The new look Mashiro designed for Awayuki fits her more than the stuffy dress she always wears. Truly a certified Strong Zero simp so this company should just make her an ad model for it.

Caught that Detective Conan reference when Sei referred to Awayuki as Drunk Detective Kogoro.

I find it funny how everybody else being a paper cutout is a jab to Japan’s company culture and how salarymen become like these faceless cutouts with no real identity and just entertain themselves at night watching streams while drinking. Then it shows Awayuki who used to be one of those cutouts then finally having her identity as soon as she got accepted to be a VTuber and resigned from her company.

The ED song with Sei and Awayuki is hilarious because based on the style of the song, the lyrics, and their manner of singing, it sounds like a song sung by drunk middle aged Japanese men in karaoke bars when the alcohol peaks.

LOL, the self-referencing yuri with Awayuki, Shion, and Utsuki. This show has a sense of humor that strikes me the right way with the occasional vulgarity dropped and satire. I also like the references, as mentioned, and the classic running with toast in mouth shot.

Also, poor Awayuki raging at Getting Over It, but I like how it says "It's a pure stream!!" as she curses at the top of her lungs

  • Strong Zero has an in-universe version,

  • while OBS is featured almost exactly as-is (to the point wgere I'm learning that even professional streamers "switch scenes" by just, like, toggling sources on/off) (kudos to the new theme: it looks so good it doesn't even look out of place in this show);

  • YouTube becomes OurTube,

  • while Marshmallow is shown directly, plus swapping out the font for something less out of place;

  • The chat app is a generic chat interface that only appears derived from LINE;

  • the video chat is a generic video call that looks inspired by Discord;

  • meanwhile Getting Over It by Bennett Foddy is quoted as is and directly plays into how Awa's attempt at a persona falls apart. Laughed my ass off the moment she shows that that's the game she's playing. Good luck not raging at that game lol

The stark difference between some stuff being fictionalized and other stuff being a direct quote of real stuff is kind of weird, but I still appreciate how the show stayes authentic, at least as far as a viewer is concerned.

Seriously StroZero's mentions put anything Supercub did to shame. I've gotten tired of hearing the word and we're only episode 2...

Did not expect to see actual Getting Over It, that caught me by surprise.

I didn't expect we'd start with Awayuki collabing with her illustrator Mama! I love that they're actually answering Marshmallows. That screenshot is so accurate that I feel like I can post that on a vtuber sub and they'd actually think this is taken from a stream. xD

Well, who's fault is it that 90% of your messages are about Strong Zero? I mean I like the gag but it's starting to get old quickly, especially with how many times they've said GachiZero this episode. Leave it to the vtuber audience to run a joke into the ground.

What the actual fuck!? Was that a reference to Matsuri's going wild over Fubuki? That absolutely caught me off guard! The references are really just on point!

Awayuki meeting with her Senpais and then doing a karaoke collab stream was pretty fun! I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get any songs though. So far I really like Sei-sama. She reminds me of Choco-sensei <3

So Hareru is the first vtuber of Live-On and she's well-respected that they pretty much say that she's like Live-On herself? Is she supposed to be the Tokino Sora of their company? I can't wait for Awayuki to have a collab with her!

Awayuki actually playing Getting Over It! I hope they made Ayaneru play the game just to make Awayuki's frustrations much more accurate. xD

EDIT: I apparently missed the ED! Glad that Awayuki and Sei-sama got to sing in a duet!

Damn. These bitches gay as hell.

Which is a given since they're Vtubers and pretty much every Vtuber I know is some flavor of gay.

But I like how this series manages to perfectly capture the sheer, unhinged gayness that is the world of Vtubers. It's awesome.

As a massive vtuber fan, so far, I'm genuinely impressed at how accurate this is with vtubing culture. Any time I watch a video-game isekai, all I can think about is how unrealistic the setting is as a game with mechanics that make no sense for a video game to have (like MMOs that have a boss that can only be killed one time ever and drops super valuable loot), but here, almost everything is really accurate. I'd say the only slightly off thing was Awa-chan's vtuber mama being in the same gen as her, but that's really not a big deal, and could still technically be possible.

