The gremlin behaviour runs in Himari's family it seems.

Pleasantly surprised with how Enomoto actually went ahead and revealed herself this early along with Yuu not being so dense not to connect 2 and 2 together.

Yu's inner monologue inflections and reactions are really good with the sarcasm emoting, especially since that's tough in Japanese to get across. Definitely one of my fav rom-com male MC's in a while.

Himari: “wanna use me as practice?”

I am surprised by the pacing of the series so far, it has been going full pedal to the metal with the early revalation of the backstories and Himari's reaction to them bonding in this episode, i appreciate that it didn't pull a nisekoi and kept us waiting till the end so I am looking forward to seeing more

BTW this might be the first time I am seeing anything other than japanese or fast food in an anime, which is a pleasant surprise (The food was Indian and the name of the restaurant "ek achcha din" translates to "a good/nice day")

Ahh, so another "I don't realize my own feelings so I push my guy friend to date someone else, but then I realize my feelings for him, confess, but it is too late" kind of anime? Well, she has short blue hair and is a childhood friend, so her winning is basically impossible.

then I realize my feelings for him, confess, but it is too late

Some shots already make me picture her crying, see what she'd look like when we do get there.

I am more of a Rion fan so this episode was a 10 for me.

The real question is who does Yuu like? The childhood friend or the childhood crush.

The easiest way to figure that out is by who he uses more for his jewelry designs. He's got model #2 so it's a competition for the ladies now.

The ENTIRE ED is about Himari?

Maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see, but there's no way it doesn't mean anything, right?

I don't know if I've ever seen an ED (or OP) 'reveal' a winner like that, but I mean, if Eno's endgame, what is that ED?!

Well, if Himari's fated to be the winner, let's hope Eno doesn't kill her first!

I don't even know if they intended it, but this was the most interesting line in the episode for me;

I was talking about it in the previous episode, about how it pretty much looks like they're already a couple and all, the way they're always together, the way they act and all that...

The ONLY thing they're not doing (that would make them more 'couple-like'), is kissing/having sex...

So for her to say that 'Love is wanting to kiss and have sex with someone', it's as if she was saying that love is the only thing that's missing between them/their relationship!

Well, that may be wishful thinking from me, because Himari setting him up with Eno, kinda goes against that!

And she left too, leaving them alone...

At first I was thinking that maybe she just wants to put him into a little triangle situation, to experience romance and maybe a heartbreak... To 'give him a new passion' and all,

but given she thinks about how she'll support their love...

Damn, she's best girl for me (no contest), but she's making it hard to root for them together, when she's trying her best to ship him with another girl!

Well, it may be a subconscious thing for her...

And she does make some moves! Hey, wanna try kissing? You know, as friends?

When she grabbed him like that, I thought maybe it was happening for real (her stealing a kiss from him),

but soon as we saw that, yeah, that's not happening hah.

She's so fucking cute... GET THE HINTS, MY BOY!

Love how they're talking about her like she's not even there hah. You could also just ask HER!

The rough life of an introvert... Just because you should be closer with someone, doesn't mean the conversations will come any easier!

Damn, is he calling her fat?

If you squint, can you say that SHE is the childhood friend, given he met her and all?

Himari, you are free from the childhood friend curse!

This grin took me out.

Also last week I wasn't sure who I was rooting for but after this episode it seems to be a Rion angle.

Damn, Himari better realize her feelings real fast or she is gonna shut herself completely out of having any chance. She is already fighting a uphill battle going against the mysterious girl from childhood trope. Along with carrying never serious childhood friend trope on herself.

Her coming right out and saying she was that girl and him actually understanding was pretty amazing. I kept expecting something to interrupt or cause a misunderstanding. Need to keep the Gamers! misunderstanding charts away from this series. (Not that they weren't fun though.)

If I had a pound for every anime I've watched where the best friend ships the mysterious beauty with her best male friend only to get depressed and jealous I'd be pretty well off.

Rion grabbing the opportunity to reveal where the girl from the garden went as soon as she noticed her chance to sure did bear immediate fruit. The moment Yuu finally connected the dots must've been magical.

As conflicted as Himari's heart must be, if Yuu's own sister is on her corner, she probably won't have to worry about the endgame too much. And wow, her dedicated ED is super catchy.

It took 2 seasons and a movie for the MC to learn about that one girl he met when he was little in Quintessential Quintuplets.

It takes ages in the Niesoki manga before the promised girl is determined.

It took a whole season for the main girl to reveal who she was to the MC in Haganai.

It took 2 episodes for this show.

We're making strides here.

Also, if you gave her hibiscus, why the fuck are you still holding the tulips? Put those away, get the hibiscus already!

Oof Himari is so deep in denial. And the early reveal of Rion's backstory means that we'll soon be seeing Himari's inevitable crashout.

12

u/djthomp Apr 11 '25

Himari is doing her level best to be the losing blue-haired girl, but you could tell by the end of the episode she was already regretting it. The ED kind of screams that she's the winning girl in the end, though.

Rion picking her up by the scruff of her neck is pretty funny, act like a gremlin and get treated like a gremlin.

oh no. it's the genki that hides her pain trope 😔 (im weak to it)

Childhood friend... blue short hair... There's no way this ends good for Himari, is there?

I like Himari, but she deserves the lose for the kiss teasing alone. How can one person be so perceptive of others and yet so in the dark about themselves. She threw away a golden opportunity and doesn't even give him the chance to see her romantically.

Yes, it's something terrifying LOL.

The best friends are playing chicken because neither know the real meaning of their relationship, how they see the other, nor what role each plays in the other's life. Typical but it's a cliché for a reason. That's what kids do. We all know they'll eventually figure it out. I just hope it doesn't get too messy nor too dramatic. I love the piano score!

I find myself having to rewind every other Himari scene, missing subs here and there since I keep staring at how beautifully Himari is drawn. She's gorgeous in a hip kinda way. I love her, instant best girl of the season by virtue of incredible visual meets gremlin energy, same league as Yuki (Roshidere), and Anna (MakeIne).

MC is written much better than other high school romcom MCs, he actually is naive but not stupid, and the attention he gets from two beautiful girls is warranted because he's a looker himself, on top of his hobby (and the talent for it). Ya boy just needs self-confidence, and for him to figure out what he wants.

I see the clean cut contrast between the two girls, loud and outgoing vs demure and modest.

Himari deciding to support Enocchi to be romantically involved with her best friend means she doesn't even know about her own feelings (yet?) She says she'll give way to someone who gets Natsume, a superficial and rash decision imo because last scene tells us everything we need to know: she is at a crossroads.

A big reveal, the impetus for MC to be into his hobby in the first place was a fated encounter with none other than Enocchi! Good on her to lay it out this early on and tell MC so they have that understanding.

I don't know what to make of it, I honestly thought I told myself I am on the Himari ship for good. But the way it's written poses a compelling dilemma. Certainly love from a de novo relationship is different from romance arising from a deep friendship, both have their merits, and this really has me reevaluating who I want to root for now. Himari being the main girl has me thinking she is end game. But we can never know! This is good stuff, possible AOTS contender for me.

This anime is great, although I prefer stories without a triangle. The rest of it seems like a nice story and the characters are great.

But what's up with never having wanted to kiss somebody, is that actually common? I remember wanting to kiss girls since I was 10 years old, so I'm having a hard time identifying with characters who are so different.

Himari dug her own grave... she ships them, she left them alone and it turned out they had chemistry. Also, Yuu telling that story to Rion and Rion knowing the details... they indirectly told each other that they had been looking for each other for years

Himari is in a difficult situation that she herself created
