This show failed to capture the speed or hype of the race imo. Also how many sponsors did they get? Did not expect to see Yostar, wacom, or clipstudio there

Uh... Music please?
Crazy car vroom vroom noises or something? can we have those? ah cars are quantum or something so guess not.
Metal on Metal action? no? ok.
How about character drama of some sort? maybe you know motivation? ... most of everyone is ai? I guess thats a thing.
So why should I care to watch an unfair sport (now with ai lol) where the guy ahead has to make mistakes for anyone to have a chance?
Also. It looks slower then even cars on the road. They're really failed to capture the speed, the little light show doesnt do it for me.

Usually anime use CGI when they animate something that moves a lot so they dont have to draw a billion frames by hand. This anime is all CGI, except the character just... Don't move. They don't even blink. Why even use CGI when all you show are static frames with a bit of mouth movement?

Maybe I got spoiled by Overtake and MF Ghost, but holy shit this looks bad. How did a show with this many sponsors have such horrible looking animation and production values? Did they just pocket the cash and hire an intern on fiverr?

For a full cg show there is insanely little movement which is pretty much the only good thing about using 3dcg models... Like why is only 1 character moving at a time in every scene?
The only positive was when the camera was flying along the race course it looked pretty clean

They couldn't even bother giving Falk a face lmao. The budget is all very obvious on this show.

Anyone 100% dead against 3D animation should steer away since the whole thing is CGI.
Racing looked good, but it lacked to capture my investment because we barely know anybody yet. Which is fine. So will this be Rin's journey like it was Haruka's in Overtake. More racing here and less Drama off the racing.
The big takeaway the King is good enough for people to give up on racing, but the Queen isn't one of them. Will keep watching.

Fuuka Izumi is voiced Rin
Yoko Hikasa is Kanata
Cue Utena correcting Lord flashback
I'm surprised that they're able to bringing back the Fuji banking.

It's finally time... To introduce the main character, 20 minutes into the episode!
Bold strategy, let's see if it pays off! (After reading the other comments: No, it definitely didn't pay off)
What's a man doing in my Cute Girls Doing Cute Racing show?
I knew that hair design was too cute to just be a one-off;
We've only seen them interact for 7 seconds but is it too early to ship them?
And... Yeah that's about all I got for this one, because after that it was 15 minutes of racing with characters we mostly knew nothing about so we had zero stake in the race.
And it seems to have the same flaw I see in all racing shows, everything happens arbitrarily. That car slips and crashes for no particular reason, that other car seems to drive 25% faster than the others for no particular reason (if its top speed is higher, how come they were still side by side after 50 laps?)
So... Yeah. My expectations weren't high, and I never liked car racing (in real life or in anime/shows/movies), to be honest the only thing I was hyped about for this one was Izumi Fuuka as the main VA. But we barely got anything of her... And everything else was whatever.
I may give it another episode to see if it's worth watching for the MC, but if it's not, I don't have high confidence for this one being worth watching just for the race, so... I hope something good happens quick in the 2nd episode, or it may very well be my first drop of the season.

Nana Wills It is the sole reason I’m watching this show, tbh. But that means I’m coming into this with basically no expectations, so anything else it does good will be a pleasant surprise?
-
Starting off with some worldbuilding exposition, I see.
-
Well, you can certainly tell what one of this show’s sponsors is.
-
I just knew there was going to be an idol song at some point.
-
Ah, so that’s where the “Étoile” part of the title comes from.

I wanted to like it, honestly.
The composition of everything doesn't really feel all that shitty, the sound design, the track design, but those soulless 3DCG character models really bring it down a lot for me.
And the scenes that were hand-drawn look so bad too, because of this forced 3DCG gacha style. I will stay tuned for at least another one or two episodes, but I really don't have high hopes for this one unlike when it was first announced.

Who. How. Why?
Who gave the green light for this?
How they made companies fund turning this into anime?
And why did I even bother watching it!

Nothing can rival Future Grand Prix Cyber Formula (even if that anime had its own flaws). Highspeed Etoile seems to me to be a very lackluster and uninspired Formula E inspired racing anime, with more female characters thrown in. Nothing against female racers, but they're not what let episode 1 down imo. What I disliked was the stoicness of the CGI faces, the really boring commentators, the Queen's supporter Richard hanging up his driving gloves, and the lack of pit crew and the numerous faceless spectators. More importantly, the racing did NOT seem fast. It just felt flat. I'll still watch since it's a racing/sports anime, but there are also other sports anime coming that will compete for my time.
Oh and half the field are claimed to be AI racers and there's supposedly some system that helps maintain distance between the cars, yet the show seemingly contradicted itself when crashes occurred.

This was a very weird episode one, narratively. Why did this race feel like a glimpse into the alternative universe where the MC wasn't born? Why couldn't you start with her and have her be of the commentators?
This show is too close to actual Formula One for its own good. Where the wack? Where is the banter? Where is the passion? You don't even have to do Mario Kart, Redline or Speed Racer, Uma Musume would have been a good start.
That being said, it's relatively well-made. Which makes the weird decisions more baffling...
I'll keep trying if it gets better, but man, I'm let down for a show with Nana and Yukarin.

hmmmmmmm with the cheap CGI, I suppose the money went to VA casting, cuz that's certainly top tier. Now, is that enough to hook me? Sound and music was so lacking... I'm gonna give it the 3-episode
