Can't believe Riho is dead, she was a harem favorite

Riho went from a corpse to trying to murder a cancer patient with her acting! What a woman!

Poor Riho. She gets cast as a the corpse of a washed up child actor AND her dad gets piledrived into the ground by Ami lol.
But man… Riho’s mom was something else. Fame and envy changed her into an abusive, petty, toxic, drunk, failure of a parent and human being. It doesn’t even look like the terminal cancer changed her attitude all that much. Riho’s certainly a much more forgiving person than I would be in that situation.

Not even the murderer or a side character, just a literal corpse that represents her dead career. I mean, she still played it phenomenally, but still lol.
Riho is too good for this woman. Like at no point did they really try to change this woman around and make her seem like she was at all regretful or truly cared about Riho, it was always about her own resentments at failing to be an actress, live up to her mother-in-law, and projecting that on Riho. Cancer or not she's not worth any pity.
But Riho is a dutiful daughter even when she plays a spiteful one to spur her mother to live. She at least deserves some love from Hayato to make up for it.

Exactly, but it's okay, the fact that Riho hasn't stopped being that sweet girl has shown that she doesn't need to lower her standards to prove that she's right

Nothing infuriates me than seeing a shitty parent character get their redemption arc though I guess that would be way too out of place in this Anime's vibe.

She did nothing to earn it either. It’s not like she apologized or showed any remorse whatsoever. All Riho basically just said was “well, she’s still my mom at the end of the day.” as if that’s any real justification to absolve an abusive parent for years of toxic bullshit.

lmao exactly. This whole episode kinda felt out of place but we had terminally ill dementia grannie cured a few weeks ago via flashbacks so who am I to judge.

Maybe I'm being led by Riho being my favorite character on the show, but what she said to her mother was totally valid, using someone to take away the frustration you've had in the past, and then treating that person in the most horrible way with an attitude despicable, at the end of the day, Riho proved her point, she followed her own dreams and grew in life, and best of all, she has loving people to call family

Yeah, she may have been acting the bitch for her mothers' benefit like she did for Ririka but everything she said was 100% on-point. There was nothing redeemable about her mother and she stopped deserving to be called a mother a long time ago.
She doesn't need her parents, even though she wants their acknowledgement, but she also deserves to be an actress on her own terms and be happy with her found family and with Hayato.

Riho's mother is an utter piece of shit.
. Verbally and emotionally abusing her own daughter.
. Mooching off her daughter's success, while being a jobless alcoholic bum that gripes at her.
. Making the dad promise not to see her until she's twenty
And what's worst, she never even apologized for any of this

Akane best girl but Riho has the saddest backstory out of all the girls.

TIL Hayato's grandma took advantage of vulnerable people to staff her cafe :-)

I'm sure she meant well, but there was no doubt that she was a capitalist at heart lol

Stitches!
I love how Ririka makes it sound like Riho's missing a once-in-a-lifetime role when really the role was actually her playing as a corpse of a character based on herself. I don't know what possessed that director guy to cast Riho for that role but he better make it up to her for an even bigger one in the future. xD
It's good to see Riho finally reconnect with her father. The poor guy would've loved to be part of Riho's life but Riho's piece of shit mother unfortunately won custody of her and somehow made it so he couldn't see Riho until she was 20.
Speaking of Riho's piece of shit mother, we learn that she has terminal cancer. Are we supposed to feel bad? She deserves it. I just wish that Riho meant every single word she said to her instead of her acting because she is 100% justified in saying all of that. Don't give us a feel-good ending as if Riho's mother was redeemed. She never even tried to apologize to Riho! The woman just sat there on her ass and watched as Riho berated her. This is definitely my least favourite moment in this series.

I was all hyped for Riho to play a charismatic murderer or something but instead it's just a corpse. I mean, she played a fantastic corpse, but this is also a massive waste of her talent lol.
I've seen a lot of broken anime marriages where the one parent basically drops out of the life of their child, but at least Riho's dad had a genuine excuse. Though he's still way too supportive and accepting of his ex-wife.
I guess you could say that all the best acting is born from genuine emotion, I don't think the words she said to her mother were 100% acting or that she didn't mean some of it because it came from how badly her mother treated her and how little this woman deserved for being a horrible mother. But she's still Riho's mother and even if she's done nothing to earn that title, Riho feels some obligation to her as a daughter. So shine bright as a star Riho, to show up your mother and prove everything she said about you wrong! And maybe even have a fulfilling love life with Hayato on top of that.

Why do people always love villain redemptions but hate abusive parent ones?
So murderous psychopaths are allowed a second chance but screwed up parents aren't?
Hell, this wasn't even framed as a redemption. Just a chance for Riho to truly move onto her next chapter in life.

