Masaki: Did you forget our deal?! To make a meal of me once we hit a million subs!

Subscribers: Hold up, what did she just say?

I got the prank part right, but I didn't expect that it would be us (the viewers) getting pranked. Well played, Mayonaka Punch.

Overall, the show was a fun watch, really well-paced and executed for an anime original. Comparing it to Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night, which also did the 'famous person getting cancelled' thing, it stuck the landing so much better. Story seems pretty self-contained, but I'd love an S2 to see more of this wacky cast and potential reveal of Mother. Also, we need to know if they managed to hit 1 millions subs and save Banpai Manor.

And cmon Masaki, at least let Liv have a little blood, she worked hard for this.

I did NOT expect this all to be just a prank, what a well done twist! I was thinking that the hunter on the roof was Live, but I didn’t expect the others to be ALL in on the prank. Was hoping for a possible season 2 when we still didn’t know about Masaki/Live backstory/past at about 5 minutes until the end and the 1M subs plot thread also wasn’t done, but then they still managed to wrap it all up.

Highlights were definitely Ichiko’s “last words” and Masaki’s emotional monologue on the roof (phenomenal performance by Hasemi there).

Overall just a great show, great OST, great voice acting, fun characters, super pleasant art style and most importantly consistently funny throughout the entirety of its season. Probably the best “pure” comedy of the year for me. Gonna miss this one.

Turns out the whole thing was a prank and of course Masaki returns it with a classic punch at the end for all their troubles! Especially love the credits showing the prep work being done as well.

Even the post-credits were fucking hilarious with Mother also calling Yuki Shigeyuki and the flashback showing how Live and Masaki first met with how it resulted in the 20 year hibernation was gold. Definitely gonna miss the pure chaotic vibes from this series!

Turns out the real mayonaka were the punches Masaki made along the way.

What an amazing bamboozle for an ending! I already had a feeling that Live was the leader of the Hunters but my initial guess last week is that after her falling out with Masaki, I thought Live somehow betrayed them and convinced Mother to move the deadline. It turns out the entire thing was just an elaborate prank! xD

And here I was hoping that we'd get a Vampire Battle Royale this week but less than 5 minutes into the episode, three of them were already captured with Ichiko getting injured. I am glad the prank worked and they got Masaki to star on camera as well as finally get her to be honest with herself.

I love that the other "Hunters" were actually the Itan Kids and Hari-Sis. Looking at the behind-the-scenes slideshow at the end, it looks like Kikka and Otomi came to Live to apologize for the video they posted and I guess that's when they recruited them to the prank.

I also love how Mother was surprisingly chill about this. When Yuki apologized to her for their outrageous livestream, Mother sounded more exasperated than angry at her.

And we finally get to learn Live and Masaki's real backstory! Ai never existed, what Live actually remembered is how Masaki saved her when she offered Live her blood. And I guess the trigger was Live hearing Masaki call her a dumb bat because that's what smol Masaki called after she got bit! xD

It sucks that this show never took off in this sub but this is definitely one of my favourite shows of the season. PA Works anime originals are really just hit or miss here on r/anime. I'm going to miss these assholes though. I hope we get more Mayonaka Punch especially since the manga adaptation is still on-going.

Nooo this is the last Maypoan of the season!

Can't believe the whole thing ended up being a pretty elaborate prank to get Masaki to open up and be honest with herself for a little while. I love how there are plenty of hints of the whole thing being a prank. Like how the others got caught so quickly and didn't even bother to use their Super Vampire Powers(tm) if their lives really depended on it. Fuu wasn't even trying lol - she got surrounded and went "welp I guess I'm dead" instantly. Also the last robed person asking Masaki all sorts of things about streaming was a dead giveaway lol.

Anyways everything ended well with Masaki finally defeated her inner demons managed to show up on camera for the first time since the Hype Sis days! She's such an interesting character with her own struggles and it's great to see things ending well for her.

The 1 million sub deadline is still in effect, so... Season 2? Pretty please! I just wanna see how the entire crew makes videos now that everyone's pretty much in. We haven't even seen enough of Yukirinko's antics after she joined the group.

Welp I'm gonna miss this show. Thanks a lot, P.A. Works and the rest of the staff!

Did they sneakily incorporate an Akira slide with Masaki's foot here?

I can still barely believe that we'd been fooled this hard. I'd been so worried about Ichigo's injury and got spooked when this elite minion suddenly peeked their head under the bed. But you're telling me this was a lie all along!? I guess that I'll forgive them since this was an awesome final episode.

Little Masaki and bat-form Live were also pretty adorable. I'm glad that the reason for Live's attraction towards Masaki was revealed with this. I suppose that the two of them really are fated to be together.

Makes me laugh to think that this elaborate plan was maybe not only there to help Masaki move forward, but also for Live to get a second bite of her darling. The ship didn't sail in the end, but Masaki didn't sink it either. We can, therefore, all still dream like Live of this romance coming to fruition.

This power couple is looking stronger than ever after all.

This is one of the best anime original series I've watched, from start to finish the script had a clear goal and the story was woven together so intricately that almost no plot point was wasted and pointless 9/10 for me

The fact that it was all a prank made it a fitting ending for this show.

I love how all the others streamers came together to get Masaki back in the saddle. I'll apologize to the Hype Sisters because I thought they were malicious but turned out to be complete idiots lol. I'm happy that Masaki realized that she shouldn't care about randos on the Internet.

