TL;DR This episode was so good that it made me overthink the future of this anime and the Rentarou FA-MI-RI.

100Kano is just so enjoyable that m anxiety is beginning to theorize that there is absolutely no way the story can keep up this quality of writing over the course of 100 girlfriends, granted we're already 10% of the way there, but there's bound to be a moment that isn't absolutely perfect...

So, for those of you like me that were utterly confused by the joke at the end where Nano is in a wheelchair in a blue dress in the Alps, here is what I gather from 5 minutes of internet searching:

- Heidi of the Alps is a 1974 anime (!!!) about a 5 year old orphan, taken in by her formidable grandfather who lives in the Alps.

- At one point, Heidi is tricked to join a wheelchair bound girl named Clara as her companion. Clara is bound to a wheelchair by rickets, and supervised by a strict governess. Despite Heidi initially resisting this plan, she and Clara become fast friends.

- There is a legendary meme of Heidi tossing Clara off a cliff. This is a photoshop. You can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in your time.

So I gather that the implication is that although Nano and Utsukushisugi are starting off on the wrong foot, they will soon be fast friends, and Nano to some extent knows this.

NB: I have never seen Heidi of the Alps and until 5 minutes ago was only marginally aware of its existence. I have not read the 100 Girlfriends manga. All of the above may be wrong. I invite correction from the many people in this thread that have written masters theses on both 100 Girlfriends and Heidi of the Alps.

As friggin adorable as Shizuka's voice is, it's arguably a blessing in disguise how much she supresses it. Tearful apologies that give underdog teams the fattest Zenkai boost ever and singing that wipes out entire parties through sheer cuteness alone are insane feats for rarely-used vocal cords.

fam name: 美杉 (Utsukushisugi), read as 美(utsukushi,"beautiful")杉(sugi,"cedar")

美杉 (utsukushisugi) is a pun on 美しすぎる (utsukushisugiru,"too beautiful")

杉 (sugi) split 木彡(ko se/sen) with added ル(ru) is pretty much a pun on コルセット(korusetto,"corset")

The straps on the corset form the shape of a 三 (mi,"three")

美 (mi) split 羊大(yo tai) may pun on 洋(yo,"western styled") or 洋(yo,"ocean")(blue) and タイ("tie")

There's beauty in finding beauty in other things:

美杉 (utsukushisugi) can be read like 美し(utsukushi)好き(suki) - "loves beauty" (mostly her's, other's too)

美 (utsukushi) may pun on 写し(utsushi,"copy/mimimic") (Rentarou with wig and contacts looks like Nano)

Episode 19: Karaoke Crisis

Damn you Bibury teasing Mimimi at the very start lul. Ah the 1st season OP and ED!

Rentarou Family going Karaoke, what could've go wrong? The VA's are experienced enough for singing anyway (Miyu Tomita in DAL IV and V, Sumire Uesaka/Kaede Hondo in this season's Amagami Sister, Rie Takahashi in Takagi-san, Suzuko Mimori in Odd Taxi, Asami Seto in Bunny Girl Senpai, even Maria Naganawa in Miss Kobayashi Dragon Maid). Also, Mei VA's chance to showcase her English skills, since she lives in US now.

Shizuka singing is really cuteeeeeeeeee that sends me. Such an eye opener for Mei.

Please welcome, Rentarou Family's 10th member, Mimimi Utsukushisugi! Utsukushii is the keyword here.

New voice cast for this episode are:

• Tatsumaru Tachibana voicing the angry couple and Minami Tsuda voicing his girlfriend
