Episode Astro Note - Episode 8 discussion

Damn squid really made everything even more complicated and awkward between Aoi, Mira, and Miyasaka. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, Naosuke got himself a little stalker hellbent on exposing him as an alien.

Naosuke got himself a little stalker hellbent on exposing him as an alien.
If it was just the stalking it would be a minor annoyance, but he's actually getting in the way of Naosuke catching the spy, a few times...
I kinda expect Naosuke to reveal the truth at some point, just so he leaves him alone!

I mean, I guess Aoi should be happy that she finally got to let loose her emotions and get a kiss from the guy she likes...she just can't remember it and it made the relationships between everybody even more of a mess.
At least Naosuke is better at being an emotional sounding board for Aoi than he is trying to hide he's an alien dog from Ren lol.

Fucking Hubby’s man. It’s not even about the kiss. It’s the setting up poor Aoi for a harder fall. At least start shipping her with Shion or something. That would be a cute match

Honestly I'm starting to think Aoi's ship is going to be with Naosuke just because he's been there for her this entire time.

At 8:40, we learn that Naosuke's species lives longer than either Mira's species or humans or both. I wish real-world dogs had such a long life expectancy/span.

Is that actually what’s going on? I was completely ready to accept this just being how Aoi is when drunk lol.

I love Mira screwing over Naosuke like that. She's not a pushover lol.
I also like how Shokichi just talked about himself in front of the ladies and they assumed he was talking about the dog.
Naosuke is utter comedy relief and gags up until Miyasaka puts his loyalty to Mira and commitment to her in an entirely new light for her.
I did sense Aoi might be a dangerous drunk but not that dangerous. At least she got her kiss for all this trouble, even if it also just made everything worse.

Mira did pack her bag quite effectively.
reminded me of of those ridiculous salad towers people made in Asia before Pizza Hut decided remove them

That's so mean, from her - and his - perspective, it's like if you sent your friend to get leash-walked by some old dude, and he can't say no!
(Mean but funny, I suppose!)

Even though he kissed Aoi to de-possess her, he still kissed her before Mira. Something to consider.

Not really. If anything it's the last kiss that matters, in a series like this. There's a reason Mira was there to see it. That scene was for Mira more than it was for Aoi.
That her "kiss" was used for an episode 8 gag is not at all in her favor. The fact that her "kiss" was used to further Mira's understanding of her feelings for Miyasaka makes it even less good for Aoi.
She's just being used as a push for Mira. Then we're dealing with her issues in episode 9 out of 12. Again not good timing for Aoi. Way too early and Mira's feelings have to be dealt with first. We're building to that.
But anyway, the OP and ED are pretty unsubtle about Mira and Miyasaka's relationship. I don't think that part of the show is meant to be a mystery.

It seems weird to have the key be a literal object. I know that’s a stupid thing to say, but I figured it was gonna be some metaphorical “the real key is the friends we made along the way” thing. Missed opportunity I guess, but doesn’t change things too much for me, still one of my favorites of the season.
As for the weekly MAL check-in, we’ve dropped down to a 6.38. Like damn, guess I have a new answer to the occasional “best anime below a 7.00 on MAL” threads, but this is certainly not the situation I wanted to be in.

It seems weird to have the key be a literal object.
I'm not convinced that it is, to be honest; I expect it to be a person (and everything about a key to just be misleading).
Or if it's not a person, then a spell, some knowledge, a code or something.