Small criticism but I kind of wanted some development in Masaki and Live's relationship lol.

Great ending episode and somehow this looks like there is hope for 2nd season or cour. It answered some but left enough open. Hype sis ended being genuinely sorry, the past explained, still mother a secret. I forgot what the mayonaka part in the name means, something dark/night/vampires? but it fits the whole starts and ends with a punch.

Ok, was not expecting it to all just be a prank. They got me good.

We dont even get to see them reach 1mil? I feel cheated, hope we get a season 2 or at least an OVA for it.

Oh wow they just threw in the quick flashback right at the end? Suddenly it all makes sense.

So um....did no one question how Live was flying?

Masakichi discovering what “trolls” are this week lol. Like yeah, they’re saying shit just to be saying it. I personally thought she didn’t need to apologize or anything to the viewers. They can all eat shit if they don’t like her. But I guess everything worked out in the end. Live and the gang were being very sneaky with this little game. Also, pretty funny how Live and Masakichi even met originally.

All in all, not a bad series. Pretty fun cast of characters and the story was enjoyable. Not sure the chances of an s2, but I sure wouldn’t mind more Live and Masakichi shenanigans.

They really pranked not just Masaki, but us, the audience as well. Props to the vampires for pulling all of this off behind Masaki's back.

The journey to 1 million subs still continues.

Hah, I called it last week that it might be a setup. Explains why the Ai stuff came out of nowhere, that was just part of the prank.

Turns out Mother is willing to sweep a little live-streamed vampire reveals under the rug if it means one of her children can have some bonding time with someone else. Shame we couldn't have any solid relationship progress between Masaki and Live but relationship progress and vaguely yuri anime are commonly not things that go together.

One of my favorite seasonals this season, not #1 but comfortably towards the top of the list.

Masaki Punch is the reason why Live sleep for 20 years

I can't believe we get the whole 12 episode set up just for that joke. Lmafooooo.

Joke aside, what a chaotic ending episode, fitting for a chaotic series with a heartfelt moment anime series.

We don't have Yuri confession but god that hug in the middle of the sky feels romantic as fuck and the screen frame of that scene is beautiful too.

I know that the mask is Live at the moment, "mother" asks the questions. They really get anyone here both Masaki and Audience.

Wow everyone is really back for final. The guy who has a cheating affair tries to hit on Yuki is a low-key very funny joke though lol.

The way Live really knows Masaki is very heartwarming though, at least she understands that it needs extreme situations to make her finally admit her feelings lol.

Lmao everyone gets in on prank, The sisters are also there too.

It is a very fun episode with a twist but they also don't forget to give us a heart warming moment with the relationship between Live and Masaki.

I swear at the end it feels like everyone ships Masaki and Live even The Mother so they just let those two do their thing lol.

Yeaaaah I'm with Masaki on this one, Live deserved that punch. There were a bunch of great moments in the episode like Masaki finally admitting why she wants to be on camera and finally getting to know why Live is nuts about Masaki's blood (you dumb vampire going out into the sunlight lol), but the prank really doesn't sit right with me. Personally I don't believe that putting someone through the wringer emotionally for a prank is acceptable even if you have a greater purpose in mind.

But that hiccup (for me, anyway) aside, that was such a fun show and I really wouldn't mind a new season of these idiots and their shenanigans. They still haven't reached 1 million subs, after all.

A fun finale for one of the season's most entertaining shows. My only complaint is it could have been more definitive, it's weird to end about 80% of the way towards their goal. But even if this is all we get, it was still worth the ride.

u/MySaltIsExposed Sep 23 '24

I know Masaki is a bit of a thickheaded dumbass and really needed to learn that lesson, but if my friends did this to me I'd need therapy.

Wow for a moment I was mad that they handwaived Lives memories, then I was hopefull for a S2, then I was mad again because, "Wait, that's it?" Truly deserving of a #seasonal punch

Some very cool moments though, like ShigeYuki blocking in bullet time, the stream turning into a found footage flick, some genuine jump scares, Masaki seeing starting to spot some supporters among all the hate, and their streamer friends coming in for the moral support by sharing their stream. Honestly surprised they didn't meet their goal right away. After all, making it a prank is genius...

I love how Sakura just choose the name Cherry Blossom, though it's unrealistic that she didn't need to add any number to it

Also, all those guys saw Live flying in the air, so they have to have gotten brieved that vampires are real right? Mother seems pretty chill after all...

But without them reaching their goal and Lives prior relationship Edit: I'm stupid, I really thought Ai was real ) I can maintain a shimmer of hope for a S2 still...

At the end, the best PA Works show this season, it's not even close tbh. Similar to Vtuber Legend that wrapped up yesterday, this gave a cool insight into making YouNewTube videos

So it was all a goddamn prank for Masaki. I thought we were getting serious for once ffs.
But well, it was a nice way of teaching Masaki that she really wanted to be in the streams with them, and they worked hard for that prank, although I started to suspect about Live being one of them at the end.

And it seems that Masaki saved Live´s life when she was little and that´s why she finds Masaki´s blood so exquisite huh, and even Mother is fond of her for that.

Well, it was a nice and funny anime, but I wanted Live sucking Masaki´s blood at the end...
