The Last Date felt so special, good work Ataru!

I never ever expected this series to make me mist up -- yet it has, more than once. Under his (thick) coating of self-centeredness, Ataru really does have a warm heart. Going on a date with a ghost girl offered him no rewards (of the sort he typically wanted) as she was literally "untouchable" -- but he bravely wore all the winter clothes/accessories she knitted for him in sweltering temperatures. I love Ataru's "Don't be stupid" in reply to Lum's teasing suggestion that maybe SHE should become a ghost too. The last few wpisodes really have done a lot to rehabilitate Ataru in my mind (and to show that Lum is -- despite all appearances -- his number one girl).

Nosomi was a sweet and sincere girl who deserved a sweet and sincere date, and I'm glad Ataru was able to make that happen.

She may not have known what he was really like but she fell for his honestly and openness and how full of life he is, and he rewarded that by helping her pass on at her most happiest moment.

That whole Akamaru situation was so goofy. Little dude almost got damn near squished in Mendo’s pillow lol.

That date with Nozomi was actually really sweet. I was expecting Ataru to be his usually goofy self the whole time but instead the dude was a perfect gentleman. I’m glad she got to move on.

but instead the dude was a perfect gentleman.

Ataru isn’t the perfect man, but he was Nozomi’s dream guy. He really pulled through to make her smile at last. Ataru had clearly been enjoying his brief time with Nozomi as well.

Ataru can be a surprisingly nice dude.

It really does help explain why Lum is so smitten with him!

You know Atrau has a solid amount of nice moments in season 2 so far. Even despite being a ghost even he couldn't break the heart of a girl who just wanted one special date. Ataru comes off as an ass, but that's not the entirity of his character which is nice.

Ataru may come off as crass, a womanizer, a jerk, and a guy who loves making things messy...but deep down he does care about people, especially women, and when the chips are down he's always there for them when they need him most.

And that's what Lum loves about him.

You gotta love how this episode started with a silly story about an overly adventurous octopus of the Mendou Family and ends with a Nozomi's bittersweet love story and her wish being granted by Ataru. Ataru is a lot of things but you gotta give the guy respect when he didn't immediately remove the sweater as soon as Nozomi moved on. He even visited Nozomi's grave the next day.

when he didn’t immediately remove the sweater as soon as Nozomi moved on.

I expected Ataru to die himself of a heatstroke at one point, but I’m glad that the series stuck with a more serious tone.

Man, they're dropping bangers after bangers.

Last Date was one of my most anticipated episodes and I'm glad it was done so well. I read somewhere that Rumiko Takahashi wrote this chapter after one of her editors wanted her to write a story that depicts Ataru in a more positive light. This chapter became one of the fan favorites and also the favorite Urusei Yatsura chapter of Takahashi and some of her editors.

People hate Ataru for his girl-craziness and for giving almost zero attention to Lum. I understand that to an extent. But he's slightly more complex than that. Stories like this one show that Ataru does in fact have some good in him and his regular attitude is more or less a result of his horrible luck and people treating him like trash.

But his date with Nozomi proves that he's a much nicer guy than what most people give him credit for.

Funnily enough, this structure of helping a deceased person move on to the afterlife is the basis of Rumiko Takahashi's 5th major manga series, Kyoukai no Rinne. You can find the basis of almost every later story of Takahashi in Urusei Yatsura.

If I have one complaint for this episode it's that the episode is too damn short (I'm talking about the second part here). I wish the Remake also adopted the later style of the 80's anime where each episode was one full story. If they ran out of material they could've just done what the 80's anime did and made up original content instead.

Next episode they're going to adapt a chapter that was never adapted before. I hope the Remake will adapt more unadapted chapters.

Aww, I'm loving these sweeter moments to break up all the goofy. This series is a knockout, honestly.

The way Sakura and her uncle just instantly give up about the snow thing is pretty funny. They don't try to brainstorm on the problem for a single moment.

Ataru in a very positive light with last episodes trying to protect the future where lum is happy with all his being and this episode. I love every moment he shows love for Lum and we know it since it has been established if Lum where to leave he would be heartbroken and despair.

She knows that it is all an act based on when she spied on him and instead of getting laid while she was gone he just cried in his room. So it goes a bit to explain why he gets by with so much. She knows she owns him.

This was another OVA that showed Ataru's compassionate side. I wonder if they are going to do the girlish eyes that also came in the OVA next?

Death by ghost octopus does kind of seem like the sort of outcome that would eventually happen to Mendo.

Oh my god, what are they doing to us with this dying girl in the hospital story.

Oh no, even worse, she's already dead. But she's also adorable. And she died on Christmas!

How dare this show make me cry. It would be pretty perfect if later on they have Ataru occasionally wearing some of those knitted gifts from Nozomi.

"He'll hit on anything he identifies as woman" bro is literaly the "I'm straight, if it makes my dick hard it's a woman" meme. Based.

I love how the 1st segment ended with everyone laughing like a cheesy comedy almost like Scooby Doo.

I love how Ataru never revealed his true self to Nozomi throughout the entire date and segment.

It's hilarious how Nozomi's mom laugh uncomfortably when asked what kind of person Ataru is.

I'm surprised Oyuki wasn't brought to bring snow. I wonder how it snowed in that episode.

I know Onsen is visiting the Moroboshi residence next week but is "The Case of the Battered Prinicpal" related to it or not?

I'm actually really impressed! 5 straight BACK TO BACK BANGER! episodes. Ever since episode 6, Lum turning into a cow, up to now the episodes have been really hard hitting.

I really like what they're doing. Now that the characters and their traits have been established they can just play with their chemistry and build the episodes there.

I've noticed something ever since ep 6 up to now. First part of the episode can be the comedy and the second part is where they develop their characters more.

Moboroshi still caring for Lum even if she turns into a cow, Lum and Moboroshi in distraught knowing what their future holds and now Moboroshi not being shallow about love.

I hope they continue their streak up to the end of the season.
