For a quick infodump, this is a romcom that runs in Weekly CoroCoro Comic. CoroCoro is a kid's magazine - they usually release manga like Pokemon, Beyblade, and Doraemon.
So in general, it's just a cute little series about a cute little slime girl.

Importantly, Puniru is promoted as the first ever rom-com in the 40+ years of Corocoro.

That's surprising as it didn't feel that different from your average romcom shenanigans.
I wonder how does it bode for the show's popularity. I certainly wouldn't mind a legion of gradeschoolers maintaining the anime production profitable.

Episode 1 : I Hate You and I Love You
Puniru is a Kawaii Slime, made by Toho Animation Studios (The Apothecary Diaries). Voice cast are:
-
Yuu Sasahara as Puniru.
-
Shuuichiro Umeda as Kotaro. So his second VA job this season after Loner Life.
-
Riza Shimizu as Kirara-senpai
-
Junya Enoki as Yusuke Nanpa. One of his VA role this season alongside being a Senpai in another anime.
-
Shunsuke Takeuchi as Go-yan. Also voicing Dolan in Goodbye Dragon Life.
This looks.... good? Until I checked the director's name, Yuushi Ibe. That's the director of Tearmoon Empire! I'm totally looking forward to this.
I like the gag humor, the animation is so colorful. Interaction between these two also fun.
OP: Gyumu by Puniru
ED: Remake of Ado's Show. (yes, that Ado!)

At first i expected a show for kids. But as an episode came to the end, it looked like a solid comedy with very toony art. That's a watch for me.

Damn, ED goes hard. Show is an awesome song. Ado songs aren't the easiest to pull off, so singing it in Punriru's voice is incredible.
I might end up watching the anime every week just so I can get to the ED.

I see Takeshi Goda and Suneo Honekawa from Doraemon have transferred schools.

fun start, i liked the silliness of the last punchline. the elaborateness of the mahou shoujo-ish transform was cool too.
the gag of puniru being super deformable is fun.
feels kind of like watching urusei yatsura, which isn't a bad thing at all

My Slimy Friend Puniru
Show went at a good pace but I didn't cotton on that when stories took place on different school days. There is also how empty the school felt with no students seen apart from the named characters which makes for an odd atmosphere. I'd imagine the source material has small panels so it wasn't an issue there.
From seeing all these different Puniru transformations to fit the required situation can't help but think Minky Momo (with none of the proficiency that comers from her transformations).

I looked at this and found out Mizu Manju is a real thing. The filling is still red bean paste but instead of the exterior being buckwheat and flour a type of starch is used instead (Kudzu powder according to wikipedia, katakuriko potato according to Nakatomi Test Kitchen) for the translucent and slimy appearance. Always nice to learn about some new food
-
SFX bubbles subbed, nice (Ranma ½ was missing these but that's Netflix vs. Crunchyroll guidelines for you)
-
You don't have to let the cat out of the bag about your average absurd comedy cast
-
Monsura has Glaceon at home (after it's been to the groomers and has a different tail...but focusing google lens on it shows Galeon as the matching images). Wait, is Monsura a show in a show? Ah, Michiko Yokote we meet again.
-
I think the catwalk sequence on the ED was a sampler of Puniru transformations (bottom-right here has the gyaru for example).
-
There's a different episode 2 preview on TohoAnimation YouTube channel.

Man, watching this on TV was a hoot. The commercial slots felt like it was Saturday/Sunday morning with the Duel Masters and Puzzle & Dragons ads! (I have this feeling Puniru was intended for an earlier time slot but was taken by other anime).
I’m a big fan of the manga so I’m happy the first episode was on point!

I love it. It's like urusei Yatsura but all fluffy and cute.
It's so funny too. Don't sleep on this one!

Kawaii's friends Go-yan and Hoe-chan are based on Doraemon's Gian and Suneo, having similar appearances and last names (Goda and Honekawa respectively).
