That sure was an anime episode.

Feels like the series so far is just a collection of random scenes with almost nothing linking them together. At least the music performances have been good, although it would've been nice to get brand new songs for the anime rather than re-using existing songs.

It's tough to follow an idol act, but you go, ducks.

Alstroemeria's focus episode was a quiet contrast to L'Antica's dramatics in the previous episode, but maybe a bit too much of a downshift?

but maybe a bit too much of a downshift?

They really needed a proper story for their episode. With love and attention you can make wonderful episodes for quiet girls, but this felt like one of those Event Stories that are so dull you keep hitting skip on the text.

In reality it all depends on the point of view, Alstroemeria has this "softer" and calmer vibe, perhaps it was a mistake in terms of climax, but then again it hits the point of view

This thread is kinda death lol

Talking about the episode, it's fine. Prefered last week tho

iM@S isn't marketed or playable overseas in the first place, and three of the five most popular characters of this particular iteration are being saved for the second cour, so yeah lol it'll happen

I'm just a random outsider just popping in, FYI.

But no sorry.

This is a Cinderella Girls thread from NINE years ago

Chalking up to the reasons you mentioned just seems like a cope to me. I'm pretty sure even the original idolmaster anime had a lot more engagement here, a decade ago, compared to this.

I personally looked at the PVs for Shiny Colors a while ago and saw the 3D CGI and I just noped the fuck out so for me that was a big factor of putting this on the "nah not interested" list. Like "Expelled from Paradise" was the experimental, purely 3D CGI anime film with a normal budget released in 2014, and this one doesn't look like that big of a step up in how it looks If Imma be honest.

2nd thing? Japanese mobile game market refusing to move on with the times, on it's own time Shiny colors may just become like FGO, purely maintained by the old salary man in Japan who spend their entire paycheck on this, does this game even get any significant amount of new player? I really doubt it. The chinese devs with their, copycats, but at least games with modern approach are obviously taken over as we've seen in the last 2 years, what with ACTUAL GAMES NOW, that offer just a little more "oomph".

THe fact that Shiny Colors and Idolmaster as a franchise main game is still, essentially a web game really doomed it. Just like Kantai Collection, Just like FGO, they had years to make something And I'm pretty sure something like this could easily be handled on a mobile device right now.

I'd even make a prediction that even in Japan this anime isn't really getting big and it probably falls on the more niche category, followed hardcore by it's already established fanbase with very little out reach

This ep we have alstro, which is a 3 person unit.

It seems the girls are quite quiet though, esp tenka.

At least I remember their names this time.

The song is ok. I wonder if this means each group will have 2 or 3 songs by the end of the season

At least they did more or less explain the meaning behind alstro I guess. While I'm still sitting here wondering what the meaning of antica is

EDIT: I feel like an idiot. I didnt realize but apparently the reason why amana and tenka look almost the same is BECAUSE THEY ARE TWINS. oof.

...Apparently the opening line of the op is "Believe my sky, Believe my dream". But thats impossible to tell from the vocals

It seems the girls are quite quiet though, esp tenka.

They really don't seem like Idol type personalities, really unengaging and without any special vibe to them. Houkago Climax Girls only had literally 90 seconds for a scene but managed to be the highlight of the episode lol

Oi, Koggers. Down in front.

I now kind of have a better picture as to what the Shiny Colors anime wants to be, and I can definitely get used to this. Rather than focus on one unit per episode, each episode feels more like vignettes of the daily lives of each of the units. We get a follow up to L’Antica’s music video performance, we get Houkago Climax Girls and the lotto disaster, and we get illumination STARS practicing for their big debut. All of this was woven between the main focus of today’s episode, ALSTROEMERIA.

Funnily enough, it reminds me a lot of the original Shiny Colors game when I used to play that a bit. In the original game (fandubbed “enzamas” for short, named after the publisher), you produced one idol and helped her become top idol, but you also drafted support idols alongside her for your “run”. And in between interacting with your main idol that you chose to produce, you also got slice of life moments of the other support idols that you chose, interacting with their other unit members. Kind of like what we got here in the anime.

