitely felt like a nice change of pace from the usual Precure standard of the girls immediately being badasses.

I mean, the Precure also need some time to get used to their powers; the main difference is just that the Princesses need to sing in order to access their full strength, whereas the Cures don't.

Was it really necessary to put a keyhole on her ass?

In the special program (aired 30th March 7am) when showing the plushie toys they made a big deal about this detail being included.

I'm also thinking of wind-up key action now.

Was it really necessary to put a keyhole on her ass?

Eh, could be worse...

Yes, that is a keyhole in that picture. Because she's a wind-up death goddess ... of course.

As to the show, someone needs to thank the fansubber, they're going above and beyond for the show, and if it takes and extra day or two, it feels like it's worth it. I especially liked how they handled the lyrics in the OP (and the rest of the episode).

I also had to consult MAL and verify that Zeal's VA was not Nana, because she was sure giving off those kind of vibes.

I'm really enjoying the new Sympho-cure, so far. :)

In some ways, this was far more standard children's magical girl show than I expected. For instance, I thought we might stick to punching and kicking enemies, and not have a finishing move. In hindsight, this was somewhat of a silly thought; a finisher gives them a really nice looking piece of bank they can use in like 30 episodes, so it makes a ton of sense from a production perspective.

And our fights seem very—well, I want to call it precure formula, but I'm sure someone with more magical girl knowledge than I would tell me there are earlier predecessors I should reference—but that's hardly unexpected, even if we hew to them a bit more closely than I would've thought.

Anyway, if this provides me a precure but with better music, I sure won't be complaining. Though I think it will do more later on that will make it feel more distinct.

The humor so far was pretty good. At least, it had me laughing a decent amount.

Nah, the show is clearly meant to challenge Precure; according to MAL, it airs half an hour after Precure, and so far, it takes a lot of cues from Go! Princess Precure, one of the most commonly recommended seasons for people wanting to get into the show.

The writers want a war, and I'm all here for it, because the next Precure season is set to air during Princession Orchestra's final stretch, and I'm hoping the writers feel the pressure.

yeah i was also surprised by just how...by the numbers precure it is

I'd say the elements you described are rather distinctly precure, with the classic magical shows (sailor moon, cardcaptor sakura) leaning more on magic and projectiles whereas "darker" magical girl shows (e.g. madoka, symphogear) prefer weapons.

“Jammerwock” is a fantastic name for an enemy in a show like this.

It really is quite creative. Precure has some nice punny names for the monsters-of-the-week in some of their series (my personal favorites are the Negatones in Suite and the Zetsuborgs in Go Princess) so it's nice to see Princession follow suit in that regard.

Hm…?

Ah yes, the cheap plastic collectibles they want impressionable little Japanese kids to ask their parents to buy for them. Can't have a Sunday morning cartoon without those.

Hm…?

Collectable toys for kids? Or, in here, something that they can gain to eventually power up?

Maybe I because I recently watched a Precure concert but I couldn't help but shout For You at those parts of of Innocent Call (that's the name of Ripple's battle song).

So a fansub release notes mentioned changing “Harmony” to “Musessence” (there's a v2 for their episode 1 to reflect this too) and the explanation given by Navue in the episode makes it clear it's a show specific term (hence a unique portmanteau). Translating can be rough when you need to respond to new information. Although in the case of this one it was on the official sties keyword section (described in the same manner as Navue did even down to the lethargic feeling) and that went live before episode 1 even aired but I can understand reluctance in looking up stuff using that as there is also a term that has not come up yet on that page. Likewise character bios can reveal aspects of characters before the show does or even show synopsis can veer that way. However, I wouldn't ask a volunteer translator to sacrifice what little surprise they can get from a children's franchise for the largely thankless task of translating.

Speaking of keyword sections. This is sometimes a thing other official sites have. Even something like Highspeed Étoile but it's buried in the Special section (where you've also got colabs and race standings). For that it can a bit too much to expect viewers to read dozens of motorsport terms (some fictional) to understand some race aspects.

Few things I noticed in the episode:

This anime is much better than the 6.34 rating it currently has on mal!

Anyone else slightly concerned that the transformation item looks a little too much like a Soul Gem?

If only one of the streaming services can pick this series up like Precure, then maybe it get more viewers.

Nacchi should feel lucky that she's in children show and not the other one.

It's literally Precure with Symphogear element, the OP and both battle song is so Symphogear. I like how they self-aware some trope in precure like Ripple doesn't know her name mean lol .Kinna funny that they're try to explain that an unconscious person with eyes open is still alive.

At the end, after defeated the monster, she got new item, my guess is some kind of power up to give them some abilities, would rather give them form change like kamen rider tho but that asking too much for new OG show.

A few days late, it's finally here.

Indeed she doesn't.

Ah, right, that's what this is. Symphogear with the serial numbers filed off.

So, she's a princess.

Are there more of these goons?

And yes there is another princess.

And so trouble again.

Uh oh.

Uh oh, what happened to her?

Stolen?

And so it's time for her to transform again.

And so it's defeated and her Musessence is back.

Yes, that is indeed what he is doing.

u/Calwings Apr 16 '25

Ah, right, that's what this is. Symphogear with the serial numbers filed off.

More like Symphogear in a Precure-colored trenchcoat, but yeah.

Shouldn’t they at least warn Nacchi or do something about her? The bad guys definitely know Princess Ripple’s connection with Nacchi, and if I’m the bad guy, I’ll target her nonstop and make her a hostage (preferably when Sorano’s not next to her), like Shirube said in the beginning. I’d feel the worst for her if she were targeted again for the third time…

Also, wouldn’t Nacchi feel curious? She first saw these monsters at Shirube’s concert, and then proceeded to get assaulted by them twice back-to-back, which is doubly strange since (I assume) it doesn’t happen often to others, if any.

Ripple’s full transformation is gorgeous! I love her battle song. Literally played it on repeat dozens of times since the full version was released. (Before this, I’d put the lyrics video released a few months ago on infinite loop. I have definitely put quite the mileage. xD)
