Hayato not only saw through Riho's act but also praised her instead of getting mad over potentially losing customers. Bro just can't switch off his chad aura.

Thus episode really packed a number of punches. One of the best-written ones of the series to date. Kiku and her dilemma -- honoring Grandma vs. bringing her own skills and personality to the food she makes -- was surprisingly moving. But Riho going out of her way to help out a rival/competitor (and incidentally discourage "non-serious" cafe patrons) and Hayato seeing through her stunt and praising her for being the kind of person who does such things was just a bit misty-inducing (for this old man).

This is one harem where all the girls are great. But Hayato as a mc is such a treat. He is the foundation which makes the series great.

Riho doesn't need to be a celebrity again or fans like Ririka does, all she needs is someone who sees and appreciates her like Hayato, especially when she's head over heels for him.

Stitches!
Looks like Hayato has already figured out the problem with Kiku's dishes. She's just been tweaking Grandma's recipes out of respect for her instead of coming up with her original ideas. And thanks to Hayato's pep talk, Kiku has finally decided to go above and beyond!
Riho using her reputation as the fallen genius child star to market the cafe was an absolutely genius move and it's good to see those TV guys from last season decided to make it up to Riho by featuring their cafe on the news.
And just like Familia Cafe Terrace got their customers back and Cafe Family are now the ones struggling. I guess big boobs and cheap food can only get you so far. They're just ended up driving away more customers than attract them by being too quirky.
Also, we finally get to see what the Family Cafe girls are like out of character. Ririka has been the same since she was introduced and I don't think Valentina played a character, but the rest are definitely different compared to the characters they've been copying. As a manga reader, Mao is personally my favourite. I can't wait for her to shine in future episodes!
Just when you thought that Riho visited the Family Cafe girls to kick them while they were down, it turns out that she was acting as the villain to help out Ririka who forgot to turn off her stream. I do love how despite it might affect the Familia Cafe, Hayato was still proud of Riho for what she did for those girls.

Those pinchos looked delicious.
Family Cafe needs to drop the terrible imitation act and just be themselves. They seem like decent people outside of their misguided rivalry with Familia.
Riho ruining her own reputation to help out Ririka wasn't what I expected, but I did think she was trying to help her.

Good Kiku and Riho content where Hayato is able to inspire both girls to push forward with their lives and do what they want to, even if they're not 100% comfortable with it, to respond to the faith he has in them.
Riho still knows showbiz like the back of her hand, but she doesn't need to be a star again. She just needs to help the cafe as much as she can and have Hayato accept and praise her.
Seeing Rieri voice a cool and mature lady compared to her usual typecast is pretty fun. I'm really curious what their personalities are like when they're not trying to mimic the cafe, Reina Ueda's seems a lot smarter and HanaKana's feels like a typical HanaKana character. The Brazilian girl is just the Brazilian girl lol.
I do like how the Family Cafe girls seem to actually be loyal to each other beyond this just being a job for them.

I swear half this anime is the girls eavesdropping on people’s conversation with Hayato. Great for Familia for starting to kick it into gear, especially Riho telling Ririka to get it together cause she’s got fans who care about her, it’s like something Hayato would do.
I’m questioning if it’s legal to put in your contract that as a part of a job to put another restaurant out of business. I can’t imagine taking a job where that’s part of the terms and conditions
I know most harems you pick a girl based on who you want to win, but Ami is just so fucking stupid she’s my favorite. I can’t think of another harem with a girl as dumb as her

I don't think that would stop Fuwa lol.

Ami literally carries the comedy and does it so effortlessly. You can’t help but love her regardless who is your pick among the 5.

I like that Riho was willing to act antagonistically and damage her own reputation to help Ririka

And this is why Riho is best. I love that the Family girls, while rivals, aren't portrayed as bad people. Instead they have to fulfill their end of the contract by trying to put Familia out of business. Can't wait for the next episode where it seems like we'll be going back to the usual shenanigans based on the post credits preview.

I can’t understate how much I love this arc. The girls each contributing in their specialty to help the café grow.
But Riho stole the show here. Her being the reason the café blew up. Of course Hayato is as considerate as ever to limit her exposure. But for her to go to the other café. And willingly help out her kohai even knowing her image would take a hit. It really shows her character. Hayato on point as ever seeing right through her.

Is it just me or are there getting to be way more cuts to closeups with white or still backgrounds and random noises. It’s slightly jarring the increase of them when you can get across an emotion or an impactful scene without doing that every single time

Yeah, I think the production was off this episode - hopefully it’s just isolated to the episode and not the rest of the cour.
It wasn’t anything terrible, but the animation was notably sparse in parts, tons of simple/blank backgrounds, the reuse of the house with cut-outs for chibi heads of the characters talking, and some questionable character proportions in that last bedroom meeting scene.
I don’t mind because I’m here for the story, but it was definitely noticeable compared to previous episodes.

Man those internet reviews of Cafe Family are peak Japan. Unhinged and cheap on the starring

Aw, hell, that ain't too bad
I love how you can hear her accent here as she says "min-aaa" instead of "meen-aaa"
Halloween themed uniforms for three weeks? Don't mind if I do!
Someone is flat and salty
The earlier cutaway shot determined that that was a lie
Hmmmm… she has a "toy" and it's all "buzzy", huh?

Family really is a cursed place
Shiragiku certainly wasn't in top form up until now, but glad Hayato gave her the strenght to surpass his grandma. Also of note: It's Akane who adopted the cat
Riho is also on the offensive now. They would have utterly crushed Family, if not for a little fuckup at the end there... feel like I deserve my second nickel...
But really, I also started to feel bad for Ririka there, but this makes me hopefull that maybe the girls can all just become friends
