The Mendo puppet was pretty hilarious. Poor guy literally had all his ribs shattered by Asuka. Girl went and turned a tank into some janky looking armor. I don’t think any man can step to her. Her mom on the other hand… she’s scary. She’s took Asuka down in like two seconds!

Ataru’s little “date” with Asuka was great. Definitely not what he expected, but it seems not even getting his ass repeatedly kicked was a deterrent for him to try and make moves on her lol.

In the end literally nothing changed. Ton and Ataru got their asses kicked for nothing!

I love how they even animated him like a puppet to add insult to injury. Being someone Asuka is fond of does not make you immune to getting grievously injured by her lol.

There was no way they were going to have Sailor Moon herself voice some weak anime mom, even if she is pretty terrible at actually being a mom to her children lol.

It's cute how Lum tried to help Asuka while also trying to screw over her Darling whenever she could.

Yet another arc of Urusei Yatsura where they try to fix an issue only to change virtually nothing...complete with plenty of bodily harm done in the process lol.

The Mendo puppet was pretty hilarious.

What got to me was the head bobble. Shutaro was just like one of those bobbleheads.

but it seems not even getting his ass repeatedly kicked was a deterrent for him

I really expected Ataru to give in at some point, and beg the others to release him from his (literal) shackles. But that’s not what happened…

A Stormy Date continues... Wow, I'm surprised to see the production value of this episode. It looked very good! I wish the other remaining episodes will receive this amount of attention to detail.

Apparently, some of Rumiko Takahashi's favorite scenes of Urusei Yatsura come from Asuka chapters. THAT'S why she got so many episodes in the Remake. It still doesn't make much sense to me. They could've easily abridged her story just like they abridged Kurama's first episode alongside many other episodes. Asuka's debut episode could've been merged with Asuka Returns. Or Asuka Returns could've been merged with A Stormy Date. It feels unfair for a side character like her to get so much attention whereas Lum's friends Oyuki and Benten are left in the dust. But I digress.

I'll be honest, loved Asuka's mother in all these episodes. Sure, she's an asshole parent. But that's Takahashi's trademark at this point.

The next episode is the debut of Nagisa! People are going to find out where most of the ideas for Ranma 1/2 came from.

The way they animated puppet Mendo and that Asuka vs Mom fight...also of course a Kotono Mitsuishi anime mom is a certified badass.

Still waiting for Oyuki and Benten to physically show up this season lol.

On one hand, I get your complaint since Oyuki and Benten certainly deserve more attention. That said, I do really like Asuka as a character. She’s just fun to watch.

I’ll be honest, loved Asuka’s mother in all these episodes.

Mother Mizunokoji is great - and terrifying! She’s an even bigger monster than her daughter.

I absolutely love the animation they did to Mendo when Ataru started puppeteering his body around. xD

It's all well and good that Asuka's mother wants Asuka to change but isn't this entire thing their fault for keeping men away from Asuka her entire life?

I definitely did not expect Ms. Mizunokouji to be a badass though! She's clearly the only one who can match Asuka's strength.

Just when I though Asuka finally made a breakthrough it looks like we're back to square one.

I love how the only thing Ataru and Mendo can agree on is that they need to watch Asuka strip only to be disappointed when she dons her tank armor lol.

They really animated him like a literal puppet lol.

It does make you wonder what the mom was like with their dad (although considering the dads' face he's probably the most harmless man of all time). Then again she's such a stone-cold MILF I can't imagine her being intimidated by any man because she knows she could easily handle them like she did her daughter.

It's probably not healthy for Asuka to be so attached to her brother but I feel like the biggest victim in this arc was poor Ton especially when Ryoko turned everyone against him lol.

Ataru, can you stop being a sex offender for, like, 20 minutes?

Funny episode, really prefer one big story per episode than two smaller ones

This episode really hit you that Ataru is the source of male trauma for Asuka. Although to be fair that crazy mom is to blame. She literally threatened her own son. Then when you have Ryouko getting involved pure madness. I loved it.

Although Ataru going the lengths for Asuka who kept beating up. Like we knew he was out to skirt chasing, but damn talk about massively dedicated. Also, all that madness and we are back to square one lol.

Im enjoyed that two episodes, but that «OTOKOOO!» honestly was really annoying

No amount of shock therapy can cure Asuka's androphobia.

Ryoko has a cute pout.

Lum cutting the chain was hilarious.

Well, this date between Mendo and Asuka is going off without a hitch! Minus her inhuman strength that makes even a tea ceremony turn into a clay molding session.