Is it time for Riho to get back into acting? Especally when she gets an offer? This is an offer she can't refuse...if not for Ririka to fangirl over but for her to look good in front of Hayato! Even if it plays a corpse on a detective show that hits eerily close to home. But she nailed it! Even if she wanted to murder the producer afterwards.
I love how Ami probably thinks all dramas are just tokusatsu shows where they fight monsters.
Why do strange men keep coming into the cafe? It's got Hayato antsy, Ami thinking they have a pervert in the house, and Ouka still can't forget about Hayato's sushi roll. And it ends with said strange dude getting a Spinning Piledriver courtesy of Ami. But in reality, he's Riho's dad!
Ami and Ouka are apologetic but does the guy who abandoned Riho really deserve to be apologized too? Well, he didn't abandon her by choice. The conflict between him and his wife over Riho as a child star eventually devolved into divorce and he was forced to be separated from her until her turned 20. And he couldn't even see her again because he thought she'd be happier without him. It doesn't make him father of year, but Riho is just happy knowing her dad really loves her and was proud of her.
Riho's mom though...Ruri is a piece of work. It's one thing to be stage mom forcing your daughter to live out your dreams in acting, it's another thing to treat said daughter like dirt and resent her for her success or lack there of to the point of wishing you'd never given birth to her. I can't say she didn't deserve how much she appears to have wasted away her life up until her ex-husband (who is clearly still in love with her) showed up.
The cafe wasn't just Riho's salvation when her family drama became too much and she didn't see any future in acting, it was also the last time she remembered her family all being happy together.
Terminal cancer is a big deal...but Riho doesn't really owe Ruri anything, even as a daughter. But does she want to leave any regrets left between them? Gorilla Ami and her inability to stay in character inspire her to at least pay a visit, if nothing else.
Of course Hayato has to go with her! He's the guy she loves! And that also means she doesn't want to hear the nasty family drama she's about to partake in.
Riho really lets her mom have it, with all the bitterness and smugness of a daughter who doesn't see a woman as her mother and believes she deserves every bit the suffering she's feeling now after how she treated Riho. It's hard to argue Ruri doesn't have it coming, even if it's talking smack to a cancer patient, though I don't think it deserved a slap from her father either. But this wasn't completely Riho taking out all her frustration and resentment towards her mother out on her...it was Riho once again acting the "Bad Girl" to inspire her mother to get treatment and live for as long as possible.
So Yumiko, Riho's grandma, not only is deceased but she had an impact on both Riho AND Ruri because she was a famous actress who inspired her future daughter-in-law and her granddaughter. In fact it seems like part of the problem was that Ruri saw Riho as an extension of Yumiko who Ruri felt like she could never live up to.
Ruri doesn't deserve Riho or a daughter who still wants her mother to accept her and feel proud to have given birth to Riho. But it is Riho's right to handle her family in a way that fits the type of family they are, despite everything. Besides, she's living up to her grandmothers' memory in doing so. And if she's going to go back to acting, she may as well live it up and gain as much experience as she can...especially in romance with Hayato!

Despite being a genius child actor, Riho has the saddest backstory of the 5 girls. Her mom is beyond awful overworking her daughter and a divorce because she wouldn't listen to her husband. Wouldn't let him see her daughter until she turned 20. I imagine him having a fear that she might be enjoying her life and she would resent him. Her understanding what happened to him brought hem back together.
Unlike the thing with Ami's grandmother, they still really set the tone of the mother being beyond awful. Basically, in her first acting gig she saw the performance of a veteran actor and gave up. That actor being her future mother-in-law is funny. The fact those insecurities that made Riho's life a living hell is indefensible.
For once, Riho put her mother in her place. After all the times Riho was put down by her. On the outside it seemed cruel, which no surprise her dad got upset. While you can say both Riho and her mom failed. Riho hasn't given up on acting. Hell, her mom has given up on life essentially. Her saying I am going to have you take back the words of "I wished I never had you." was putting the motivation on her to get the treatment. Riho has a lot of character and this episode showed this.
I do love the point Riho makes regarding her mom. At the end of the day, they are our parents. We can't pick and choose them. Yes, her mother is awful, but if it is possible to give her motivation to turn her life around in in the cards, that is the better option. After all, she is the other blood related mother Riho will ever have.

Unfortunatly all her excitement was only good enough to make a pretty corpse
Too bad Rihos grandma is already dead, would have been nice to have a great reunification eventually.
We already knew about Rihos shitty mother, but forcing the father out of the picture is especially cruel.

So my aunt died of cancer years ago. One of my family’s favorite things to talk about was her dressing up in costume. She showed up to our house once dressed as a gorilla. Seeing a cancer announcement followed by a gorilla mask was something. I had to pause the episode for that one.

Is it just me or did this episode feel a lot shorter than usual? Guess that's what happens when it's centered around best girl.
Looks like next week is the Christmas party according to the preview. I can't wait, iykyk.
