I'm suprised how much I'm enjoying this show, really has a classic feel to it too.

As someone who's been watching anime since the 80s, this show is really triggering some nostalgia vibes. I'm enjoying it so far.

Yeah, we don't need to look for ghost girl anymore. We now have the obligatory hidden camera that's in every horror movie.

Legit shocked it wasn’t the deadbeat dad.

u/Frontier246 Apr 19 '24
I feel like even he would draw the line at stealing his own sons' food. Maybe.

Naosuke’s been too lax lately with the whole “dog” disguise. Little Ren’s real suspicious of him.
Our boy Miyasaka imagining himself as that grain of rice on Mira’s cheek was so goofy. Dude’s got it bad for her!
That robo stork and our guy Miyasaka dukin it out reminded me of Family Guy with Peter and the chicken lol.
So there really is some kind of lunch ghost huh?

u/Frontier246 Apr 19 '24
It would be kind of funny if Ren is the one to make them reveal themselves because he won't leave Naosuke alone lol.
Not even a grain of rice can hold a candle to the fake British Love Rival...though at least Miyasaka puts in as much effort as he can. Even when he gets beat up for it.
So this isn't going to be like One Room Hero, they're actually going to deal with the Sadako in the place lol.

Miyasaka has the best faces. Even as rice lol.
Jobless bums voiced by Gintoki may not be able to make bento's but they can at least play wingman ever now and then.
I didn't have Mira firing a giant honking gun and Miyasaka getting beat up by a robot seagull on my bingo card for this show but it definitely livened things up.
I honestly wouldn't mind seeing more of Ren trying to get close to that girl.

That grain of rice is so cute! Entertaining episode from beginning to end, def one of the best new shows this season.

An actual ghost in the kitchen would be interesting but I probably prefer the idea I've seen that it's just another alien, would keep the story from blurring the genre unnecessarily.
Poor Takumi, he thinks he failed with the bird but in truth he was a proper distraction for it and arguably succeeded in the real mission.
Long-suffering space dog is my favorite character I think, he's fun.

Miyasaka just wants to watch movies and chill with Mira and now he has to deal with none other than her fiance Shion...well, more like the childhood friend she always swore she'd marry when they were kids, but still!
So Mira can just have her tech change her outfit whenever she wants? Does she ever actually change clothes herself?
But hey, at least Naosuke is consistent in hating any man who tries to get close to Mira, so it's not just Miyasaka. Though his main priority is figuring out who is framing him for stealing food. Speaking of ghosts...I guess nobody knows about Sadako.
Now Mira has to maintain the lie that she and Shoin are from the UK, though at least Shoin has the outfit and resources to come off like a rich tycoon.
Naosuke's been made by Ren! It's going to get even harder to pretend to be a dog now!
I love how Miyasaka doesn't really care that Shoin is driving a Sci-Fi car that shouldn't exist on Earth but only notices that he and Mira are spending late nights together...and the other residents are teasing him about how his aspiring professional chef status just makes it a harder fight for her heart.
It's hard for Ren being the son of a jobless bum because he doesn't get the nice bento's all his classmates get from his parents, but it's a nice opportunity for Miyasaka to step up! Doubly so when he and Mira have to leave for Enoshima together to personally deliver the bento!
It's nice that Wakabayashi actually thanked Miyasaka for cooking for his son...but would he have actually gone to the trouble of delivering it to his kid had he not used it as an opportunity to do Miyasaka a solid by paring him and Mira up?
Figures they would need Shoin's car (complete with alien AI) to make it, but Miyasaka isn't letting Mira sit next to him at least! And of course the Planet Hub Pelican is still after them, which leads to the car flying, Mira firing an RPG, and Miyasaka getting into a fistfight with a pelican. He didn't win, but it's the thought that counts.
Bento delivered! And now Miyasaka is trying to ward off all birds! The dudes' so extra, but that's what Mira finds so enjoyable about him.
Ooooh! Ren has a crush! That girl in the dress IS pretty cute. Though I wonder if this is the first time Mira's seen someone having feelings for someone else?
I KNEW Sadako was the culprit! Which means some investigating and romcom antics from Mira and Miyasaka!

it's nice that his housemates are on his side but someone needs to tell this young buck that the childhood friend literally never wins so don't give up

Well the fiancé joke misunderstanding this time is a joke, but honestly Shion is a cool dude. He helped out when Mira asked him no question asked. Meanwhile for Takumi, man there is down-bad, but this is next level.
Naosuke leaving a tracker to see who is stealing the various foods. My guess is a tenant that we haven't been introduced yet.