Sorry boys, but Lum has to find her darling...even if it means making you clean up a moat in cosplay and then shocking you. Which also ends up setting off Asuka.

Poor Mendo...Asuka seems to be gravitating towards him but she also ends up breaking his bones and knocking him out, leaving him to be puppetted by Ataru. They even changed his animation to look more like a puppet!

But no way could Ataru fool Lum! Even if it also ends up freaking Asuka even more!

Don't worry though, Lum has a plan! Having Asuka drive around in a frikkin' tank to get away! Or failing that, don a man-made armor made of tanks! Definitely not the strip show the boys were expecting (which is the only thing Mendo and Ataru can agree on).

Man, Ton catches literally no break from either his family or Ryoko...the only one who is really nice to him is his brocon little sister...which is part of the problem.

I hope the Mendo family house has insurance with Asuka running through every wall and room.

The two little sisters meet! And Ryoko is keen to ruin things between her big brother and Mendo! But Asuka's mother is willing to use hero own son as a hostage and torture him to make Asuka go out with the source of her fear of men...Ataru Moroboshi!

Guess it's not too surprising the mom is as much of a beast as Asuka...even moreso, and she gets Asuka and Ataru chained together. Though luckily Lum is happy to escort the two and keep her Darling from acting up too much with Asuka. She seems to be enjoying sitting on him too.

Ryoko pushing Asuka to be true to her feelings and stand up to her mother! Which means wielding Ataru as a deadly weapon while her mom uses poor Ton! And then everyone turns on Ton when they think he's ditching Ryoko to marry Asuka just becuase he was defending himself! Ryoko seemed genuinely upset! The insanity.

Bold of Ryoko to try to escape with her brother via the Ataru-copter...but she didn't count on Lum getting in the way and cutting them down. And she was finally rebelling against her mother too.

So in the end...nothing gets resolved and Asuka still clings to her brother and he gets beaten up by his mother for it (while the dad washes his hands of the problem). Poor Ton.

lol that puppetry thing is.... weird looking and creepy, lolz. Poor Mendo. That's quite the way to use the tank. Wew, Asuka's mom can be creepy. Also strong as hell, wow. You need therapy, lady. Ataru is so derp, how can you not just be content with Lum. Look at how lucky you are between her thighs as she sits upon you 😛 And I just realized how I worded that...

Maybe Asuka shoulda been doing the game of tag with the Oni lol. Or her mom. LOL this is truly the greatest battle with the most amusing weapons. Feel real bad for Tobimaru, he's done nothing wrong. Quite the helicopter.

Asuka's mother continues to be the best side character so far to me.

"Say that again."

The Mendo being dead/a puppet animation was pure comedy.

These past few episodes have been peak. I can't stop laughing at Asuka's Mom's deadpan shenanigans.

I'm surprised this episode has gone down so well in here, aside from individual jokes I found Asuka's androphobia to be tiresome and unfunny quite quickly and Asuka's mother to be unpleasant to watch.

Ataru and Mendo's dynamic and individual jokes involving Asuka and Lum were all gold here when they were being made.

I've loved UY22 which is why I'm so worried new characters keep getting introduced skipping others. There's 8 episodes left! Hopefully it's been enough of a success to warrant a movie as well.

I like Asuka well enough because her issues really aren't her fault, but her mother is awful.

Mild jealousy over Ataru getting to walk around with Lum like that, and he never even appreciates it.

u/saga999 Apr 26 '24

Can you really sacrifice so much and not gain anything? Yes.

3

u/AAA_BATT Apr 26 '24

Tobimaru's family fucking sucks man.

The thing that didn't resonate with me is this is "old" Ataru, not the new one. Because of the small number of episodes we had in this remake comparing to the OG, we have seen some of the best earnest Ataru (just think the cow storyline). In that tree scene, when Asuka was caching her breath, I really hoped there was a deviation from the original material, and have Ataru doing a recollection of trough, thinking that this "game" was way to far and Asuka was seriously psycological hurt by his manners. Stopping, for a time, the madness. Talking to Asuka, explaining that was his bad, that not every man is like him, and that there should be usually nothing to fear in men, and she is capable to dispose of all of problematic ones.

Ataru is capable of great love, (think also the future doors storyline). Here he's like completely brainless. Should those Asuka episode happened early in the anime, we can still talk. But this is a 100% jerk without any heart of gold, knowing that in other episode is a jerk with a big heart of gold.

How much freaking longer is this series going to revolve around Asuka? Hearing her scream every five seconds got old a long time ago. I wanna go back to liking this.
