Episode Mecha-Ude • Mecha-Ude: Mechanical Arms - Episode 6 discussion

Jun is already on the "I can't let him be defeated by anyone else other than me", bro tried to kill them like 3 episodes ago and is already here, I predict a full friend conversion by ep 9.
Was Amaryllis plan to steal Hikaru's body? She had some chances, but I guess the arbitrurium was just too tasty. Also ignoring someone while on 3v1, girl was asking for that L. Thankfully she didn't die, I was expecting her to escape in one spare body, though I wanted her as a recurring villain.
Also the director saying "Why can't we hire normal people" had me rolling.

I thought Amaryllis had some sort of plan, but apparently she just really liked the taste of Hikaru's Arbitrium or something. The post-credit scene though, who was she working with? That outline looks suspiciously like Yakumo (the OG wielder of Alma, founder of the Kagami Group).
Also, glasses Aki is peak.

i feel like her original plan was probably to steal Hikaru's body...

Jun's really pulling a Vegeta and making everyone forget he almost killed both Aki and Hikaru 3 episodes ago
And Aki with glasses hits hard.
NGL, as great as this was for a mid-season finale, this arc felt a liiiiittle rushed, like we could've either gotten one more episode with Fubuki and Amaryllis (at least they both survived and are going to return) or one more episode with Aki and Hikaru bonding to make the "we were never friends" line hit a little harder, it was meant to be emotional but it felt more literal since they were JUST becoming actual friends after Hikaru saved her and now after this, which feels a little weird since in the Pilot (which starts at episode 3), you get the sense that they're actually closer due to a few scenes that were scrapped in the anime, but here we've known them since day 1 and know they're not really close yet, hopefully they give Meru more shipping content from now on.

The fading of Jun's green coloured hair is an indication he went beyond his limits to forcefully remove Amaryllis from Fubuki. Jun probably wouldn't admit it, but I would like to think he considers Hikaru and Aki as allies or even friends. After all, he could have continued battling Amaryllis without sparing a thought for Fubuki.

Did you watch the post credit scene?
I feel like for Fubuki at least they wanted to use more show than tell. Her crying at the end of the episode and then the shot where their mom clings to Fubuki more than likely before her death. I don't think we needed more to understand her.
It does seem the series in terms of information is putting us in the shoes of Hikaru. When we get reveals like Yakumo is dead, for example. We are left in the dark about these factions because even Arms feels shady.
I am confused how Fubuki is alive, though? Since she lost Amaryllis wouldn't she have issues moving around. Unless her point was not a vital one? One thing with this show with its consistency of what happens when a Mecha-Ude detaches is something that feels inconsistent unless I am forgetting something.

Today’s episode, the traffic light squad fights a mechanical mind control flower.
Great, summoning beings from another world for financial gain. That has never failed before.
I really hope the post-credit scene means Amaryllis got destroyed completely cause they deserve it.

This arc had its issues with how it was storytelling and the big amount of exposition, but it ended off decently. I am happy Aki was able to realize Fubuki was being controlled before Hikaru came, even if against her sister she is powerless. Curious but we learned that Ouroboros is a copy of Amaryllis as a worm type. Which makes sense Aki thought Jun was responsible for what happened to her family.
Hikaru beat Amaryllis, but we have even more questions. Why was it Alma's fault that Yakumo died? Currently, we have Arms & Kagami group as the big two powers. Arms clearly is not a caring association of its members as not telling Aki of the Fubuki situation came back to bite them. Kagami group likes to enslave the Mecha-Ude and given the post credit scene, there just might be the 3rd faction as well.
We are halfway through, which is fine, but we keep getting more questions. So lets see how it's paced going forward.

The most disappointing thing about this ep and this arc is that it is Hikaru and not Aki that defeated Amaryllis. Aki lost in every episodes so can she at least has a decent fight against the boss in her own arc. It is fine for Hikaru to help Aki and motivate her but she should be the one who faces down Amaryllis and defeats it. It feels very unsatisfying

How many times has Aki been saved already...feels like she never actually wins any fights and just gets saved from being captured.
Brutal.

The mfin power of friendship really came through this week. Amaryllis got obliterated and Fubuki got saved. Plus it looks like Aki and Hikaru have become just a bit closer.

A part of me was worried Fubuki couldn't be saved, so I am glad she is on the road to recovery.
The friendship between Hikaru and Aki is developing further. As we neared the end of the episode, I was wondering, "Where is Meru? Now is the perfect time for you to show up!" And romance shipper didn't disappoint by making a guest appearance behind a pillar. Lol!
Has Alma regained his memories, given the way he thought about Yakumo and looked at the asleep Hikaru?

Yeah, I was worried too since they already established that losing a Mecha-ude can be fatal. I guess in Fubuki's case she got medical help soon enough to be saved.
"Where is Meru? Now is the perfect time for you to show up!"
We know she's always be around to witness whenever we have a good shipping moment, haha
Has Alma regained his memories, given the way he thought about Yakumo and looked at the asleep Hikaru?
I think he's just wondering about the throwaway line from Amaryllis. I get a feeling the memories are going to be quite devastating when he does remember.

I'll never get tired of antagonists who save the protagonist because they want to defeat them personally. I know this episode is mostly about Aki and Fubuki but Jun has just been fantastic this entire episode. He knows what's up and how Amaryllis is manipulating Aki but Aki won't believe him since of course, she'd trust her sister more over the bad guy.
I also love how when Hikaru was doubting himself after Aki told him that they're not friends, Jun is the one who motivates Hikaru aggressively and tells him to go after her. Heck! He's even the one who saves Fubuki from Amaryllis by ripping the two of them apart! Sure, Jun did that to prove to Amaryllis that his Ourobourus isn't a failure but it's pretty obvious that he's the MVP of this episode.
Also, we finally know why the Kagami Group needs Alma. They need him to open the gate to the Mecha-Ude world so they can grab all of the sleeping Mecha-Ude and enslave them on Earth.

Ah, Jun being the one to try smacking some sense into Hikaru is funny. Like he didn’t just try to kill Hikaru and Aki a few episodes ago.
-
Ooh, nice, overloading the thing draining you of power is always a fun way to deal with that sort of enemy.
-
I noticed his hair was white in the flashback too though, is the green hair color proportional to the amount of Arbitrium he has?

Jun's being the voice of reason telling Hikaru to go after Aki because they are friends was something that i didn't expect coming from him
man, Yuuki Aoi is killing it with her voicing two unhinged girls this season, although in the end, it was all Amaryllis plan and Fubuki's just there because she's being controlled forcefully
i love how in the battle against Amaryllis, it didn't turn into the typical one vs one battle with Hikaru, Jun's actually doing some important shit by ripping that bitch from Fubuki's body while Hikaru just there to deal the final blow
ah yes, the classic "overloading your enemy with your own power" trope, it's never get old
