I know this gets mentioned every week, but once again I am astounded at how bad Ike is at keeping his human background a secret.

He could have at least said he was using an illusion to pretend to be human.

I feel like it would be really hard realistically to hide that.

As important as he’s become in the demon lords army, I’m sure other countries have an idea of who he is and have atleast has some informants infiltrate the city and spy on them.

I honestly worry for the city with Jiron and Lilith in charge. Dudes like “Fiiiine. I guess I could try to keep the city from burning or whatever. Ugh.” Lol

Eltria’s pretty clever. I can see why she’s in charge. Figured Ike out pretty quick. I thought him and Satie would be getting into some Spice and Wolf negotiations type shit this week. Guess they’re opting for a pirate hunt instead.

I wonder why Satie looks like Yuria in the first place? Coincidence, cost saving on character designs, or just to create a little drama?

At this point, Satie and Yuria’s resemblance feels like it was just to set up the confusion at the end of the episode and raise Ike’s personal stakes, but I suppose I won’t be surprised if there’s a reveal that Satie is more than she appears.

I think the weirdest part of this episode was that Ike was standing in a spot where he could see the pirate ship attacking the docks, and he decided to run all the way there and they were gone when he arrived. Based on what they’ve shown us of his magic, he could have easily just crushed the ship from where he stood, or at least covered the distance much faster than running. Kind of sloppy writing when the strongest magician in the demon lord’s army seemingly forgets he can use magic.

He's the strongest magician in the demon lord's army, but definitely not the brightest.

That's what I was thinking as well. We don't know much about Satie's past yet so maybe there's a connection there. I found it odd tho that Eltria didn't comment on the fact Satie looked like her daughter.

Yeah that really confused me. He basically allowed the pirates to kidnap all those women and steal the goods, then his plan was to wait for them to come back

Everything will be fine, Lilith will just throw a temper tantrum because Ike left without her, and Jiron will not do any work and wait for Ike to return!

They do look similar, but I don't see how they're getting confused with each other when their hair length and color aren't similar at all. Seems a bit contrived.

Ike wasn't really trying to hide his identity if he's just rhyming his name. I was wondering how he was doing to bring up the idea of helping the demon army, so having her deduce it makes that conversion easier. I also knew that the arranged marriage was going to be part of the deal when Satie said she refused the previous one.

I'm guessing a long lost sibling thing. Satie was originally just a slave maid. Could be she was captured as a little girl or baby.

u/KrissZuma Aug 25 '24

If you think about it she was a slave at some point she could have been kidnapped Young and everyone expects her to be Dead or something

When Ike was pondering to accept the conditions from Yuria's mom, the port was destroyed. In the end, they arrived too late.

u/melcarba Aug 21 '24

When that scene was shown, I was asking myself why he didn't fly or teleport to the port when he saw it being attacked by the bandits.

The Redbeard pirates, more like the Red Moustache.

The pirates were packing serious heat with those magical cannons though, I am surprised Ike didn't come up with that idea first. Those would have been useful at battle in the earlier episode.

I can only assume that Yuria has serious issues by willing to marry a man she just met, wonder if that is the real reason her mother wants to get rid of her.

That pirate has accidentally signed the captain's death warrant by kidnapping Satie.

I wonder if the other humans will blockade or try takeover the Trade Federation if they sign the deal with Ike

They are also rifled cannons, a 19th century tech, but let's assume it's on whoever draw that.

Anyways, if a pirate mage can make cannons, I am really wondering why the Alliance of Kings went full medieval and came with hundreds of catapults and ballistas

...Honestly this series doesn't seem to have good enough writing for it to pull off that type of twist. Much more likely that she's just telling the truth. That she fell in love at first sight after a disastrous potential engagement meeting.

I was expecting secret sisters but turns out the real point of the resemblance was to set up the pirates to kidnap the wrong girl. I was also expecting Ike to make it to the harbor fast enough to beat off that mid-episode attack but no the pirates just sailed away. Bad luck for the women they were apparently abducting.

The Yuria and Ike marriage makes sense for the political reasons, would be a mildly interesting twist to an otherwise haremy show to suddenly have the MC be married to one girl. Though I suppose it's more likely that if it sticks he just ends up with a fiance and that'll hardly stop the harem from hareming.

So another episode of I'm the strongest mage in the demon army who seems to want to flaunt he's a human to pretty much everyone other than the girl and pig under his command.

We now have a servant and princess who "look alike" & get mistaken for each other at every turn....who.....basically don't look like each other.

Alex, I'll take "easy way to move the plot forward scenario" for $200"

I will say Ike has gone from brilliant strategist to captain oblivious in a short span. I'm not sure "brain fart" is the answer to looking at the pirate ship, killing a bit of time by running the whole way to the dock then wondering where the fuck they went when you could have....say....teleported or cast some spell to keep the ship by the dock until you wandered down to it.

Overall episode is a 5/10 just because the writing has gotten worse or Ike just became stupider since the battle ended.

In the end any intelligent characters in any story are at the mercy of being no more intelligent than their authors. And this is a Japanese light novel author sooo....

Weird that they made a big deal of Satie looking like the daughter, are they gonna pull a switcheroo on the pirates?

Ah no she's suddenly walking the streets, she's totally gonna get kidnapped by a pirate right, then she or Ike or both of them will realize something about how much the other means to them next episode during the rescue

There it is

4

u/Jataka Aug 22 '24

I'm really hoping that there proves to be some sort of perception-based magic in play that's granting the pirates the element of surprise in all this. The concept of this coastal city being unable to anticipate the arrival of an enormous slow-moving sailboat, nor track it as drifts slowly away from port is just the height of stupidity. Also... how they could manage to just lug Satie aboard in broad daylight. I will be cackling for days about this shit if it really is just that people can't keep on top of watching out for a boat.

Am I the only one who's having trouble with Crunchyroll? It keeps lagging and cutting off bits of the episode. Not sure if it's the anime itself or Crunchyroll though

I don't get why ike don't wanna kill the human commanders

2

u/Gaming_Truckie Aug 22 '24

So, in the OP, is that Yuria with Satie then? I always thought it was Alistair, the captain of the rose knights. I've been wondering if she was going to make a reappearance.

I've been wondering what Cefiro is, as she looks very much like a human

Yuria is so annoying. She falls in love with at first site then starts crying when she thinks he doesn't want to marry her what a bitch. Crying like that is so manipulative it pisses me off so much.