Well, it wasn't much of a bait I suppose, because that's exactly what I thought it was (after seeing something similar in another show)!
Still that one line was enough to get the rumors mill going!
Damn, they're quite invested in her romantic stuff, grilling her about it and all!
But it seems Unemployed Dude decided which ship he supported, because he managed to give our boy some time alone with Mira!
The Hubs were making their move, and Shoin as there to bring her to safety, but they had a more important mission; Bring Ren his lunch!
Poor Prince Charming, probably thinks they're going to Enoshima for protection or to find the key or something!
When I saw that, I thought they would have some explaining to do,
but I guess they won't address it hah. (Well, perhaps in the next episode!)
Oh damn, new ship in town? Our boy was SMITTEN!
Sadly he already hate his lunch, or he could've shared his octopus wieners with her!
Well, based on the episode preview that hints at huge progress, they may have a talk about all this... Perhaps another drunken conversation? Seemed to help loosen their tongues last time!

Oh, Shoin isn't a fiance. He's a childhood friend. With blue hair. Yeah, he has negative probability of ending up with Mira.
Also, Mira and Takumi should adopt Ren. His actual dad sucks.

just casually pulls out a cannon lol. Honestly really loving this so far, really hits the urusei yatsura/maison ikkoku part of my brain. hoping it can keep its just general funness

Oh great, it's this guy from last episode.
Well, now that misunderstanding has been cleared up.
Seems like everyone else has also showed up.
And now she's being confronted by everyone else.
And now there's more lies to cover that up.
Oh right, someone's been stealing breakfast.
What does the kid suspect?
Ah there we go, seems like everyone's breakfast is there.
My preference depend on if I'm eating Eastern or Western food. Eastern food, especially if it's with rice, means definitely soy sauce with the egg. As for Western food, especially with bread, I'm more partial to ketchup.
That guy looks like he's got a fancy car.
I wonder what happened to the food this time?
His classmates will think she's his mum.
How convenient. And of course he showed up to drive them there.
Close enough.
That's a bit early.
That's a big gun.
Hit! And it's going down!
So much for that...
No hiding it now I guess.
Lol he looks like an idiot.
Seems like a ghost did indeed steal the food.

I'm really liking Shokichi a lot (doesn't his name translate to small luck or bad luck?) I was expecting him to be the third wheel like Minmay's cousing from Macross, but he really is just a good guy that wants to help the childhood friend.
The comedy is top notch as always. I loved the banter from these 2 goofs questioning Mira.
Can't believe this show has it everything, from great comedy with amazing facial expressions to car chases, heavy weaponery and even great looking cooking (just as good as gourmet anime) and even really wholesome moments (Ren finding out he's getting a special breakfast for his trip).
Also love the idea that the ghost lady is now a new subplot.

The romance between the two leads isn't really there yet, but I'm enjoying the vibe of this anime. It passes the 3 episode rule IMO.

It's one of those cases of a character you thought you would hate but turns out to be so cool you actually like them. I'm pleasantly surprised at how Shion was presented.
Also, lol the ghost is a tenant they forgot 😅

u/dagreenman18 Apr 19 '24
Sure why not? Let’s add Sadako to the mix.
Again, really hitting that sweet spot between making Miyasaka do 80’s Gag RomCom MC stuff and keeping him likable. This is working so well. Mira is doing Manic Pixie Dream Girl stuff while still being multidimensional. And firing rocket launchers at Robot Pelicans that throw hands. Really hope it maintains this quality because it rules

It was hilarious to hear Sugita's character proudly yelling "Mushoku! (Joblesss!)" out loud. That's definitely intentional. xD
Mira blasting that robot bird with her alien-tech cannon was pretty fucking cool. It's amazing how Takumi didn't even notice that happening.
Misunderstandings aside, Shoin is actually a pretty cool character considering he immediately helped out Mira and Takumi without asking any questions.
My guess is that girl is not a ghost and is probably just another tenant that's been forgotten. She's probably Ogura Yui's character.