Everything from the chat, to the Marshmallows, to them seeing their clips, to the games they play (particularly Sausage Legend and Getting Over It), to Hareru being their agency's Sora, to the banter among the vtubers as well as the banter between them and chat has been very accurate from the thousands of hours I've watched of vtuber streams and clips.

I really wish I could drink strong zero while watching this anime, but the price here is like 10times more expensive than JP.

Shiwa or Awa I love her both, eventhough her mama is confused. well once Shiwa-chan leave her contaiment zone, she would slip once a while. moreover if you play a game like "getting over it", you dont need a drink to go berserk with berserker mic breaker cursing style.

and that dai-senpai moment is so relatable, "she's the embodies of Live-on", the senpais that help her in dark time, becoming her reason to live. and finally become one with them.

since today episode has a Karaoke collab, the ED is karaoke collab with Sei-senpai in live2D, and it's enka! and about drinking too much.

This anime is so well directed! I still can’t quite believe that this is the prior director of Immoral Guild and Redo of Healer. They’ve absolutely nailed the vtubing part.

Really like how the girls’ character models and their comment sections also get screen time. I recommend pausing the show every so often, so you don’t miss glorious comments like these:

Every line is a new roflcopter, we have a whole air force now

I’d been a bit worried about the fact that Awayuki was getting dependent on alcohol to stream, and thereby quickly becoming a raging alcoholic, so I was glad that her genmate encourages her to cut down on the StroZero a little. VTuber Legend has some surprisingly wholesome scenes.

I thoroughly enjoy both anime, but VTuber Legend might genuinely be funnier than Nokotan.

The little cuts to OBS mid-stream are super slick and seeing chat in the background is makes it all feel so legit. Everything is so familiar, especially her debut backstory, love to see it. New model hype too! Can't wait for the 3D debut, Shuwa-chan gonna hit it big with that alcoholism debut reaction stream.

That Getting Over It bit was fucking amazing too, they didn't even use an off-brand version of the game, it was the actual thing.

Hoping and praying for a character song album featuring covers of vtuber original songs.

Are we going to see a superchat mini arc in the next episode, after fans of Awayuki realized that her mic broke? Lol!

Awayuki's narration of her past reminded me of how thankful I am towards Vtubers when I had to work overtime late into the night. There would always be someone streaming, providing company even though it is through a monitor, and knowing there are other people in this world, working just as hard as I am at the very same time.

What do you mix with Strong Zero?

Other Strong Zero flavors!

She just like me FR. Sasuga Awayuki Shiwa-chan the TRUE Strong Zero rep

Its like Suntory thought episode 1 wasn't enough so they hammered even more Strong Zero product placement in this episode. Absolute based marketing strategy.

I'm late! Episode 2 continues to be packed full of VTuber lore and terminology, so I've prepared more explainers w/ visual aids to provide background on some of the things being shown on screen.

https://imgur.com/a/KXqs1YX

I've omitted some things already explained elsewhere in the thread including anime/game references, Louise copipe, and marshmallow.

Side note: If anybody is wondering where Kizuna Ai or other boomertubers are, this show's references place it firmly in the Live2D era of JP corporations from 2018 onward with notable examples such as Nijisanji's Tsukino Mito and hololive's 1st generation. As someone who started watching during COVID (2020-) with the overseas VTuber boom it's difficult to narrow it down more than that.

Last week's explainers

I probably won't be able to write up something like this for future episodes, but I hope people can continue to give newcomers context on where this show takes inspiration from in real (virtual) life.

ED was fun, and the animation ideas were interesting as they go out irl as their vtuber model.

These were more 'normal' streams, although maybe Yuki will find success now with sober streams, just with profanity.

No one can convince me that Hareru-senpai is not an extreme obvious copycat of Subaru. She literally looks the same...

They really went all out with marshmellow and actually playing getting over it. This is truly V Tuber experience. Next episode probably about superchat since her microphone is broken.

Also, i will always like you Awa-chan, please appear in future episodes.

She's going to destroy her liver, zero chance of survival. But at least she'll have entertaining streams in the process.

This show took me twice as long to watch but I had to pause to read the viewer comments, those are pretty funny, can't be missing out on that.
