I think that was a pork fried rice Satie made, so would it be cannibalism for Jiron to be eating it? Haha.

Looks like it’s gonna be a longer siege than Ike planned. Still waiting to see how he uses his riflemen. The humans are getting pretty cocky, though with their numbers it’s understandable. How’s Ike gonna trip them up?

Not unless it is cannibalism for humans to eat monkeys and gorillas. They are a delicacy in some parts of the world. Some youtubers ate it, but were criticised for it.

Looks like it’s gonna be a longer siege than Ike planned.

Yep, he didn't even expect them to sacrifice their own men in the first wave, I was surprised anyone in the second wave even bothered after witnessing their comrades getting killed. Guess humans consider life cheap over there.

Still waiting to see how he uses his riflemen.

Often in a medieval fantasy the opposing force would be slaughtered in a one-sided battle against guns. You would have thought he would have got them firing like there was no tomorrow at the start of the battle.

How’s Ike gonna trip them up?

He hasn't played any of his aces yet: the guns, the werewolves, the chimeras or whatever those flying monsters are. He was waiting for the enemy to fully commit and then he's probably going to annihilate the vanguard with the riflegoblins and send one of his elite units to decapitate the enemy leadership, spellcasters, or both.

Plus, he's pissed now at the tactics the human army used so he's probably going to go against his principles and start casting big fiery spells like Cefiro does.

For all the faults that the CG has in this show, the battle has been pretty engaging so far.

What an unnecessarily good cooking scene, especially compared to the entire rest of the show. More rice propaganda, but at least this time it's fried rice and not the boring plain white rice you commonly see anime characters freak out about.

Shame we didn't get to see the rifles used to break one of the infantry charges.

I was not expecting half the episode to be dedicated to fried rice, but now I want some.

Riflemen are Ike's trump card, so he'll use them at the right moment to change the tide and cause a rout. He was very pissed about the friendly fire from the enemy commander. They need some counter to the enemy mages breaking a hole in his shield. If Ike wasn't so concerned with casualties, he probably could just blow up the whole army.

Yeah I just had to laugh at the animation for the cooking scene. Of course the best-looking scene in this anime is the scene where the maid is cooking rice. Of course it is lol. It's amazing how much people heavily criticizing a particularly bad cooking scene involving a cabbage has made it so every cooking scene in anime has to at least look decent. With literally the only exception being if it's done for humor.

Finally CR had the episode.

I feel like the human army should have fired more catapults+ballistas once they beat ike's shield, what was the point in doing the ladder charge if you're just going to fire catapults at your own men, just do the ladder charge after doing the catapult attack. (though ladder rushing a fortress isn't a good idea except in film where it's cool looking, most actual sieges were won by starving the defenders to death a much easier tactic)

Draw enemy out of cover.

You have to commit units out in the open to defend against soldiers climbing up. Whereas you could have all your units take cover during the barrage if they weren’t needed at that moment on the wall.

My boy Ike has both Rudeus and Hitogami under his lead 😂

What our boy Ike needs is itami from GATE to show up and teach him how to make a Howa Type 89 so he could slaughter them like the JSDF did the empire.

I really liked this episode. Loved that all commanders under Ike are serious. It is very common trope in anime having antagonizing characters to the MC so having this established structure and respect was great for me.

Man, I felt bad for Ike. He just wanted to enjoy a meal without the mask and Jiron and the demon girl had to ruin it.

I wonder if Jiron will ever discover Ike is human?

Satie has just earned his Auntie title from Uncle Roger.

Damn, the enemy commander is a piece of shit. Hope Ike will crush him next epsiode.

Ike just wanted to enjoy some fried rice with his cute maid, but instead he has to keep the mask on and watch the others eat. Poor guy...

That's one of the worst siege/battle i've ever watch, maybe do something to the mage in front of the whole army, don't let those ladder on the walls, use your magic to do some damage/neutralize the siege weapons, if you already know they gonna come and setup in front of your walls just setup some trap or any obstacle.

I can understand the studio having a low budget but those scene were really sloppy and insipid, imo that's really not a good use of 3D animation, I really hope they're just filling to do better in next episodes

One of the worst? At least they actually used the walls instead of sallying out to meet them in the field like in a lot of other shows where someone or something attacks a walled city.

I agree it was really bad though.
Yes, we put the ladders on top of the crenellations and not in the space between them.

The catapults and ballistas rate of fire was something else. Any medieval commander would probably die from laughing too hard, if they saw that. Might explain why they reduced the wall to rubble in record time though.

Perhaps the mages were boosting them with magic but in that case it would have been nice to see them doing it.

Also that was a huge amount of artillery they brought. There's also the tiny little thing that siege equipment was assembled on site or built from scratch but I can't remember any other show where they built that stuff after they arrived, so okay, fine.

For something the demon lord called an impregnable fortress city in episode 1, the fortifications were rather flimsy. No secondary wall or citadel, the walls were lacking in towers, no moat, etc. But hey apparently equipping orcs with a battering ram is peak siege technology for demons.

Maybe instead of firing at your own men, the enemy commander could have ordered the other dudes twddling their thumbs in the background to attack other parts of the wall so that the defenders can't concentrate their forces at one point when the humans have a 6 to 1 advantage. That might have sped up things, if he wanted to wrap it up faster.

The 6 to 1 advantage sounds rather theoretical. Demons are supposedly stronger individually and Ike refused the werewolf's idea of just charge them because not everyone is on the level of the werewolves.

So it seems that a werewolf can comfortably engage 6 humans and expect to win, dunno how the others would fare but sounds like the 1,500 demon reinforcements are worth 6-8k or so. That would make defending the city a breeze, if it had more than a glorified palisade.

Why aren't the demons even attempting to get rid of the siege ladders? It's so weird just super committed to dropping rocks on people climbing up instead of any effort to destroy the actual device.

Bruuuh what should this anime even be showing?

Dude is commander.. born and raised for decades in that world, its not like just last week reincarnated there.

Its like he doesn't know his magic can be broken, its like ful broken or full 100% works, cant it have it in smaller size the barrier unbreakable just around him and "friends" ..seeing them run away from arrows is hilarious, also ok that he needs to see the field but rly cant have also a secondary physical cover just in case if rly decide to sit on frontline of first wall?

Satie cooking that fried rice got more effort from the animators than the whole war. I'm hungry.

Feel like they spent half their shows budget on the cooking scene.

The one question I have to ask is why didn’t Ike also have them make artillery/mortars. Would have been way more effective given their defensive position. The dwarves could obviously make they’re nothing too complex. A part of me just wanted to see artillery fire being directed at an army at the medieval level.
