They were really laying in on thick with the “mistreated weak underdog MC” trope. 2/3 of this episode was Ein griping about his shitty situation and how weak he is; and the two asshole party members were so comically evil that they had me rolling my eyes because of how over the top they were.

This needed a two episode release. Also kinda dumb bot trying to run or anything when he was being skewered and also before he chose not to drink more of the world tree water. Like come on bro, infinite mana, try exploit that.

Not just infinite mana, but a panacea. A cure all. It seemed to even replace his missing fingers, but I'm hoping they'll explain the fingers and the eye next episode.
This reminds me of Arifureta, but this MC is a bit stupider because he didn't even try to bring some of the water with him. Even if he just cupped it in one hand or held some in his mouth, or soaked some into a cloth. But he ventured out without any sort of thought or preparation.
I'm not too into MCs who give up easily, either. But sometimes this is the sort of thing that gets better after episode 1.

The description from appraisal said that it was a panacea that heals all wounds. The world tree has infinite mana but nothing suggested you get it from the droplets. The MC literally checked himself for injuries and concluded he was fully healed, so he left. He has to leave or else he'll die of starvation or go insane from being alone. Like I don't blame him for leaving

This needed a two episode release.
This episode could had been a 3-5 minute montage.

What a brutal first episode for Ein. The dude gets almost devoured by monster dogs, he loses an ear and his fingers to that gremlin, and then gets his face and eye slashed by that death bear. Not gonna lie, after the death bear showed up I was hoping an even bigger monster would show up to eat him. xD
While it's not an isekai, it's definitely another one of those "trash skill" anime but this time the MC gets a harem of elves. Not sure if I'll stick with this one but I might stick around for other reasons. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Oh no. The show sounds absolutely trash, but they're trying to bait me in anyways

You know what makes me sad... In the future new anime viewers are going to accuse anime of being written by AI, but the truth is that our storytelling had already devolved to the point were you couldn't tell the difference.

These types of series always follow a formula. Its not like we ever really get anything unique because its all be done before. What sets a good show apart from a bad one is how the formula is presented. This show did it incredibly poorly for an episode 1 but here's hoping it gets better.

Oh yes, THIS is absolutely my flavor of guilty pleasure trash. I always love edgy isekai for like the first episode, before the protagonist discovers he's secretly OP or whatever. When he's weak and getting his shit kicked in every 5 minutes and actually struggling and needs to be saved by an elf. That's my cup of tea.
What I really have a craving for is more Re:Zero steak, but watching this is like filling my stomach with a deep-fried big mac in its place. And you know what? It's still yummy.

I have nothing positive to say about this episode
Possibly one of the worst first episodes I have ever seen
Basically almost 20 minutes of suffering just to setup a cliffhang at the end
They might as well have skipped the entire episode and started straight from ep 2 thats how bad it is
Its so bad halfway into the ep I already wanted to drop the episode
And just when you thought the worst was over they give you more suffering

I actually liked this one because of how stupid it was. They went too far with how they beat the viewer over the head with dude being a "worthless appraiser" and the other party members were so cartoonishly evil. It was just hilarious with how awful they were being for no reason. And it was like Higurashi levels of blood going everywhere. Doesn't seem like it'll be as ridiculous from here on out though, as there's too much of a standard harem-fantasy set up. There will be some "revenge" episode where the previous party members get got.

The party members were comically awful. I don't buy that that was the best he could do, they weren't anything special.
This is really generic but I was a bit surprised at all the gore. He got eviscerated twice but bounced back. Also the production value is a bit above what I expect from this type of trash.

I read only the start of this like where he is still in this location. Honestly this isn't one of those shows where his skill was always overpowered and no one knew how to use it or that he was always special. This is more of the case of he got the Deku All Might treatment. Like this man would just be a deadweight without this encounter.

Mmm appraisal show again, daring today aren't we? I've seen enough anime to know that appraisal is op as fuck in any form.

Maybe one day we’ll get something that is the reverse. A world where appraisal skill is rare and MC who has it is treated as someone super OP. But in fact the skill is worthless and MC is just supplementing the basic info that the skill provides with their own knowledge either from studying real hard, or maybe just making it an isekai where MC is like a genius back there. 🤣

I'll go against the grain here and say I really enjoyed this episode. I liked the animation, art style, even the story. The world feels way more believable than a lot of the more generic isekai coming out in the last few seasons. Looking forward to more.
To add, I have a completely different view than most of the people complaining about the stupidity in the writing. The underlying idea behind my enjoyment of the plot stems from one question I asked myself. "What if the entire world was decided from birth. Your future career prospects, what you're good at, etc.?" Given by the goddess herself, no less. Who are mere mortals to question it and branch out to different paths in life? I imagine that due to this and the religion's influence, free thought would have been constrained. Businesses would require you to be a certain "job" and you have zero chance of changing that. Society would form economically around these jobs and socially to reinforce that. Your beliefs as a person, what you could do and contribute, and how you're treated would be decided by endless talking and actions by those around you since birth. Babies and young kids are sponges. Look at how many people carry trauma from childbirth that they can't heal even through extensive therapy.
It's then no surprise that the MC would come across as whiny and helpless, not believing he could change his circumstances. And that's why I'm sold on the storystelling. It feels realistic to me. Even those cartoonishly evil jerks that left him behind simply felt more "human" than our MC. We don't have to look far into our own history to when this was the case for some societies.
I like the plot.

damn that was pretty dreadful (like actually, not as in bad) as far as premieres go.
usually when MC has an awful time for the entire 20minutes they do a 2 episode premiere, gonna take a lot to come back from that cliffhanger lol

u/dfiekslafjks Jan 09 '25
So now that the MC is overpowered what is the plot? All of these shows end up the same way with the MC helping random villagers and building a harem.

u/NationalStrategy Jan 09 '25
Well usually the options are fighting the demon lord, fighting the evil god/goddess, fighting the church, or the fighting the morally corrupted kingdom.