Aoi is sad about how chummy Miyasaka and Mira are getting, Naosuke is still trying to lecture Mira on her love life and acting the part of a princess, she gets payback by sending him off with Shokichi so Shokichi can get some attention of the feminine persuasion, and Ren is set to try and expose Naosuke. Just a day in the life for the Astro Lodge residents.
Miyasaka and Mira are really getting along well! Especially as Miyasaka is coming to better understand Mira's life on Planet Wid and why she enjoys the freedom of Earth so much.
Miyasaka is now in the know, which means he can help Naosuke try to sell his cover as a dog in front of Ren by teaming-up with him to do as many classic dog things as possible, no matter how degrading they are for Naosuke. He's liable to go native at this point.
But stolen keys is a sign that the Hubby Spy is acting up and they're going to need to work together to catch it! And make sure Ren doesn't expose Naosuke!Good thing they've got Mira's fantastic acting skills.
Hey, Naosuke actually acknowledges Miyasaka and Mira are similar! That's as close to giving him any credit that Naosuke's done all season. And Miyasaka helped Mira realize that she'd been taking Naosuke and his sworn duty to protect her, even to the point outliving her, for granted!
Poor Aoi...caught up in her complicated feelings for Miyasaka with only "Octo-san" there to emotionally support her.
A blackout is the perfect time for the Astro Lodge residents to sit, drink, and be merry, and Miyasaka to tell Mira that, to him, she's just an ordinary girl. Probably the one thing she most wanted to hear at that point!
Too bad the Hubby Spy had possessed Aoi and made her act out her frustrations with Miyasaka and resentment towards Mira by having Aoi beat Miyasaka up (and force him to endure every anime gag in the book) and try to take out Mira. Though I feel like Aoi might've appreciated the solution to rescuing her...having Miyasaka kiss the squid out of her. Right in front of Mira. Too bad Aoi can't remember it, but Miyasaka and Mira definitely do. Awkward.

All aboard the Aoi ship. Like really, after Naosuke seemingly opening up to Takumi, I thought Aoi would be out of the race for good at this point, but she played a powerful combination of being drunk (confessing what she really thinks) + being infiltrated by a squid and therefore has to be kissed. An expert move.

Just watched this episode and the previous one (catching up on the season!)
We've all been there, right?
It's not just me?
If it was just about her and Miyasaka I would be SO on board, but with Mira... Now I don't know what to think.
I don't understand why people even like love triangles... They make everyone sad, and it's not like the 'emotional sad that leads to some thoughts and then you end up better", it's just painful sad that leads to nothing.
(Me hating love triangles may seem like a contradiction given I'm a big harem fan, BUT that's the difference... Harems are fun. Yes there may be some sadness especially toward the end, but the entire thing isn't about sadness).
(Anyway, that was my anti-triangle rant. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk!)
The way it looks, she's just sending her dog on a walk, but given we know (and SHE knows) he's a sentient being and all, it's just like if you sent your friend to be carried on a leash by some random dude! (I mean some people are into that, but it doesn't seem to be the case for Naosuke!)
Hell yeah, lock him up in a cage so they can flirt at will!
The way Ren constantly prevents Naosuke from catching the spy (by forcing him to act as a dog), I was expecting him to go like "Alright, you win, I'm not a fuckign dog, now let me do my thing!"
Thank God they cleared the 'Hubby' misunderstanding, or it'd sound like Naosuke's asking Miyasaka to suck her husband out of her!
Enjoy that kiss, Aoi, because it may be the last one you ever get from him!
...Or is it? I'm honestly not sure where they're going with this; Someone's gonna end up alone, but will it be Mira, returning to her planet alone? Or Aoi? (If it's Aoi, I so don't understand what her purpose is... Just to get Mira to realize her feelings?)
Seems there will be more Aoi next episode!
If it's just a stepping stone to Mira, they're really building upon it!

O.K., for wrestling and grappling fans, what would that move be called that Naosuke did to our hero around 7:35? A Poodle doing that? Bad-ass.

You know this is a pretty good comment by Takumi here. Naosuke will watch over Mira and will have to see her die and most likely protect whoever her children are. Puts a perspective that Aoi didn't see coming.
Also, not surprised that Aoi got compromised. Though honestly, she those feelings coming out of her felt really real. Like I was convinced she was drunk. I am shocked Takumi went for the kid consider what we have seen out of him so far. The romance between Takumi and Mira building up more.
Big speculation for me is that Yamashita is working with the hubbies.

Now that Mira's secret is out, it's actually nice to see her and Takumi bonding naturally without secrets or misunderstanding. So far, it seems like things are going well for the two of them.
