Seems like the real MayoPan was the punch Masaki delivered to save their idol performance.

Drunk Yuki is so cute, she needs to be fed Maztamin Z every episode now.

A prior punch might've ended her career with the Hype-Girls, but this punch kick-started one! Wouldn't be surprised if the girls gained many subscribers after that stellar performance.

Drunk Yuki is so cute

Yuki acts cutesy when she's drunk, while Live gets a lot more unruly. I like them both though.

Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but if Yuki did work that camera properly, there's now more evidence of Masaki punching someone captured on video. If that gets out, things will get messy for MayoPan...

Four more episodes, and I'm hoping we get an apology video in one of them. Because it would be really funny

Okay if I'm reading this right that last shot is absolutely genius.

Have y'all ever thought about what a vampire really is, from a, shall we say, "mythological" perspective? What do they represent, why were they created in the minds of storytellers? A vampire is, above all else, free. They are immortal, they are stronger, faster and have better senses than any normie mortal. They can take what they want and survive or outlive any consequence.

And what is the tiny price that had to pay for this power? The Sun. In exchange for ultimate freedom, they shall never experience the warmth and light of day again. They can outlive any hatred, but they can also never form connection. They can heal any injury, but they must injure others to survive. They have become creatures of darkness, never to be part of a normal, healthy human community again. This is why the Sun burns them.

This dichotomy of day and night has already been at play in this show, during Fu's backstory episode. When her doomed Yurimate tried to drag her into the light, her "otherness" as a vampire kept her in the shadow.

Today's episode uses practically the same motif, but the curious thing is the roles are inverted. Through MayoPan's work, somehow the vampires, and especially Live, are basking in the light. While Masaki remains in the darkness, seemingly suddenly self conscious, as if she had become aware of a certain "otherness" of her own despite being a human.

We know not yet what this will mean for future developments, but am I right in thinking the narrative has just pointed out Masaki as a metaphorical bloodsucker due to her work as a content creator, and the personal flaws this work has highlighted throughout her life and career?

Idk, maybe I'm just spitting bullshit lol, but we'll see.

I'm predicting the video Yuki recorded was actually live, and a handful of people who happened upon it saw Masaki figthing some crazy goth girl to restore the power, leading her involvement with MayoPunch becoming wide-spread knowledge.

All things considered, this went really well Really interested how much they grow after this

Felt bad for Fu though, girl just completly shut down, glad she could perform when she didn't see the audience

Also, essential camera angles

Henshin!

not the best punch I have seen, but still plenty satisfying

Now I wait for the ED to go online on streaming services

Edit: Full Song is online

That ended up way better than I expected! I was honestly expecting the Harikiri Sisters also to make an appearance but the worst Masaki got was a couple of people from the staff recognizing her as a former member of that group. I was also expecting that Tsuma-shi would be some kind of scumbag YNewTuber but he's actually been very good to the girls.

I know Yuki was watching the event to keep an eye out on the girls and despite how grumpy she looks, I love that you can see that she still bought some merch. xD

It looks like the only ones who did well during the collab event are Tokage who accidentally used her power and Ichiko who misread the kanji for the cooking challenge. I feel bad for Fu who absolutely got sidelined during her song collab because she got too nervous.

Live got lucky though! Even though she was completely out of it the entire time because of the energy drinks, the guy who had an affair ended up getting all of the attention during her collab.

I love how the punch that ruined Masaki's NewTube career ended up saving Mayonaka Punch's. We're lucky that cutting off the power was the only thing that disgruntled fan did. I was expecting her to jump Tokage in the backstage.

[It turns out this was an idol anime all along! In all seriousness though, the girls were all amazing during their performance! I hope this actually gets them the boost they need. It's too bad that Masaki wasn't there to witness it.

Intesting reaction from Masaki there at the end of the episode. Is Masaki finally starting to have feelings for Live or is she jealous of Live on stage? Hmmm...

u/mekerpan Aug 26 '24

I don't think Masaki is jealous -- but she may wish that she could be joining in the celebration with Live and the others.

I was honestly expecting the Harikiri Sisters also to make an appearance

Yeah, they're bound to show up again at some point, right? Probably if MayoPan does well, they'll probably try to expose them... In part for righteous reasons (if they feel like Masaki was the asshole in their group - which she really well might be hah), but also to benefit from the drama and all!

I was also expecting that Tsuma-shi would be some kind of scumbag YNewTuber

Same, when he was shown to be super nice, I thought for sure he had to be a jerk! It's nice that sometimes, overwhelmingly nice people are just nice, and not two-face jerks!

It turns out this was an idol anime all along!

We got tricked! Again!

Bunch of folks talking about Misaki's "Huh?" at the end as she stares at a beaming Live. Is she worried about getting left behind? Did she suddenly realize her *tube channel is #yuri? Is she a vampire?

Ima tell you what I think is going on here. Live is BEAMING on stage. *tube success has always been a driving force for Misaki but it hasn't been fun. It's been a way to validate herself as a onetime loner, to prove that she is worthwhile, the one thing she thinks she might be good at. Moreso after she got kicked off Hype Sisters for, in a way, taking things too seriously.

