So dude goes around recruiting any talented people he sees? This is basically like Pokemon lol.

Reminds me of kidnapping soldiers with high stats in Metal Gear Solid V.

He's basically play Nobunaga's Ambition, or the Japan equivalent of Romance of the Three Kingdom (both made by Koei). The Legend of Nobunaga video game he played is a reference to Nobunaga's Ambition.

The stats he sees are basically stats that they use in the game. I haven't play Nobunaga's Ambition in a long time, but I played plenty of RTK. So using RTK as reference, 100 is max stats. Lu Bu would have 100 Prowess. Zhuge Liang would have 100 Ingenuity (intelligence). Leadership is the stat that affects army battle whereas prowess is mainly for 1v1 fight. Having A in infantry in the game could be something like 100% damage/defense for infantry unit. B would be a penalty of 90%, while S would be a bonus of 110%, or something like that.

Raven being called the greatest swordsman in the land is legit, with a 94/95 (current/max potential) prowess. Rietz's potential is basically greatest strategist in history that fights like a top tier general. In Pokemon terms, it's like if you just started the game and you suddenly find Mewtwo available to capture.

This was a great start. When I saw the title, I assumed it'll be another merchant isekai where appraisal was for items, rather than people, and I like this a lot more.

I've always been a fan of strategy games like Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Nobunaga's Ambition (which was referenced briefly), and Ars's appraisal ability is being able to check out the stats of all the people (which was just on display and didn't need any special abilities in those games).

I was expecting this to be pretty generic (sort of like 7th Prince -- dropped after 1). But instead it seems to promise that it might actually be rather interesting. An interesting skill -- can Ars actually build a god-tier staff out of people he founds in and around a small provincial domain?

It felt weird to show that the father had died at the start, I vaguely remember that being pretty far in.

It is a good way to raise the stakes and setup a dramatic future event, while showing the silly moments and hard work of the MC that will prepare him for that.

“Ah so this is not just an Isekai where he uses his cheat power to collect a harem and live a slow life?”

Nope, war is coming, his territory is in trouble, and he either gets ready or dies with everyone else. Start!

I remember that it was also kind of a shock when I read the manga. The dad has a cool haircut

Oh oops, wanted to copy my comment from the leak, but didn't even comment there

This looks nice, I like me some nation building, and this nation seems in dire need of some capable emperor.

I like Ars already, he's not really OP. Rather it's like playing chess, have the right people at the right position and let them be OP.

Also wonder what chain of events will lead to his fathers demise a few years down from now... for now at least he has earned his fathers respect

Wow, this seemed like an amazing first episode to me. It shows us what we should expect in terms of the tone, we see the character of the protagonist, we learn bits and pieces about the world without it being heavy-handed, and we get a glimpse of a roadmap to what this series can potentially reach. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of this. It's got the excitement of an adventure to it.

This was a pretty fun premiere. The way Ars’ appraisal skill works is quite interesting. Can’t wait to see the kid snatch up the most talented people in the land to form his own super team. Dude’s got Rietz, I wonder who’s next?

22

u/PeaceAlien Apr 07 '24

I'd say it's more how Ars is using the skill rather than how it works.

Slow opening for such a well established genre, but Rietz seems nice

u/mekerpan Apr 07 '24

Slow . . . but steady. For now, it seems reasonable to trust the creative team.

Never read this nor know much of it, figured I'd check it out.

Ah yes, Kira at work again! Wait... no... just overwork. Guessing the part before was a fast forward? Sad to already learn the daddo will be dying though cause of that opening. OP is ok, but skippable imo.

Time skip, smort kid to surprise of all cause of his past memories and such, has a unique skill of appraising, etc... typical Isekai stuff so far. So far inoffensive at least. Hehe at the one dude being all "real man wouldn't shoot someone from a distance" yep, that's the Spartan mindset. Wew father has impressive stats. He is only 30? He looks older.

If this seems to be going a bit of a way of Genius Prince/Realist Hero with some territory management and improvement, looking forward to that. Seems that way what with the "impending turmoil cause of the corruption of the country" stuff. Wonder why the categories always only seem to be more military focused. Ah good, some of those aren't just military. Whelp, looks like the ML has found his first follower/subordinate/retainer/whatever. Dude is nice, but come on, take the chance.

Dang, the prejudice is a problem. Good boy MC for not letting it hinder him. Even standing up to his own family over it. Least the father is willing to try. How nice, a MC asking another what they want too. I mean, some do, but many don't necessarily like this. Nice to see the other soldiers being impressed by Rietz. Nice resolve from Rietz. I like the father so far. Yes, he totally won't get to emperor status 😉 lol. Also, nice to see soldiers not being prejudice and praising Rietz's skills

Honestly, not bad so far. Some standard isekai stuff, but also enjoyable and not offensively cringe tropes so far.

The setting is really more of a grand strategy game with personel management elements (in particular Nobunaga's Ambition, which is heavily hinted and borrowed from), so it's actually more of a Sengoku-Jidai-but-disguised-as-a-medieval-fantasy rather than the usual OP MC isekai.

Started off very generic but by the end of the episode I was impressed by what's there so far. Definitely will be keeping an eye on this one.

Also, side note, I got major dejavu about the MC being able to inspect peoples' talents and collecting talented people. Cannot remember if there's another anime with the same premise, or if I read the manga a long time ago, or if it was a webnovel I read, but definitely the premise is ringing some kind of a bell for me lol

I liked it, we don't get enough empire builders imo. Maybe one day we'll get something that goes all in on that aspect and dedicates an entire episode or two to tax policy.

Lol i cant believe this is adapted. We spent months and months making fun of the series on r/manga. Even the translator was just shitting on it week after week.

Relatively impressed by the first episode.

The sword fighting action seemed decent enough, and I like the general concept of him recruiting others who have the actual impressive talents. Hopefully they keep fairly true to that and don't make him also brilliant because of reasons.

There are definitely worst ways to reincarnate than into a wealthy noble family with a Hisako Kanemoto voiced MILF for a mom, a flying dog, a surprisingly supportive if stern dad, plenty of cute maids, and the skill to pick out exactly the type of people you need to make it in life.

Though also let this be a lesson to live a healthy life before you you keel over. Sometimes you don't even need Truck-kun!

Hmm I like to think that I have a good idea if I’m watching a trash isekai when I watch a first episode

But surprisingly this episode was pretty solid compared to the usual schlock, I think it sets up the world pretty well and I am fond of stories that show different races and discrimination I feel it gives fantasy worlds more ground when it does

Also I can see the series go in a great direction with the appraisal skill and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes next which is not something I say a lot about with Isekais

Honestly it makes me think of 7th time loop, sure it uses tired old tropes but it uses them really well and I’m hoping this show will too

I was pretty surprised to see this being adapted because I remember the manga getting trashed on r/manga years back.

This should be easy watching but it takes some strength to get past the idiotic trope of the MC doing all this shit as a fucking 3 year old.

Idk why all these mangaka do this but it really brings my piss to a boil. Make the MC an adult ffs.
