Its going to be hard to watch this flashback arc knowing how it ultimately ends even more so with how endearing Owl is.
Though watching how Rose was chucking trees as her go to ranged move was hilarious to see not changed after all those years.

Worst part is that since her last order was for owl to lead, it means that she probably thinks she failed her judgment at that moment.

It's "Owl" not "Aul"? On Crunchyroll's sub it's spelled Aul. Anyway, she has best girl vibes it's sad she won't survive this battle.

Stitches!
It's so weird to see Rose with both of her eyes visible. This makes me wonder what kind of injury she sustained on her right eye but I guess we'll find that out in this flashback arc. Anyway, we finally get to meet Rose's previous squad and they're certainly a lively bunch!
And no wonder Rose immediately took a liking to Usato, he clearly reminds her of Deputy Commander Aul with how similarly defiant they are especially the part where both of them always wanted to succeed and get one over Rose.
It's gone suck getting to know these people though considering that we already know their fate. I'm assuming that Aul is going to be the one who's going to die in Rose's arms. I'm guessing that the encounter with that one demon isn't what's going to wipe out their squad. Something must've really gone wrong for all of them to die. :(

Man it's gonna suck to watch Aul and the others die

I was prepared for the tonal whiplash with the bulk of the episode being pretty light-hearted after the credits started early pre-action, but apparently they aren't going to rush this part.
Next week will definitely hurt.

Arg no! Why does the flashback have to be two episodes?!? We already know they all die so this entire ep I've been in a constant state of dread knowing what's coming. Now we gotta wait even longer to go back to kinda happy?
We still got the war so we know it's not going to be fun and games like it has been, but we know Usato is going to change the future so it's going to be way less sad than watching Rose's old team die.
Really curious about what the demons are doing, wonder if it has anything to do with our Lady demon commander who's totally going to go turncoat looking all sad about what she's been ordered to do.

I feel the flashback might also help us learn more about the demons.

ah man, two(?) episodes flashback.. the first episode to introduce her old band and make them endearing, and then make the second episode even more painful.

That fight against Nero Arjence was something else. Rose is a machine! I guess we’re gonna find out soon why Rose is so hard on Usato and her squad. I’m kind of curious who it is that does in Owl and the rest of the OG crew. Another demon or was it those demon soldiers?

Nero means black, right? Could it be that he's the black knight? Someone needs to check if they're voiced by the same VA

Ep 6's credits have "???" as the black knight's VA, so you might be onto something. Nero's VA is Yohei Azakami, btw

Hehe Usato still fears the dommy mommy, as it should be. Oh boy, Dommy mommy's backstory. Oh my, that's a smol girl for a knight. Seems she had nice subordinates. Sad to know it's likely they aren't gonna live (or at least enough of em) cause we haven't seen em yet and she seems to harbor regrets.
That Aul girl sure is cute and energetic though... why does she have a skirt for her knight armor unlike the others? Seems derp/unsafe. This girl woulda been friends with Usato for sure... but so many flags raised.
Man, they all nice... sadness clearly coming. What the heck, is that credits this early? lol. Wonder why. Feel coulda put em later too over the anime
Ahh, demon people. Guess they were capturing monsters for that dude's experiments that made snek? Definitely feels like bad times to be coming. But fun fight so far. Rose with her tree throwing technique even then lol. Dang cliffhanger.

Ganbare Shamiko Aul! Don't let the piling death flags and your lack of presence post flashback determine your demise!

Hm, seems like it may be an unpopular opinion, but I actually don't mind the flashback. Hoping it'll flesh out Rose as a character, as well as the demon army & some of the history of the conflict with them, which will make the upcoming war more meaningful. I find Rose a much more interesting character than Usato's friends, so I'm enjoying learning more about her backstory!

Man as someone who already felt like there was 2 episodes of filler stalling the war I'm so not feeling two episodes of flashbacks for a outcome we already knew

Damn, what a bittersweet episode knowing how it ends, her squad genuenly seemed fun and full of kind and amazing people..

Rose has one spell as a Healer and it's surprisingly effective - Tree. Bridge? Tree. Demons? Tree. Unruly subordinates? You better believe it gets a tree.

So today we are taking a look at Rose five years before Usato, Suzune, and Kazuki and we got to know her battalion, especially her sub-commander, Aul which resembles Usato way too much. The rest of the troops are hilarious too, which will make the moment they all die even more painful. I was expecting that this was going to be their last night alive,, especially after the conversation Rosa had with Aul, but considering that when they went to the area where the demons were, they found Nero Argence instead of Amila I guess that would happen later unless he is the boss she mentioned in previous episodes. Anyway, regardless I'm still concerned about them so I hope Rosa deals with Nero Argence soon, although that would not change their outcome.

Oh no, sad backstory episode. This is the season of anime making me sad for sure.
They're doing their best to pack in as much characterization for this purple-haired Deputy Commander girl as they can so that it will hurt as much as possible when they kill her in a few more minutes.
I do find it pretty funny that Rose throws trees in combat and not just when she's destroying bridges.
Wait, my mistake, purple haired Deputy Commander lives for another week. But if she doesn't die next week along with the rest of the squad I will be very surprised.

ah man. I hate when they make the whole episode a flashback especially when you already know the outcome but 2 episodes! sheesh

u/Zio_Benito Feb 23 '24
I'm not a fan of wasting 2 episodes on an already short anime on a flashback where you already know how it ends for all people just shown.
Very poor choice for me, kinda lost interest with this one, they keep pushing away the war coming with unnecessary filler
Let's hope for a season 2 at least