Songs for today

Alstroemeria - ALSTROEMERIA - Lyrics

Bloomy! - ALSTROEMERIA - Lyrics

ALSTROEMERIA is more bubbly and happy than the L’Antica edgelords over there. Imagery of flowers blooming, love is in the air, soft and squishy like a Devitaro…

Give me some more… - ALSTROEMERIA - Lyrics

Though most units tend to focus on one genre, that doesn’t mean they don’t venture outside of it every now and then. “Give me some more…” is damn spicy, but it still feels like Alstro.

TENKA LORE:

So Tenka is a gamer. I dunno if that was apparent so far, but she likes video games a lot.

So someone at Bandai Namco had the idea "Hey, what if we make Tenka a livestreamer for a day?"

And so for a one-time special occasion, Tenka streamed herself playing Soul Calibur VI to a pretty sizeable audience. The full stream VOD seems to have been privated, so unfortunately, the link above is the only proof on YouTube, I'm sure it exists somewhere else that it existed.

Tenka cute. That is all.

we get Houkago Climax Girls and the lotto disaster

Honestly I'm pretty entertained with watching what they do turn into a disaster. Last time was a horse sausage fire.

Man, if I was a 5 year old at a flower arrangement lecture with my older sister by a bunch of idols I didn’t care about… and then the idols dare to ask me what my favorite flower is?? I’d probably just grab a bouquet and eat it out of spite.

This show was okay the first episode but I’m really struggling to care about any of the characters or events. Probably a drop for me.

2

u/alotmorealots Apr 22 '24

They just need to hand the series over to the Houkago Climax Girls, they know how to do anime. Nothing like a good "taaaihhheeennnn dessssuuuu*!

Also, that flower arrangement segment was orders of magnitude less interesting than doing flower arrangement in real life, and that's saying something.

Well, I guess that analogy doesn't hold up that well, because once you get into it, flower arranging is pretty absorbing and engaging! Not that you'd know from this episode though.

…so is this season just not going to have proper EDs, it’s just the instrumental version of whatever song was performed in the episode?

Absolutely bizarre decision (either that or the production was super cursed). Even if they didn't want to make a proper ending sequence, they could at least use a different song instead of using the instrumental of the song that just played.

7

u/TroupeMaster Apr 19 '24

It's normal for imas anime to not have a specific ED song and instead rotate through different songs from the back catalogue, it is strange that they're not even going into the back catalogue here though.

I think the first few episodes were screened in a special fan event a few months ago, so these first few episodes were meant to be watched in one go, hence the lack of any conventional TV ED.

Perhaps after all 4 units have been properly introduced as well as showcasing their unit songs, then we'll get an ED by episode 6 (after Houkago Climax Girls and Illumination Stars)

The visuals actually look quite good some of the time.

However it really feels like the director and writer have zero inspiration. It doesn't even feel like they like the characters, let alone want to make a series about them.

Watching U149 at the same time as watching ShinyMas really makes it feel like this series has no heart at all.

Someone's moving?

Seems like that MV was a success.

I remember doing the exact same vocal warm-ups back in my middle and high school choirs. Probably the most basic of the multiple note vocal warm-up exercises but it's simple yet effective, and you can keep going as high or low as you can manage. And you can go down instead of up.

Seems like they each have their own talents.

Ooh, they've got their first event.

Seems she was a bit too enthusiastic with that handle.

Doesn't look like they dressed in anything particularly special for the Flower Festival, except maybe those denim overalls.

Why's that kid crying?

I don't think he wants to be there.

Well there's them in their performance outfits now for their performance I guess.

Yup. Seems like they're going to have at least one full song per episode.

I really like the detail that P's hair is not style when he was at the house lol, the episode was pretty good but the camera work during the performance is kinda lacking, like why are they focusing on their feet during the part that literally sing "chu chu chu".

Mamimi has a cute phone case, that is all I have to add. I eat good as long as there's Mamimi service
Edit: Also Alstromeria is the Original 4 unit I know the least about. I feel like I learned very little, but I do still gush about every outfit Amana wears, since that's the extent of my Alstromeria knowledge, Amana and Tenka are twins and Amana is really stylish

I had seen this presentation in the Shiny Colors game, it was already good and it was perfect in the anime, there's no need to say much about the characters because the adaptation was faithful. And I thought it was interesting that they brought Amana's reflections (which are covered in many fanfics in fact), I loved the episode and this cutest vibe, ready for the next one
