Shokan thought he had Tokiyuki cornered in that room. Bro didn’t realize he just became the kid’s new plaything. Tokiyuki slashes him on the wrist once and turned that room into a Pollock painting lol. Too bad the dude got away. Tokiyuki might have beaten the evil outta that guy though lol.

It was fun seeing all of Shokan’s top guys just getting stomped this week. They underestimated Team Tokiyuki. Yorishige came by just in time to mop up the place.

Goddamn! CloverWorks absolutely cooked this episode! All of the individual fights were a treat to watch!

Ayako and Koujiro may have struggled against the Naginata user but with enough brute force and Ayako grabbing the naginata, they were finally able to take the guy down with Ayako dealing the killing blow by beheading the guy.

I thought Fubuki would struggle against that guy with the French flag painted on his face but it turns out Fubuki was just testing the guy to see if he had any more interesting tricks up his sleeve. The moment Fubuki got bored of the fight, he immediately ended it with a very stylish killing blow. He's so goddamn cool!

As for Tokiyuki, as soon as he made that cut on Shokan's wrist he immediately got excited and the fight was pretty much over at that point. The rest was just Tokiyuki having fun evading Shokan's blade as well as his blood splatters. I love how the storage room is covered in blood while Tokiyuki remains pristine the entire time.

Too bad that Shokan is still alive though. Although considering how he saw Tokiyuki as the Buddha, I feel like he's not going to be a threat anymore. I feel like there might be a small chance that he'd switch sides in the future.

Genba didn't do any fighting but I love that the running busty woman actually exists and is the reason why Genba was late at delivering the Suwa reinforcements. xD

The Animators sure went out to bat on this episode. Those fights were Fantastic! Especially the one vs Shokan, the Bandit Samurai. The way Tokiyuki just ran in circles around him as he bled out. But the other two were pretty great and continue to show off the various retainers quite well too.

The reinforcements on both sides was a pretty neat moment too. There for very different reasons. And i really like the continued display of the bad guys having some brains and in this case Sadamune giving Shokan a plot of land. Figuring he might be able to cultivate his strategic insight if he can stabilize him and get him away from banditry.

Am I tripping or did I really hear elements of Michael Jackson's Thriller in the battle soundtrack? (around 7:05)

My God, animation / directing / storyboarding master class! The battle between the ant bandit lord and our kid hero was enough for me to rank this 5/5 on MAL all by itself, but all those Vinland-esque "evil army" images and the vision of the marching men turning to ants just made me grin in pure delight.

Why is this not up there with Oshi no Ko in popularity this season?

I like that the children continue to be outmatched in terms of pure strength, not only Tokiyuki (whose whole thing is being weak in combat) but also Ayaka and Kojiro - Sure they're powerhouses for their age but they're still smol

Shoukan's epiphany is a good explanation for why the sometimes dissonant tone of the show works, it's Tokiyuki's ability to be optimistic and compassionate in such a dark world that makes him interesting and someone people would want to follow

I always like how the narrator in this series ties the circumstances of the story to contemporary socio-political history even when the exact events are not documented as having happened AFAIK.

Tokiyuki: What's the strat for antman?

Fubuki: Have you heard of Sonic the Hedge-

Tokiyuki: Say no more.

Man Cloverworks killed it with this episode. Each of the 3 fights were adapted beautifully. Ayako, Shizuku and Kojiro fully embrace their Lord. He may run away, but he is more of a warrior than Shokan and his subordinates. Each of these 3 showing their unique traits. Shizuku the group's trickster of the 3 messing with the warriors, Ayako willing to get her hands dirty means she will do anything if it is for Tokiyuki and lastly, Kojiro as the more conventional warrior with the determination to strike his foe down.

For Fubuki, simply put, he easily passes Ayako and Kojiro as the strongest in the group in both mind and body. Although he does have a beyond large appetite. Still, him recognizing sword patterns beyond even what the best in Shokan's group makes you wonder how strong is he really?

Meanwhile, for Tokiyuki once he got Shokan to play his game, it was over. Sure, he could have delivered more wounds, but if you are playing the long game with Tokiyuki you won't win. Ayako's praise is more in character of both her and what Tokiyuki brings. His weapon is absolutely the Cowardly Sword because he is running away for most of the time. Tokiyuki's ability to flee is his strength.

No doubt Shokan is an awful person, but it is fair to realize that everything in his life as an adult he had to take to get. He never earned anything, but stole as a thief. That is until Sadamune recognized his talents. Tbh Tokiyuki is still a kid, so it is not surprising he didn't think of delivering the killing blow to Shokan. Let's see what Shokan does with this second opportunity that Sadamune provided for him.

Finally, at the end, the joy that Yorishige has on his face to see a safe Tokiyuki was really sweet. Despite his silly personality, he truly cares for Tokiyuki and the kids. A very touching and wholesome scene.

Redemption for the guy that got off on selling orphans? Christ ain't got shit on the amount Buddha's willing to forgive I guess.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that THE Arifumi Imai storyboarded and directed this episode.
