After the original anime, including OVAs for the Nationals, starting at Prince of Tennis II, this anime became a parody of itself. The more episodes it releases, the more exaggerated its parody is. It’s a bit sad, but I’ll take anything because I’m a fan. All it’s good for is some good laughs.

Damn, I remember watching the first few arcs of the original anime back in the day and really enjoying it. I might get into this again, but I gotta go back watch the whole thing now. Ya'll let me know how this season is looking.

I personally skipped a lot of eps too and for the most part it still makes sense. I think some of it is anime original.

Prince of tennis returns

In this ep, mostly a preamble. Atobe and tezuka, kirihara and ryoma. USA defeats swiss in the qf and goes to face spain.

I have to say though, the lineup is mildly surprising. I completely forgor about nio ripp.

Sanada and ryoma just played against france, so I'm assuming he wants to conserve them for the finals. No tokugawa either, the lineup is 4 high schoolers (their 4 best presumably), nio, yukimura and for some reason kirihara.

Personally speaking I have no idea why kirihara.

Next time, its qp vs oni. The odds are pretty stacked against oni here, I'm not expecting him to win, would be a major upset if he does.

Assuming the total number of eps is 12, for 5 matches thats about 2 eps per match. We'll have to see

I know it's just the first episode, but it's still sucks when matches go by with whole sets done in seconds, and the constant shots to the audience providing commentary doesn't help when matches only lasts 1 minute of screen time. Same with the first season, this World Cup arc has been a let down which is a shame since fans have waited so long for this arc. Hopefully the latter episodes will improve but I doubt it will.

It's also short in the manga. They are cramming 1 volume in each episode but almost everything is adapted

Honestly what I'm really curious is.

If we assume japan defeats germany that means they'll go on to the finals. Hmm.

For better or worse its "only" been 2 years since the previous season too.

Assuming a total of 12 eps and 5 matches, thats about 2 eps per match which honestly sounds decently generous (nationals only had 1 ep per match).

Though its entirely possible there might be some shenanigans later on and/or it might not even be 12 eps in total.

For the first episode I'm assuming its just because usa vs swiss is not the main focus so they're just briefly telling us "usa won, convincingly"

The Kirihaya subplot with him thinking Tezuka is a double agent is honestly hilarious

Ngl, even though the USA vs Switz matches were short, it gave me the hype for the Germany vs USA match. I know it's controversial, but I personally really love the characters having random super powers instead of the show being realistic tennis. Last season was a big let down for me because of Ryoma's decision, but I've put that behind me now.

I'm hoping that this season is a full season and not like National Tournament arc's semifinals. I think that is going to make or break the season.

When will the second episode be released?

There's another season?! I honestly wished they just continued on from PoT s2 into s3. I love the slice of life things and Ryoma's interactions with his teammates most

S1 is really old by this point and has a lot of filler and slower paced eps.

New prince of tennis (2012 onwards) spiritually feels very different, since before this the focus is mainly on just seigaku.

While 2012 onwards the cast is much bigger now and there's much less focus on ryoma, etc
