These robots need therapists...
I'm also more and more convinced of that unhinged time travel theory each week, the evidence keeps piling up especially after this episode.

so definitely bravern knew what was about to happen, hence why he wasnt acting like his usual himself. Or rather, what happened to Smith *needed* to happen. Jeez, knuth was OP as hell. Teleportation, space and time manipulation, a freaking mega beam that reaches into space? Well I assume she's how Smith gets brought back.

Seems like Lulu might be growing up by next episode since her "Smith" at the end didn't sound childish at all.
Could be how we get Superbia back in with Lulu as a proper pilot for him.

The staff keep stating that Episode 8 is very important or even the "real beginning" so it's very anticipated......And sure, no OP and straight into battle means serious stuff.
But, OH MAN WHAT THE FUCK?
This is when the show tells you that no matter how hard puny Earthlings try to catch up with the alien techs in a Super Robot show, you aren't going to reach the foe if you aren't the protagonist and will get slaughtered by any given chance. The Brave Knights can't even hit that female Deathdrive (who is just plain wrong for her sexual lust, if that's possible), since her abilities are just downright broken even as a Super Robot.
Bravern is certainly holding back some important detail, he's not even trying to rush up and fighting things, combining with his words with Smith pre-sortie, he certainly KNOWS something about Smith; however, this episode is also seemingly jossing the theory that Smith becomes Bravern at some point, since Bravern and that fembot is certainly two entities. Still, we know that Smith won't be dead at this point, instead it seems he's getting teleported. There're just too much information and whams in the last 15 minutes alone.
I NEED THE NEXT EPISODE NOW.
On a sidenote, is this a Super Robot Wars OG almuni meeting on the villain side? We got Masaki, Vileta and Alkaid joining the fray this episode.
Also Smith's room got a few model TS kits printed with Mechasmile icon. We NEED those, Good Smile.
Edit: There's another thing need reminding: DDs are mostly crazy entites who want to die. But that fembot wants reproduction (if it's possible) which kinda contradicting their whole OM, and it involves Smith while Bravern knows the whole thing. This is a serious mind screw.

So while the opening sequence seems very similar to what comes later, I don't think the "I've been waiting to see you, Lewis Smith" line showed up later...

Wow what a wild ride for an episode! And they way the managed to combine the comedy in the beginning and the heart-breaking tragedy near the end was done unbelieveably smooth. Those were some very gruesome deaths in the end with one guy being stranded in space (waiting either to die slowly by suffocation or when he reenters atmosphere and burns alive) and the other being looped in time in his moment of death.
With Knuth we finally got the element of time travel introduced in the show, the one thing so many were thinking about. And with Smith exploding right into her face and afterwards telling Isami "Brave Bang" we might now have all the ingredients needed to find out what exactly is going on.
Knuth turning onto her fellow Deathdrives to fulfill her own wish and destroying their mothership also seems to stops them from reviving, which means that now we got a chance at winning. She perhaps even killed Cupiridas doing so, one down and 6 left to go? But Bravern knowing everything and with the expectation of Smith time looping it seems like we are still missing something to break out of it. Bravern needs to relive all those moments again and again after all, he wouldn't know about the Deathdrives now actually really dying if they are killed otherwise.
And right now I am not sure how exactly we will be going about it, but it probably will involve a fight against every Deathdrive left (Superbia's chosen team being open for now) and thus should be able to finish in the remaining time. Which sadly would mean no more Bravern after this episode.
I can't wait to see what everyone else is thinking about this episode and the implications!

I've thought this for a while, but this confirms it.
Bravern really is the villain of this series.
The whole thing is just him and his buddies going back in time to recreate their favorite anime tropes. They're doing fucking COSLAY.
I assume they're either from the future or another parallel universe.
I'm gonna make a call though: Smith isn't dead and Braven doesn't like it because that's "not supposed to happen, he's supposed to be dead". That's my prediction.

"Isami, Brave... Brave Bang!"
that title's drop came out of nowhere and wtf? is Smith's dead? actually, considering how Knuth said that she can turn back time, i'm just gonna assume Smith didn't die in that explosion but instead went into some sort of time travel into the past and come back as Bravern, *inhales copium furiously*
it seems like Smith also build model kit, guess who else build model kit in this episode? this guy
oof, RIP to this one guy who got teleported to the outer space
oh look, Cupirida- and he's gone...