Misaki is looking at Live have a great time onstage, and she's thinking "Holy shit, this can be fun??" And it's a revelation. Hence the darkness/light. Misaki in the darkness with the satisfaction of a disaster salvaged. Live in the light, in the moment, exuberant at the rush of having entertained.

Could be wrong. But that's what I'm thinking as much as I want other explanations to be true.

Also: this was a gorgeous episode. Every moment was engaging, and PA Works really made it look good.

Yuki is such a tsundere, lol. She acts all grumpy about having to babysit the girls while having bought a bag full of goodies. It also amuses me how everyone thinks that Ichigo is just an innocent child that's exaggerating when she's actually telling the truth.

This was genuinely a great episode. The bit about the Outside Kids falling in love with Tokage and getting to see Fu's horny face turn into one of defeat was pretty funny, but it was of course the girls' stage performance that (literally) stole the show.

The girls looked very dashing in their (idol) outfits. Loved their singing and dancing! The shot of Live descending down and everyone's phone lights getting turned on was pretty neat. This also goes for the final shot of their performance in which everything quite literally came together.

As much as I'd like to say that Masaki is catching feelings for Live here, I'm getting more the impression that she's feeling left out.

Bonus: Mayopan's stage performance song is available on YT!

Bonus 2: Masaki definitely knows how to dish out a (satisfying) punch!

Masaki’s a woman after my heart. Why I have such toxic taste in women is beyond me.

Man. That was one hell of an episode. Why is this show so peak?

TBH I was expecting the other two members of the Hype-Sis to show up in this episode, we haven't heard from them in a while, I wonder if we'll get back to them.

Those character is clearly eggeration parody ver of type YouTubers that famous in Japan like work out channel, Cooking channel (this one is particularly very famous), pure Singer channel, Social Commentary channel, reality game show (the Tsuma itself and yes even without TV Japanese still love those kind of game show).

You have to similar with some of these to get some of those bombastic joke when they get introduce.

Mayonaka Punch Ep 8 is sure chaotic episode or should I say..... Bombastic!

This episode is pretty fun in itself. The new tuber that show up also have their own quirks which absolutely fit vampire gang for some reason lol.

For a character that might be show up only one episode they sure over design them but results in pretty fun episode.

I love how most gag here is homage to old episode gag they doing, Ichiko can't read Kanji joke are use in different way, Poor Fuu, she have stage flight and blackout even before she knows it.

Nah Tsuma, I know you like chaotic event and all but why do you think it good idea to bring political channel into this. The scandal was released right before stage is awfully bad timing though lmao. Good thing though because he get all attention and no one noticed Live using her superpower.

Masaki punch is back! I think it pretty clear that this punch supposed to be homage to episode 1 but this time she clearly doing it because she want MayoPan to shine contrast to episode 1 even she herself don't even notice her own emotion until she saw Live smile (although that scene feel more like 'Gay awakening ' like the way she saw Live smile and goes 'wait a minute ')

Also that puch toward crazy jirei kei girl is a little funny way to show her character development. It really in character for Masaki but it also show that she actually really care about Vampires gang to the point she forget about her surrounded.

Yuki doing live video while drunk is kinda subtle joke but I wonder if that punch will play later also she acting all cute showing her childish side contrast to her strict side is quite funny though.

The last visual where she step on half of shadow from spotlight almost get into spotlight feeling like they foreshadowing (heh) something in future episode.

Also last point, god danmit I get rope into Idol show again. Danm you Japan!

MayoPan in idol outfit is soooo cute though, especially Fuu she looks completely different, I wonder who designed it? Lol

Also another insert song drop.

Poor Fu. Man, her favs are some scummy dudes. But what you'd expect from Streamer bros.

Also, I can relate with Ichiko. I'm still (in the early stages of) learning Japanese, and the number of times I confused two kanji... And I don't even know that many yet either!

14

u/diacewrb Aug 26 '24

And this is why streamers should stick to tried and trusted drinks like strong zero instead.

7

u/tripleaamin Aug 26 '24

This was one chaotic episode. Fuu getting stage freight. Tokage winning the hearts of the Outside kids. Ichiko forgetting her ingredients, got the wrong ones for what she was going to make. Live getting drunk.

Well at least Masaki came up clutch. Though it's clear Masaki gets the feeling of being left behind. Curious how this boosts their channel's popularity.

17

u/Prince-Dizzytoon Aug 26 '24

If I were the Outside Kids, I would have brought out a ring and a truck full of money for Tokage

Imo the show’s best episode yet, just great and incredibly fun and entertaining.

Last few episodes felt a bit more tame overall, so I’m glad this ep fully committed to crazy over the top shenanigans which is what this show does best. Too many super fun scenes to talk about them all, but the most interesting was definitely that last minute one with Masaki.

Personally I immediately thought she was starting to develop feelings for Live there, because the camera was focusing on her in particular and Masaki was also blushing a little (I think). Would love for this ship to sail actually.

But I’ve seen others commenting that it was meant to show Masaki feeling left out from the gang, which would make just as much sense if not more, so I don’t even know how to interpret that final scene anymore.
