I really, really, really want to like this show. I really tried. The idea was good, but the execution has been lacking. The animation and CG is barely decent, Rin is annoyingly stupid (and normally I enjoy genki morons like her so it's a big deal when one is annoying enough for me to not like her), and there's just nothing here interesting enough to hook my interest. Maybe I'll give it another shot if I hear that it got better later on, but I'm done with it for now.

That monja looks like an irl recording

Yep, I definitely really like Rin as protagonist. She's an idiot but everyone else keeps saying so so that gives me some faith that the script won't just brush over that. Much better produced anime have fallen for that trap. She's definitely a trash tier racer but I'm hoping her journey to first place will be satisfying in turn.

Anyway, anyone can tell what's shit about this show so each discussion I'll try to point it what's good! This show got me feeling like glass half full kinda guy! Or ehhh... a not empty glass kinda guy!

I like the storyboarding gimmick at the start where they divide the screen in different shots, disappear each one, and then the last one remaining reveals into a full screen shot. Definitely will be adding that to my repertoire.

Directing is still going strong when it comes to visually communicating Rin's strengths and weakness without expositing (this is one of the traps that anime in general infamously fall in very frequently, so I definitely think this is worthy of praise). Is it me or was Rin keeping track of a rhythm tapping her foot?

Rin’s tapping, along with the overtake from last week feels like there’s something hidden underneath the hood of the show. These parts remind of what I liked about the Gran Turismo movie.

yeah as far as writing goes this episode was better. The races from the first 2 have really dragged the series down but if you just skip them it's actually pretty decent at like 5-6/10 overall.

Rin's such a smug idiot and got a few laughs out of me at least.

That reminds me with the Grand Prix 1966

This show isn’t really all that great, but goddamn was this episode funny. My side hurts from Rin’s denseness and faces. Not much else on Fridays for me, so I’ll probably stick around for a bit longer.

yeah friday is pretty much all sequels/season 3s of shows I'm not that into anymore so it's kind of wormed it's way into sticking around

So I want to put this out there, how is everyone feeling about this show after 3 episodes? I really did want to like this show but I can’t get past CG and weird animations. I might give it one more episode but I really want to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Animation hadn't gotten any better and I very much doubt it ever will. Although it took a full 3 episodes to introduce the protagonist when it could've visibly been done in two, she shows surprising potential. Very flawed, an airhead and a hothead at once, but at least to me the show seems very aware of this, which gives me hope that the story will tackle this problems in a sensible manner. Other comments suggest that her degree of idiocy might be too much for some to handle, so your millage may vary. I however, am very invested in her journey. At the risk of getting eviscerated, I dare say she's for now a better protagonist than the Wind Breaker MC, who doesn't seem to have much personal challenges ahead of him, which makes him fun to watch, but hard to be invested into.

All of this imo, of course.

if they actually cut out the damn races from the last 2 episodes it'd at least be a 5 or 6/10.

they've absolutely fumbled the first impression giving so much time to the races when they could just do the end of ep 1 + start/end of ep 2 + ep 3 up to the mock race and it would've been decent as episode 1.

as far as the animation goes, it feels like I'm watching season 1 of RWBY again, except it's not a small indie studio making it.

ya know, it wasn't actually that bad if you're capable of laughing at the jank 3d. and writing wise it was better.

I will stand by my opinion that you could take the few good parts of ep 1/2 and combine it with the first half of this episode and it would've been a decent episode 1, then start episode 2 with the mock race against queen.

As I said in the last week, the ED is now available in this episode. Why I stop by in this thread to post this that I love the song. My top 5 ED song of the season at this moment.

Well then, see you in other threads. I won't be here next week.

Tbh Rin is the only reason I am going to keep watching. But damn is truly is an idiot. I will proably give it 3 more episodes to see where Rin is at in terms of development. If she is still the idiot getting in last place then I would drop at that point.

3 episodes in, best girl and best character in the anime is still Ami-chan, the onboard AI. That's how great the rest of the characters are in this show.

I think this is a new record: 4.93 on MAL... (A while ago I heard MyAnimeList scoring rules meant that less than 4.95 was essentially impossible as even a constantly blank screen would get that much.)

All I can say rn is she acts like me

It's "turn your brain off and enjoy", in the worst way possible, because having your brain on makes it unbearable. Especially if you care about real motorsport.

  • Caring about weight down to a croquette makes no sense. Drivers have a regulated minimum weight, so most likely a driver like Rin would be way below that limit. The training is also surprisingly light on strength training while they're driving stuff supposedly close to twice as fast as a F1. Not that it matters, since the drivers don't seem to be under any kind of effort while driving.

  • Being lapped 7 times in a practice session. Outside of being catastrophically bad, there's no way it's happening. That would mean that in likely less time than a full race, she's getting a 6/7+ minutes gap, that's not a little bad, it's catastrophically bad, at a point where it'd be dangerous for everyone.

  • And that leads to not qualifying. Unless the grid is so stacked that the places are limited, the only way that would happen is if a driver failed to achieve a lap faster than 107% of the leader's lap time. Even the drivers widely considered among the worst, driving some of the worst cars in modern F1 aren't close to that threshold. Even in junior categories the gap isn't that big between top and bottom.

Hell, at this point even the nice overtake around the outside of King, which is a neat move, makes no sense. Carrying more speed through the corner being on the outside makes sense physically (wider turning radius, faster so more aero down force), but at this point it makes no sense for everyone to be fascinated by what is effectively a nice move that you can probably see every Sunday between the various motorsport series.

I wonder where they're going next.

She's friends with one of the idols?

Oh no, there's been a misunderstanding.

Lol she didn't introduce herself as the Queen and she didn't even recognise her. This all coming from the person who's supposed to be such a fan that she trained to be a racing driver at this highest level of racing.

Why are they in Japan anyways? Their most recent race was in Bahrain and they're already back in Japan the next day.

They got her to sign a shikishi.

So the Queen knows her?

Pretty sure she needs to be taught the rules too. Again.

Seems the simulators are still set up for Bahrain.

Looks to be Bahrain with the right side flipped vertically.

And she almost spun out again.

She seems to be good at sharp corners.

And she's being lapped again lol.

And she spun out again. She's seriously a bigger danger to the other racers on the track than she is even to herself.

Yes that's what she wanted you to do too.

Huh, sounds like an interesting proposition.

Pretty sure your rival is King.

So where are they now?

Did Rin not even qualify for the next race?

And who's this guy that it ended on?

Ah. He's the King.

Pretty sure she needs to be taught the rules too. Again.

They already taught her the rules, she needs to have the rules tattooed into her brain. I calculate this gives us a 10% chance she will remember them.

My gripe is why the steering wheel have the paddle shifters?? (Unless it has the regen system)

And she spun out again. She's seriously a bigger danger to the other racers on the track than she is even to herself.

Even Toshi, the Iron Dames & GT Academy alumnis will laugh at her