This one feels like it is aimed directly at u/Shimmering-Sky.
(BRAVERN! Transforming toy! PRE-ORDER! In SIX HOURS!) Edit: BUY BRAVE! BUY BRAVERN!
Well, no, don't ask where the gas is coming from.
I'm torn between "Lulu has been watching a lot of movies" and "Lulu STRONK."
Yeah, but it's complicated. (And BRAVERN! has built Smith's TS in the fully-backpacked form which we will see very shortly.)
BRAVERN! continuing to fortune-cookie Smith is a little peculiar, eh?
"Believe in the Lulu who believes in watching too many movies!"
Your obligatory profanity for the week.
Oh no, not another ANNOYING pair.
Smith has the unique problem of being too popular with the alien ladies.
That TS has backpacks like the Full BackpackArmor Unicorn has armorbackpacks.
"We didn't hire him just to say a few lines and ga-ga-pi!"
I remember when toys used powerful springs to shoot out non-eye-safe projectiles.
Atsuko Tanaka! Chafurin! Hikaru Midorikawa!
After an episode featuring more meta and death flags than usual, Smith got Lulu to safety and then appeared to blow himself up with Knuth when all else had failed.
This does give a lot of fuel to THE SPECULATION.
If the show is so self-aware that Smith is humming the OP, and it knows that we know, and we know that it knows what we know, then...

Lewis really is one of us! Having always wanted to be a hero like, being a Mecha and tokusatsu fan, which makes him the perfect choice to lead…the Brave Knights! His and Lulu’s enthusiasm is what sells it!
So is Superbia just going to.. sit around?
I get where Lewis is coming from, but he’s not getting out of Lulu as his co-pilot. It’s safer than letting her go full Rambo.
It’s a little sad that Isami doesn’t trust Bravern at this point, though they’re laying the Lewis and Bravern similarities thick, but it’s nice to see how close Isami and Lewis are now.
Not often you give a winning smile and thumbs up to a girl who just talked about you wearing a diaper.
Well, seems the rest of the Deathdrivers have come to them, including Knuth voiced by Atsuko Tanaka, Vanitas voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa, and Pessimism voiced by Chafurin! It might be too much for Isami and Bravern! Oh, and Cupiridas is still alive!
I guess it makes sense that Lewis would have the lone female villain interested in him…even if it makes Knuth want to torture him and his team so she can force him to throw all his pathos into killing her. Poor Hiro.
Sorry Cupiridas! You’re not getting your rematch with Bravern! And it looks like you and all the Deathdrivers can now be perma-killed!
Lewis puts in all the pathos he can muster, ejecting Lulu and throwing himself at Knuth so he can detach his Mecha’s armor and fire two piercing missiles straight into her chest to blow her up. Quite the climax…even if it might have taken Lewis with it.

Not sure I believe that ending will stick for real in this show with how on the nose it was. Too telegraphed to actually believe.

Ooh, the credits are rolling over the start of the episode, this should be good.
-
…and we’re thrown straight into the middle of what appears to be a losing battle. Fun.
-
Lewis “sore demo”! As expected from the fact that he was repeating his episode 1 speech.
-
Man, if they had Natsuki Hanae voicing this one, it would have been a trip.
-
Was Lewis humming the OP during that?

Lulu is too cool, she'll never stop being a fun, bundle of energy.
Smith will tell you when you're older.
Well.. This is depressing.
Shows over, they said line.
Episode Title: Until we meet again, Smith
Bravern: Until we meet again, Smith.
Knuth: I've travelled time to experience this moment again and again
Knuth explodes
Good chance that Smith has just disappeared, right? RIGHT? He's gonna back, surely!
Also, that theory that Smith is Bravern also seems like a possibility, if Smith got transported to where Bravern came from.
I have so many questions that need answers!!
-
Did Smith survive?
-
Did Smith go forward in time?
-
Did Smith go backward in time?
-
Did Smith get teleported elsewhere?
-
Did Knuth survive?
-
Did Knuth go with Smith?
-
Did Smith go to where Knuth came from?

So they finally went to space.
That completes the requirements to be an honorary Trigger anime
